Sony Playstation E3 2013 Events

How is it that both the PS4 and XB1 almost look identical I'm looking a two separate companies designing pretty much the same looking console. High gloss and flat black seems to be the growing trend I think that even the new Mac Pro's have the same color combos.

I don't get it either. In this day and age where fans can produce beautiful mockups and concepts we get a console that looks like a 80s VCR and another that looks like the offspring of the PS2 and Wii.

1) Price is not limited to BOM cost. Hardware can be sold with large profit margins or at a loss. 2) We don't know the BOM for either platform and MS may be having yield issues.

The hardwares are pretty much known quantities at this point unless something radical happens to change that understanding.

Maybe MS has studied the initial price drops of the PS3 and 3DS and determine that it may be advantageous to follow that model if yields aren't currently where they need to be.

I think the lack of games during the first 2 years hurt the ps3 more the initial launch price. Within a year, the PS3 became more price competitive, but the game gap between PS3 and 360 was still an issue.

Early adopters aren't the most price sensitive bunch. They also tend to understand the price premium they pay is a function of early access. Hence their willingness to pay prices well above MSRP from sites like ebay.

The price difference probably won't become a real detriment until spring 2014. That may provide enough time for MS to get its supposed yield issue under control.

Kudos to Sony, their PR and their design decisions were on point this gen in terms of resonating with gamers. Im trying to figure out how to get both day one without wifey blowing a gasket.

No, at this point its pretty much confirmed that the rumoured "downclocks" were actually about the PS4. Sony used some pretty clever misdirection to cast suspicion over the XBO, and divert attention from themselves. Just like the recent story about MS using paid PR shills on Reddit that SCE had planted. This is now triple confirmed by both my Chinese AND Korean sources. :yep2:

More importantly, is the vertical stand included? I haven't seen that called out yet.
 The Internet is serious business.

I guess now being news means the Xbox One is no longer qualified for a lot of the rumours going round...

He dodged the question about FFXV being exclusive lol.

all he said was 40 games have exclusive content.

He should have said something like 'if we'd spend 1 billion on buying exclusives, we'd have to raise the price to 499' ...

399 should not have been a surprise - after the PS3 launch, it was settled quite soon by the new powers that be, that never again. I actually wouldn't be surprised if they were willing to go 349 if MS went for 399, but because of the 8GB GDDR5 they were probably glad they didn't have to.

I am more and. More convinced that the Eye by itself is a pointless addition to PS4. It would just have looked bad vs Kinect, and then they'd have to include a Move, which looks clumsy.

But I still want my serious sword fighting game, god dang it!

PS4 does not appear as small in context as it did last night

he said yea PS Eye will not be a part of the scope of their machine, it's there for the few that want it

I like it a lot.

i am shocked personally, no way i thought it would be cheaper than xbone.

just trying to admit when I'm wrong

399 and 8gb, two absolute shockers from sony i didn't see coming, with gigantic positive implications for them.

and yet it still feels like they're in a big dogfight for their life anyway, maybe that says something too.

had they gone with 4gb this battle would be over, or they'd be fighting an uphill one for sure. power is really really really important.

Sony copied MS's industrial design and failed...it's as simple as that...

I honestly thought SONY would have a cool/unique industrial design...I'm disappointed.

As far as price, I think it's reasonable but we know the only reason why that is....it doesn't include the camera. I think SONY knew they wouldn't be able to compete with Kinect 2 so they quietly bowed out and decided to offer it as an optional accessory. And now you gotta pay to play online so I'm not seeing why people are deluding themselves into thinking it's cheaper...it really isn't. Looks like there's some cognitive dissonance at play here.

Not to mention they teased it the day before the xbox reveal..... basically revealing the console as someone was able to pretty much construct the box from the parts shown

Lol, still dont know which design is worse but both are better than the ugly and inconvenient shaped current gen consoles

But yes, roles are kinda reversed - where as xbox360 was cheaper out of the box but you had to pay for services you get free on the PS3, had no Bluray and no swappable standard HDD.

On the other hand, the camera is something a fair portion will have no interest in, and if the past is any indication the games you get for free with PS+ already more than compensate the 60€ per year. Heck I havent played online for more than a year and still am subscriber.

arguments for the xbone hardware are slim, if you are into live or the exclusive games then this should be the only reason.
