Sony Playstation E3 2013 Events

Sony copied MS's industrial design and failed...it's as simple as that...

How do you know Sony copied MS? Its not like they saw MS's conference in May and said "hey lets make something similar". Its impossible
I am more inclined to believe they were both influenced from the evolving designs of current electronic devices

It's needless to say that with Sony's track record, the notion that they would copy someone's design, let alone MS, is absurd.

Look at their Vaio's, past Playstations, mobile phones, cameras. Anything they've done really. And look at MS's work.

The end.

Good PS4 show and I like the fact that Sony made a presentation about the core business in gaming - games (not tv, tv, tv, sports, sports, sports, call of duty, call of duty, dog). There was something I didn't liked it that was the Assassins Creed presentation that the game simply blocked.

I honestly thought SONY would have a cool/unique industrial design...I'm disappointed.

As far as price, I think it's reasonable but we know the only reason why that is....it doesn't include the camera. I think SONY knew they wouldn't be able to compete with Kinect 2 so they quietly bowed out and decided to offer it as an optional accessory. And now you gotta pay to play online so I'm not seeing why people are deluding themselves into thinking it's cheaper...it really isn't. Looks like there's some cognitive dissonance at play here.

It's natural and legit that we feel disappointed when we care about something that in your case is PS4. I have a PS3 and I bought the playstation move and you know what? I don't use it for more than one year and a half - in that respect kinect 2 would be another dust gatherer.
Paying for playing online is not new to you - you're used to - but even then the price of xbox1 + gold subscription is a lot higher than ps4 + playstation plus subscription - just do the math (there are some calculators online that can help you). 8)

I dont know how you came to your initial conclusion. Did you miss the first hour of the presentation? Did you miss the Sony Media worldwide CEO touting music, tv and movies tied into the Playstation ecosystem?

I think that when it all boils down to basics the PS4 is a mighty good sounding option to people who don't desire to see or expirence change. And what I mean by that is this.

When blackberries and iPhones came out people hated that it requires a data connection but now in honesty how well would a smartphone work if it didn't have persistent access to the Internet.

I'm actully excited about the possibilities the XB1 will offer in 2 to 3 years when developers start to explore the possibilities of every console being connected and having camera/voice commands.

I feel that in this generation PS4 owners and fanboys alike will celebrate the victoy of offline gaming but it is my opinion a shallow victory when that offline freedom will actualy be a major disadvantage.
Developers won't be able to craft games that have a 100% online connected audience rate.
I think that everyone thinking that MS is shooting them selves in the foot with having an always online system and 24 hr DRM checks is actully scared that after one company takes the risk and shows it didn't destroy them Sony and Nintndo will be doing the exact same thing next generation.

Will I be buying both systems hell yeah I will I preordered 2 of each just because I like new and exciting titles. That and I hate sharing with my kids lol.

I stand that a gaming console it's main purpose is gaming - movies, music, pics, etc. to me is just a plus. Microsoft first objective was tv, media, etc., but not the main purpose of a gaming console. My point is that the Microsoft presentation was a complete brainwash - just look at this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbWgUO-Rqcw
Now, compare to Sony presentation....

Do you mean the boring 10 minutes of the first hour?

I found this,

Good for a laugh.

Sony designed PS4 in two weeks? u kidding?

I could design an empty shell prototype using a 3D printer in one day...;)

That's the irony isn't it? MS's industrial design have come a long way....just look at their Surface tablets...

How is it that both the PS4 and XB1 almost look identical I'm looking a two separate companies designing pretty much the same looking console. High gloss and flat black seems to be the growing trend I think that even the new Mac Pro's have the same color combos.

What is ironic is people saying they hate one design and love the other, both designs are similar but I am not sure copy is fair or accurate.

The PS4 clearly takes some design inspiration from the Vaio line with the sleek angled shape at the front and back. However what mostly stands out with both is the change in texture going left to right on the top to mix things up.

I think both look nice.

I am more and. More convinced that the Eye by itself is a pointless addition to PS4. It would just have looked bad vs Kinect, and then they'd have to include a Move, which looks clumsy.

But I still want my serious sword fighting game, god dang it!

So without the pseye I assume the colored lights on the controllers are rendered useless or were they for something else?

Is MS slacking or Sony engineers that good? Must be a bit of both I think. Hopefully the system won't be too noisy.

Was there any EA published big game showing during the conference? I remember Ubi, Activision, Take 2, WB, SE but no EA game.

MS got the traditionally Sony shown FPS Battlefield (in addition to it's typical CoD) for its conference, plus the exclusivity deal with the new Respawn game, not to mention Fifa during the reveal event.

EA announced the end of online pass thing, which doesn't make as much sense on Sony's platform now.

It feels like EA-Sony relations are far less than perfect , or is it just me?

You're right, but Tretton specifically calls out Madden and FIFA (and Call of Duty) before he started going into the no DRM spiel as a subtle reassurance that EA and other big publishers know they can't really ignore the PS4 platform. For one, their sports licensing agreements probably prevent it, and their shareholders won't be happy about how many sales they'd be leaving on the table.

Are people really surprised by this? Everyone easily accepts that MS's Live and overall software/OS is better than Sony's. Because MS is a software company.

Sony should have the better hardware - and by this i mean the construction of the console, not necessarily the power of the components - because they are, always been and always will be, a hardware business.

It is relatively easy for MS to construct better software/OS than Sony, just as much as it is in Sony's nature to want a product that is constructed 'better', in a smaller package which proves their engineering brains. Regardless if people actually like the exterior design or not, which is down to taste.

I think we'll have to wait to look at the internals of the final production consoles. That way we could see actual power consumption, internal/external P/S, size of fan, board etc.

Get with the times dude...MS has come a long way in hardware as well...like I said just look at their Surface tablets which were designed IN HOUSE...

Show me a SONY Android tablet that is as good...

With enough money pretty much any company could produce nice designs...eg hire better industrial designers, better engineers etc. Look at how many former IBM engineers MS hired for their gaming business...

No the boring first hour of a listless two hour show... saved by DRM and price Megatons... at some point people were booing... c'mon.

Jeff Gerstmann who was there said the reaction from the crowd at the Sony conference seemed genuine not from plants, he said the crowd were into the show and he couldn't recall similar level of enthusiasm at other shows.... this year or previous years. He also said he is not really into Sony first parties and seemed pretty objective.

The Order, Destiny and a couple other games were received very well in addition to the price and DRM announcements. I can also say that the general tone coming out of E3 by bloggers and writers is that Sony won.

I don't recall the booing you are referencing either......

Without PSEye, the system can't tell where the controllers are spatially.

Scott Rhode mentioned that developers may use the light for ingame effects. e.g., muzzle fire for different weapons.

ok. This isn't a versus thread and you couldn't pay me to watch those two hours again except for the indie reveal. THAT was awesome.
