Sony Playstation E3 2013 Events

Look at this size comparison:

Is MS slacking or Sony engineers that good? Must be a bit of both I think. Hopefully the system won't be too noisy.

So was Microsoft engineers better when X360 (and original Xbox too) was smaller than PS3?
Where is this from ? Has MS released official dimensions for XB1 ?

i'd like to know that too...

Jeff Gerstmann who was there said the reaction from the crowd at the Sony conference seemed genuine not from plants, he said the crowd were into the show and he couldn't recall similar level of enthusiasm at other shows.... this year or previous years. He also said he is not really into Sony first parties and seemed pretty objective.

I thought it was a pretty dead crowd except for the massive cheers for no DRM. Which we kinda could expect given the net brouhaha the last few days.

ok. This isn't a versus thread and you couldn't pay me to watch those two hours again except for the indie reveal. THAT was awesome.

???? you made a comment about booing and suggested that the show was poor, I am referencing someone who was actually there who says the crowds reaction was opposite to what you are saying. Not trying to single you out but I am sharing what I think is a relevant perspective on the conference since its part of the discussion.....

BTW we agree the indie segment was very cool.

I think that when it all boils down to basics the PS4 is a mighty good sounding option to people who don't desire to see or expirence change. And what I mean by that is this.

When blackberries and iPhones came out people hated that it requires a data connection but now in honesty how well would a smartphone work if it didn't have persistent access to the Internet.

I'm actully excited about the possibilities the XB1 will offer in 2 to 3 years when developers start to explore the possibilities of every console being connected and having camera/voice commands.

I feel that in this generation PS4 owners and fanboys alike will celebrate the victoy of offline gaming but it is my opinion a shallow victory when that offline freedom will actualy be a major disadvantage.
Developers won't be able to craft games that have a 100% online connected audience rate.
I think that everyone thinking that MS is shooting them selves in the foot with having an always online system and 24 hr DRM checks is actully scared that after one company takes the risk and shows it didn't destroy them Sony and Nintndo will be doing the exact same thing next generation.

Will I be buying both systems hell yeah I will I preordered 2 of each just because I like new and exciting titles. That and I hate sharing with my kids lol.

You have been misled. Either console is required to be always online. The xbone does have a 24hr check its true that every console will have some type of internet connection sometime. People could always use just their cell phone to do check as some pr person said using hotspots.

Ps3 had many games that were just online only so I don't think that is an issue.

I don't care what those guys said. I watched and listened to it live too as we wrote in the beginning of this very thread.

Not saying this about you, but the hypocrisy regarding these shows is ridiculous. With the exception of the indie stuff the Sony conference wasn't as good. It was long and boring and two games straight up crashed... a lot of the people in this thread said they were confused as to whether or not they were experiencing stream lag or if the game on screen was chugging.

What saved Sony's bacon was the disc based DRM explanation, and the price reveal. AND yes a 100 unit currency delta is a definite win.

I have seen maybe 4 or 5 mainstream games that have me interested at this point on both platforms and honestly I am concerned that there is a chance that all this new hardware is going to do is present the same stale game-play scenarios in prettier environments. So coming out of the shows my personal take is less enthusiastic than with the previous generation and concern over what the sort of projects the big publishers are going to take on.

OTOH the indie stuff is showing lots of potential, I would like to see Sony flush out how consumers can sift through all that content to find stuff that will truly appeal to them. New development tools should be able to help drive some of the cost down with making games and if the platform holders truly provide an ecosystem which makes self publishing viable we could be on to something really interesting but of course the devil is in the details....

I found this,

Good for a laugh.
I gotta say that the guy who designed this back in May was a visionary. A quite accurate mock-up, imho.

I forgot to mention that this was my favourite recreation of the machine, a great mock - up even if it got it all wrong, but I love how you could insert the discs there and how elegant it was.

Well, now on reflection since a day has passed already, I would like to give my opinion on the E3 conference from Sony, the good and not so good things.

The good:

- The price. A true surprise to everyone, I expected the console to be priced at 450-500€. The megaton of the conference.

- The anti-DRM policies, another huge surprise. I expected Sony would follow suit somehow in that sense because publishers have a lot of power today. DRM policies and price can make Sony win the next generation.

- The Order looked fine to me.

- Sony's CEO and basically all the Sony's staff in the conference. They showed a nice, friendly attitude. Loved that.

The Bad:

- The conference was rather boring to me. Compared to Microsoft's event and even Ubisoft's conference, it was less dynamic in my eyes, and the games they showed, save a few of them didn't look as exciting as the games Microsoft and Ubisoft had shown.

- Vita hasn't got enough support from them.

- The PS Eye camera is optional. They probably wanted to keep a tight BOM, but it means the camera won't get universal exposure if they don't pull off something like what Microsoft did with Kinect in 2010. Knowing the price of the Xone, I think they could create a pack with the camera bundled at a slightly higher price, the core would buy it, and that means success.

In conclusion, :) my personal opinion is that... hadn't it been for the price and some policies among some games and a couple of stellar moments in the event, it could be considered an average conference compared to others in the E3.

I don't recall seeing anything from Naughty Dog, Media Molecule, Santa Monica, Studio Japan for PS4 at the conference yesterday, can someone confirm?

Not a comparison thread.

Think carefully before you compare different things. RROD, external power brick, different tech specs (e.g., first gen BR drive vs slim DVD drive), noise level.

Nope, because of RROD :)

And SONY's bad heatsink design attracted/retain dust like a magnet which caused the PS3 to overheat and fail...;)

Funny thing is at first glance that heatsink "looked" impressive but long term engineering was poor...

Mostly indies and third parties. I think they only showed 4 known first party titles, and 1-2 new ones. MM and ND are missing. Yeah yeah TLG not there too.

Japan Studio is doing knack.
Media Molecules showed tear away on Vita.
But no nothing was shown from the others you mention. Technically the order is being done through Santa Monica, but it's external.

The crowd only seemed dead during the first half when it was indeed pretty boring. Then when they showed the PS4 and games, it was pretty much the same as the other conferences I've seen. And then at the end when they said no DRM, no always on and the price, that's the loudest I've seen any crowd get. It was a well paced conference IMO.

The indie stuff was very nice and very exciting considering how open Sony's platform appears to be. The next naughty dog, and Santa Monica studios just may come out of that indie program.

Overall with both shows there was only a dearth of interesting concepts being brought to the floor. I think that is why Kinect gameplay in this iteration is actually exciting.
