BTW
the elite will always be black, does NOT have the 65nm Xenon but it DOES come with composite/component/HDMI cables all in the box and allows connections from each as well as an optical/RCA out for secondary audio.
This is what I was thinking about. For a moment there I thought Microsoft released its first SKU that was acceptable to me (not that I'd run out to get it, mind!), but right now it seems that the only change to the actual unit is the HDMI port. In all other respects it is identical to the Premium version?
So, questions that remain for me:
- do I understand correctly that the HDD add-on is the same for the Premium and the Elite? I am confused here. It says detachable, so I assume so. Does it still have an internal 20Gb drive? Or do we effectively have a $179 add-on that we can attach to, say, a Core unit? I'd assume the latter.
- What performance does this configuration have? Is it basically USB 2.0, or is it something proprietary that is more like SATA?
- how easy is it to connect that HDD to another device? (say a PC or PS3) Right now the cable looks like a custom 360 controller type plug.
- give me some new noise-measurements. Last time I read about measurements of the 360 (in a recent German C't magazine) it had it pegged at 3.8 Sone when the DVD drive is spinning at full tact. That's still way too loud.
- how is Ana reconfigured in this HDMI setup? Do we have a digital scaler now?
- what will retailers make of this three SKU setup?
By the way, the white one looks better, imho. White and green is much more classy, and this one brings back associations with the Xbox1.
Also goes better with face-plates.
I'd probably have released a silver one myself.
