Call of Duty 4: Modern combat trailer up

Everyone that's bummed because of the short single player obviously hasn't played CoD 1 and 2. The game is all about multiplayer, this is one of those games that still going to be packed in 2 years, heck I still play CoD1 every now and then. :)

I am going to get it today.

EDIT: I don't mind the 5 hour if the experience can hold my attention throughout. I can't complete long games because I usually got sidetracked by other matters, and the game wasn't intense/addictive enough to draw me back. These days, I prefer a short game, but with extremely high (but short) replayability.

Its certainly dropped down my list at only 5 hours. I'm not at all interested in the multiplayer (thats what UT3 and TF2 are for ;)) and I hardly ever play a SP game more than once so for me its the SP campaign or nothing. And 5 hours for a full priced game given the current competition in the market seems steep.

Hell, I think i'm actually going to run out of games to play! I already decided to delay Bioshock until I had completed a few other games, now CoD4 looks like a delay and i'm thinking about waiting to purchase Crysis until better hardware is available too. I completed Portal (or near enough) in one sitting and it sounds like HL2:E2 won't take very long. Oh, and i'm probably gonna wait until Gears is bargain bin aswell since I already have it on the 360.

Oh well, there is still UT3, that should keep me busy for a while

And nothing to do with the fact that Sony & Nintendo haven't really fleshed out their online infrastructure, and provided the tools and resources necessary to enable an equivalent online experience? Your impressions that XBox game single player components are getting shorter came after playing Heavenly Sword and Lair? Not trying to be sarcastic, just trying to understand the basis of singling out that platform.

COD4 sounds like a game to play on Boxing Day...don't you think?

had it since yesterday... most beautiful/realistic looking CONSOLE game to date....

Multiplayer is so good that I have only scratched the surface of SP (which is gad danged, drop dead gorgeous). It's the best MP experience ever to me... love the leveling up, the perks, the graphics and all of the game modes. (I'm level 20 online already)

this game (for me) will be closer to 2500 hours long for my $60 :D

Just curious now. Lets say I own a certain multiplatform game on both consoles. What differences am I going to find in their multiplayer experiences on each console??

Live is uniform across games. If I log on and a friend is on his dashboard, I can invite him to a game.

also some PS3 games do not support voice com while ALL 360 games do, the unified friends list and messaging and private voice/text chat during game play (even while in different games or movies) and cross-game invites are just a few of the features that distinguish the two systems.

Gametrailers says a dozen missions, 30 - 45 minutes each, in their review. So, possibly 6 - 9 hours.

Still looking for a multiplatform review that addresses the differences (for SP) before I decide which version to buy, but I can't seem to find one yet.

The playstation network is free. Are the extras really worth it? Considering they'll be in a future firmware release for the PS3. Again for free.

Sadly, if the PS3 version had fared worse you wouldn't still be waiting for such a review.

This'll be one of those cases where multiplatform support has really hurt the developers then? Especially in terms of quality between the two platforms.

Inifinty Ward are due credit for pointing out that alot of developers are just EMO. ;)

That'll be swell, but that doesn't do much for you right now does it? PSN is free because thats what they are able to get out of it, I wouldn't be surprised if they add something equivalent to Live Gold in the future when they have a complete feature set. I'm sure they'd love to have the $300 million or so dollars MS has milked out of live.

Reports from gamers I know who have the game are indicating the game is taking them well over 5 hours (one guy is at 11 and still not done), so it will be interesting to see what other reviews say (GTs put it at longer than 5 hours) and what actual consumers get, not that I personally care.

I would accept this had it not been for the glut of Xbox titles equipped with highly fleshed out and established online components as opposed to Wii & PS3 titles which have either none or severely crippled attempts..
So having a robust MP experience in addition to the SP is a bad thing :???:

A perfect example of this would be VF5 for instance..

It's pretty obvious to me that due to the premium nature of a service like XBL when compare to Sony's & Nintendo's offerings (which are free), it's in MS's best interests to encourage online across all of there platform releases whether first party or not..

& for that reason I think it's pretty clear that there are trends towards xbox titles (whether ports or exclusives) having stronger/existent online components than their counter-parts..
Yes, VF5 is a great example.

You get the same SP experience as the PS3 version--plus the v.C update and some game enhancements--but the additional bonus of online leaderboards and online play.

You have lost nothing in regards to SP, but gained a MP element the other platforms lacked. And while you point out the "free" status of the other platforms and the "premium" for XBL, you should consider the fact companies are utilizing XBL not because MS is "pushing" it but because the "premium" status and the robust install base (and easy of implimentation) allow publishers to deploy online content in a meaningful way. So you look at it as MS "encouraging" publishers to support XBL, but it may be much simpler: It is better and has a larger userbase which justifies the investment whereas the PS3 and Wii would require more work than XBL and the userbase doesn't justify this investment.

So when you say:

(i.e. "more multi-player, bollocks to everything else.." syndrome..)
and

A perfect example of this would be VF5 for instance..
Your example does nothing to substantiate your claim. VF5 isn't an indication that Xbox gamers are ignoring SP. The SP is BETTER on the 360 than the PS3. If anything VF5 shows a different trend.

Lastly I think you should try and lower that chip off your shoulder when stating your oppinion on a matter Joshua.. It's doesn't do well towards keeping discussion civil and often down-right pisses people off with an "I am greater than thou" attitude it so prominently resembles..
There isn't anything uncivil about my post. It is focused on the topic and specific points. You were and are wrong. Just because you are a developer and have broadcast such doesn't mean you get a free lunch, especially when your points are incorrect. And I don't appreciate the snide comments littered in posts, PMs, or being called out on the forum because some developer is upset when they are told they are incorrect when they used tired arguements like, "The 360 has mostly FPS".

If anything most of us are really sick of the mischaracterizations and FUD people float on the forums with a clear bias. Xbox is the Dreamcast2 and 360 is mostly FPS and the like.

MS has $300 million in revenues from XBL?

Is there a link to some announcement?

That's a lot of $50 subscriptions if true.

Folks: Please stop bickering. There is a thread in-progress regarding multiplatform development. Use it. If there are issues or problems, may I remind you of the Report Post function or the Private Messaging System (*cough* PMS *cough*).

Branching discussion of XBL/PSN market practices may be taken to a new thread if anyone should wish it.

You may want to ask your question in the recent MS Financials thread:

I am going to get it today.

Great, you can let us know how smooth online is (getting into games, matchmaking, lag, voicechat, local buddy list, racism:)p), etc).

I do mind length of single player campaign hence online is the main reason for me but I won't be able to play for the next two weeks so I appreciate any input.

Also how much will I be punished for being late to the game?
