1440p native is more demanding than 1300p fsr2 to 4k ? Hard to say, fsr2 is not for free.
This is a very easy thing to test no? Someone just boot up the game with like a 6700xt and just test the cost with fsr vs 1440p? I would do it but, I don't have an amd gpu or the game.

What? Which game of its type looks better?

I feel like I'm in lala land.
Joke question? If you're talking about top down games similar to Diablo then The Ascent is an easy one to name. In terms of games in general, like there are so many it's not even funny. Horizon, A plagues tale Requim, etc....

The Ascent.

Maybe Wolcen.

Baldur's Gate 3.

Diablo IV a good looking game, but it's nothing particularly special for a AAA game of this scope and relies a lot on its lack of camera adjustability. You can make many things look quite good when you cant zoom in to show where all the corners are being cut.

Compared to something like Plague Tale Requiem, Horizon Forbidden West or Forza Horizon 5, it's definitely not at all on their level. The 'type' of game it is shouldn't mean they get some free pass to be less impressive than other games like that, given the AAA team making it.

No, not a joke. The Ascent looks about on par with Diablo 4. And no... I said games of its type. So, similar games. Nobody is going to say Diablo 4 is the best looking game of all time..

Why does the 'type' of game matter, though? Why does this game get some exemption from comparisons with other AAA games? :/

Also, The Ascent not only looks fantastic at a distance, it still looks great even when zoomed in. Something Diablo 4 doesn't let you do as far as I'm aware.

So what exactly is the problem here... The Ascent isn't on some other level, neither is Wolcen, neither is Baldur's Game 3... give me a damn break. Sounds like you're mad because you can zoom until it looks bad enough for you??

And again, no idea why you guys are bringing up those games which are NOTHING like Diablo. Yes, the type of game it is matters... Budget goes towards content and not making everything pretty so it can be zoomed in on. I shouldn't have to spell that out for you.

To be clear, I'm not 'mad' about anything. I'm just saying it's not super impressive from a visual standpoint like other modern AAA games and thus I'm not surprised that, with Blizzard's typical great optimization practices, it runs very well.

Also, saying that The Ascent and Baldur's Gate 3 are 'nothing' like Diablo 4, your argument is genuinely running on fumes. They are all modern, isometric viewed games, which should be the most important thing if we really want to judge like for like. But even that shouldn't matter a ton when we're still talking about a huge AAA studio and so we should also be able to compare with games like Plague Tale.

I strongly disagree. The Ascent looks clearly better in my eyes. Furthermore, the game runs at 1800p on the ps5 at 60fps while Diablo 4 is running at 1260p. Even the ps4 pro version of The Ascent ran at 1440p. Even if it looks the same, it's embarrassing for Blizzard to be technically outclassed by a 12 person indie dev team..... All I'm saying is for what it's doing, it's performance is actually woeful.

I just want to say, I'm not saying that. I think it runs quite well, it's just clearly not some cutting edge graphical showcase and so of course runs pretty well as a result.

First of all, your mistake is comparing it to "other AAA games" which are nothing like it.

Secondly... I wasn't referring to The Ascent and Baldur's Gate 3 when saying "those games are nothing like it..." I'm talking about Horizon, A Plague Tale.. ect..

And again... there's nothing you've mentioned which is on some other level from Diablo 4. It looks great, runs great... This entire argument is just basically starting drama where there is none. It's not impressive to you? Great! So I asked which ones you though were more impressive, and all the ones you said look great... but they're not WOW Impressive! levels of great. Diablo 4 looks as good as it should.. these games are far more about art content than they are about breaking barriers in 3d rendering.

Yup. About 47% of the native (pre-upscaled) resolution with reductions in textures, shadow maps, simpler AO and some simplified floor details. They basically tuned the Series S version to the different parameters of the system e.g. fill, compute, memory. Game looks great even on the S. Even has a smaller install size so it seems to be cutting assets it'll never use.

A compelling counterpoint to the Series S version of SF6 which is a bit disappointing however I look at it. Game itself still looks like a blast though.

Ah, embarrassing for Blizzard to be technically outclassed by a 12 person indie dev team....on the back of an engine created by and iterated on by some of the smartest people in the industry, alongside contributions from thousands of other people over multiple generations

I'm not going to take anything away from the awesome folks who worked on The Ascent... but the way you're looking at this is just completely wrong.

Why is it a mistake to compare it to other AAA games? It's a AAA game, no? It's a Blizzard flagship title. In fact, it's probably closer to a AAAA-level project than anything.

Also, you're very much confusing me with others. I wasn't jumping on you 'from the other side', I was merely responding to what you said, as my own individual person. I think they've done an impressive job overall, but it's just not cutting edge and thus is still comparable in visuals to plenty of other games, which goes a long way in why this game runs so well.
