Formula 1 - 2012 Season

I guess in 20 years the older people who are more likely to be offended will be dead by then but until that time I do think it should be actively discouraged.

Swearing still offends a lot of people, not swearing offends nobody. Stick to the stuff that isn't going to get people's knickers in a twist especially on live tv.

I'm not sure grading of curses will work either as I believe some words are considered much worse in certain countries than in others. The F word generally offends here, the C word would actually shock many older people. Words like shit and bollocks are slowly becoming almost fine to use in everyday language (you'll never hear them on the BBC before 9 at night though).

Sponsors aren't happy when their people are seen swearing either. Vettel has probably had a quiet word in his ear from them, and when money is on the line you'd not be surprised at how angelic they can all act.

Sponsors are mostly idiots though. They still believe that if you have some boring, thirtheen a dozen famous person saying a obviously scripted line that its going to sell the more products. It doesnt.

People relate to individuals, not some corperate fool. Now obviously that doesn't mean it's OK to curse etc but lets say a Mark Webber, who isn't afraid to speak his mind, will probably help you more in selling than some guy who just says the ''right'' thing.

I'm not so sure - Hamilton isn't exactly mr personality but I bet he's getting paid a lot more from sponsors than Webber is. :p

I think the average person still relates to who is "best" or more likely...who is on TV most. I guess that will depend on country as well but Hamilton for example is probably known by everybody in the UK, while only sports fans will know who Webber is.

Saying a swear-word in a contextual sentence like Kimi and Seb did is not the same as cursing out someone else.

We'll never have interesting discourse if everyone maintains the right to never be offended, especially by inconsequential snippets like what Kimi and Seb said.

Just as a matter of interest - do other countries have a watershed or what? What kinds of swear words would you hear in the afternoon for example?

Brits are known to be a bit more hung up on these things but I was under the impression that most countries still had some kind of rules in place.

Pretty much anything goes, of course it's not encouraged, but we don't censor anything by ourselves in Finland

So, you broadcast porn movies at midday there? I mean, for your children?! Not a surprise, if Raiokennen comes from there, that is shame for your country.

No, I assumed the question was related just to language censorhip like it looked to be.

edit:
And for clarification, no, we don't broadcast shows with swearing on purpose midday, but for example if there are some in an interview, song, whatever, it is there and stays there, it won't be censored.

finland seems to ban a lot of 'pretty tame' films (at least in the past) Ireland as well, far more than say the UK

Yes, we did a long'ish time ago. The whole censorship-system was brought down in 2001, removing all previous bans as far as I know, and nowadays you can apparently publish pretty much anything as long as it'll get the "K-18" stamp on it (aka forbidden from ppl under 18), and it doesn't break any laws like child pornography etc.
I think the last movies banned were in the 80's when they decided to remove those "K-18" movies from rental places etc

How about more than in New Zealand?
um yes, but this isnt about nz
As far as I know there haven't been any movies banned in Finland for quite some time.
well perhaps?,
I just watched tonight this (*)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nightbeast
not banned anywhere! (ok bad example)
but I watch a lot of crap like this & it seems like finland is very puritan with films in the past, if you want examples I can list 10+ films Ive seen in the last year, its like it was a ntional passtime in finnland, banning films

(*)a must watch film, in my must watch list if u like films that are bad but are entertaining, wow I havent added a film to this list for like 2 months so this is sweet

Well the off topic is quite severe already . I've read that some quite new movies are still getting banned in NZ like Hostel 2 and some others as well. Things used to be bad with movie censorship over here, not the case anymore.

It's most likely that your information is just outdated - the fact that they were once banned doesn't mean they still are

Oh well, back on topic...

Austin looks like a real Red Bull circuit.

Kinda hard to argue with that looking at the on-board lap but that long straight could be the equaliser assuming the Red Bulls haven't scarpered into the distance before DRS becomes available. I'd expect Hamilton to be strong again, the Ferrari is going to need a decent upgrade to be competitive. That uphill to an almost blind first corner looks like an opportunity for carnage as well.

"Red Bull circuit" could mean better than average result for Lotus too, as they share the same strengths (cornering speed etc) and same weaknesses (straight line speed) more or less

true, though often when a film is banned the distributor cant be bothered to pay money to have the classification board relook at a movie

Im sure most of these (once banned) films in finland are aviable today
