Tom Clancy's The Division [PS4, XO]

From all those videos... The bullet sponge enemy is the most immersion breaking for me.

Normal clothed human, charging at you while using a wooden club... And it takes lots of shots to kill him.

Why? His clothes made of adamantium or something?

Headshot also did not kill enemy.

Can't they do it like metalgearsolid v? E.g. Add helmet so you can't one shot enemy using Headshot.

Instead of making their bare head as strong as a tank.

It's not a TPS exactly, it has a lot of RPG elements. I like that to be honest.

I like that but they can be creative and properly merge tps and rpg.

Like I mentioned above, certain enemy, or high level enemy, or enemy on high alert can wear helmet to prevent one shot kill headshot.

Instead of simply make the enemy have a head made of adamantium...

Btw that idea of helmet was borrowed from
Metal gear solid v and it works awesome.

The big pull for me with Destiny were of course raids. Raids and discovering how to solve them with your group of friends is perhaps some of the most rewarding things you can do in social gaming. I found the first raid to be right up there and a lot of fun. We took weeks to clear out the first phase without seeing what others did, but it paid out well in terms of enjoyment.

I don't think Division has raids, and I feel that's going to be a big missing piece of the puzzle.

I am not sure but some seem to think it will have the equivalent of raids. They have spoken of 8 man PVE activities. I dont know exactly if they will be "raids" but maybe similar. If not then I guess the pinnacle of the game might be that Dark Zone stuff.

Yes Raids are amazing in coop in Destiny, I fully agree, and are some of the best experiences in gaming. But an OPTION to play the game completely solo, without suffering penalty of not getting the best loot, would be a great thing to try IMO. At least making a more solo friendly game is something they should explore IMO. You are still playing in a world with other players so it's not like you're turning it into a single player game.

Destiny really tries to force social interaction on the player. Which is usually annoying when something is forced like that. And also creates all the issues with events not having matchmaking.

looks good even if not like the reveal , which was godly. The colours give it a nice feel, like Destiny.

What I want to know is how are they implementing bosses? Such bullet spongy co-op RPGs are all about the peaks in gameplay provided by the bosses. What is their idea of a boss battle in this realistic world of The Division.

If they pull that off well, then this could turn out very special. Otherwise, it may fade out as a grindy TPS.

Way too much HUDs on screen it's almost claustrophobic, it just makes everything so artificial. And hate the bullet sponge AI, it would surely take away the fun of killing someone with good aim but now it's just rinse and repeat. Graphics are disappointing, maybe it looks good in the start of the gen but now after seeing some of the 2015 titles and the upcoming ones it's just slightly over average at best. I also wonder if this game would have any significant set pieces at all.

Spoiled the whole AC Unity visuals with that HUD over 50% of the screen.

You can turn it off if I am not mistaken.

The Division'a HUD is less intrusive than the HUD in most RPG or open world games and at least it wobbles.

P.S.
The only game that did HUD right in recent history Dead Space and in minor way Syndicate, all the the others games have horrible HUD :yep2:

Destiny has spoiled me in minimalist and usable hud.

The division is actually quite minimal but not as minimal as destiny.

Hopefully the hud is customizable, unlike destiny.

@RenegadeRocks yeah I'm also curious with the boss battle. They can't use weird magic tricks like destiny (rotating shield, Templar barrier, thrown across time).

They need to use realistic feeling mechanic.

But the gameplay mechanic with the stupidly bullet sponge goons that can survive headshots makes me concerned what cheap tricks they will use...

Even more bullet sponge?

Edit : if they copy paste the boss battle of metalgearsolid v, it will be nice. It is bullet sponge but it is nice.

For example in the division, they can make the boss wears heavy armor that after certain damage will break and the boss become vulnerable (like skulls battle in mgsv).

Or the boss rides a vehicle or use blast shield.

In general the more a game leans towards RPG elements the more stats matter so, like here, headshots don't' matter unless you have the right stats in the gun.
I didn't play Destiny but Borderlands 2 worked like that: stats > aim.
.

The best thing for me from these previews is this PvP zone where you can get the best loot. On paper this sounds great and with good team coordination this could be something special when it comes to multiplayer games.

One thing I like is that even with the harsh LODs, pretty much all lamps cast shadows. Other games just disable them outright to save performance (I'm looking at you Watch_Dogs).

Yea I get you on your points though personally I don't mind the forced social. I know you're a fan of solo nightfall if I recall correctly lol. Personally I rather just wait for friends to come online.

Content for these types of games are rather hard to keep building on month over month. If other MMOs are an indication of how challenging it is for developers to keep content flowing post release, Ubisoft will be tested here in rather Uncharted waters; as players will chew through stuff at an astonishingly fast rate.

The payment structure following post release will also determine how long their crowd will stick around, I liked destiny but I couldn't stand the payment structure, just a lot of grind and costs for relatively little content.

Hopefully this is addressed differently by Ubisoft but who knows.

And I have no problem with that as long as the developer properly put it in the game with proper gameplay mechanic that is not a simple bullet sponge.

Actually it's fun when properly implemented like in metalgearsolid v with armored / helmet goons and skull boss.

Dunno about borderlands. But destiny sidestepped this immersion problem by having aliens as enemy. Most of the enemy also wear full body armor, from head to toe.

Heck, destiny even have weapon with stagger perk to cleverly handle the armored shielded enemy (phalanx).

It includes all the visual settings for the game which are many, from gaf: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=192376088&postcount=1

I know you're a fan of solo nightfall if I recall correctly lol.

Long long ago I did a few, haven't soloed a nightfall in ages, LFG is not much harder than matchmaking.

Some people build their Destiny gaming around social,. "oh I'll go do whatever my friends are doing". I'm just not wired that way, I want to progress in the game, and so I want to raid exactly when I want to raid, like right at that minute, etc. For that LFG works best for me. I've never at all like the idea of random people "inviting" you to do things, in Destiny or when playing other games too, cus it's unlikely to be exactly what I want to be doing at that moment, so it's just annoying. Like a few people in Destiny invite me a lot of times over a few days, after me turning them down a lot (unless they are doing what I want to right then, again, unlikely) they get the picture. Some people want to just shoot the shit and the game is the backdrop, just a place to fuck around. That's not me. Sounds selfish as well, but in general I'm not all that into the idea of sherpa-ing others.

To tie it back on top, yeah, a more solo-able game, something The Division should explore. And I'm not the only one who thinks that as it's a constant thought on GAF. This doesn't mean you HAVE to lone wolf, only that should you want to, the option is more viable.

MGS V level of "bullet sponginess" scales ridiculously.
At extreme the Skulls are almost invincible, not even headshot with a rocket do much damage (only the anti-matter sniper rifle deals enough damage).

^ That first vid has really good IQ, is it 1080p on X1 as well? Curious to see how the Ps4 version looks even though i'll be playing on PC. Also, big fan of the UI, reminds me of Dead Space.
