As Tom says, it's such a bizarre decision to release it at this point when it dropped out the blue. When every platform has the same issue, you can't blame this on QA, I highly doubt the problems weren't known and yet...why now? There's a slew of Microsoft releases this year, while this release is certainly a success, I fail to see why this was not delayed 3-6 months.

The most logical reasons I can see is: 1) Most people just don't give that much of a shit about performance (likely true), or 2) The limitations of Gamebryo's underpinnings might mean this is not solvable...?

the engine will ever be impressive, for what they managed to do at the time, but now we can see the limitations much more clearly. It'd be interesting to know the performance of the original, a game which I have purchased time ago. iirc, it ran at a stable 165fps on my monitor a couple of years ago, but I just tested the initial part of the game when you escape jail.
