Rage (id Software)

I liked your review, Warcrow. I'm adding it to the links in the PC thread. I'll post a link to your site and not your post, so you can get some clicks for your efforts!

Lens of truth comparison is up

Their conclusion, relatively identical graphics, 360 pops less and loads faster with full install (not really fair comparison), however the performance area is interesting, PS3 seems to hold 60 FPS, while 360 drops to 45 once or twice and into the 50's here and there.

But without knowing whats going on with the dynamic resolution, it's not a complete picture.

Can anybody confirm out of curiosity how the install works on 360? Can you install all 3 and play only from disc 1? Both campaign and multiplayer?

I have all 3 discs installed campaign needs disc 1 and 2, MP needs disc 3.

Edit: I just made it to the point where disc 2 needed to be swapped.

Anyway played campaign for about 7 hrs so far and a few things that annoyed me.

Your character feels like a midget for some reason being fairly low to the ground.

I get motion sickness after playing for a couple of hours.

The FOV is weird seems there's some kind of cone perspective tunnel vision distortion present.

Other than that the game looks fantastic for the most part though there are some really ugly biological "guts" textures that are "stretched" over low polygon objects.

Is there any other place to buy ammo other than Hagar's?

Wellspring but you can't enter until you accomplish a certain task.

Well that's weird, from what I can understand Id decided to go with dynamic resolution so they can always drop the res when needed to maintain as much as possible the 60fps...it simply doesn't make sense for the 360 version to drop frames as long as they can drop the resolution to keep the frame-rate at 60fps - and as far as I can remember Carmack's primary goal was to deliver a smooth frame-rate across all platforms. :???:

I think I'll wait for the DF face-off...LoT is a joke anyway.

Interesting, thanks. That's quite the difference, should help the PC version as well.

I have the PC version, and dual SSD´s though encrypted that still deliver 200mb+

And a ATI card.. i just got a heavy reminder on how pc gaming is when i started this game :)

imho I don't think some fps drops is worse to dynamic drop to 644x720p framebuffer (& evident tearing too). Would be pretty bizzarre to see ps3 less smoother with that res...by the way, probably different setting can gives only worse result so surely Carmak has choice the best compromise.

It is a very slick, very good looking game but the actual core game play feels like a blast from the past. It still feels, to me, like I am playing Quake 2 on steroids. Not that there is anything wrong with that as Q2 was\is one of my favourite games ever. But I guess if it is just a showcase of what Tech5 can do then colour me impressed. If the core game is something that is supposed to be special then there's a touch of the fail to it. I suppose in that way it reminds of Unreal 2. Which again is isn't a bad thing but I just expect a little more interaction. And why do I never have any feet?? And I float up ladders like I'm greasier than a turkish wrestler. Resistance 3 is still holding my fave shooter spot at the moment.

too bad I dont have the game on PS3, curious to see if texture pop in is better with my 7200 rpm drive, since some games actually load noticeably faster.

I have a 7200rpm drive and I have noticed some texture pop up but not very much and you do have to look out for it.

Add me to the list of impressed peeps! Very good technology streaming issues aside, the fluidity on console is very impressive. The megatexture tech really does a great job in making the world more believeable with the lack of repeating textures. Even though its 60fps, theres still some nice suptle environmental effects at work. Skybox is a a good healthy rez but a pity its not animated. Gameplay wise is pretty good, i understand what people say about a somewhat lastgen feel but its not a bad thing in my book, Now though, Dark Souls is getting it!!!!

That's the difference, I guess, between Rage and say Gears 3 or Resistance 3, it feels like a lastgen game with a current gen coat. And there is no denying that it is one of the best looking FPS's out there. With both Gears and Resistance 3 I felt compelled to play for as long as I could. With Rage I don't feel the same thing. It's not quite getting bored with it but it's just not as enthralling so I can walk away from it.

I hear ya with the not feeling the urge to play non stop, but then again, i'm juggling games around so i'll use that as my exscuse as to why i'm not 24/7 with it 8)

Been playing this on the PS3 for a couple of hours and got annoyed by the frequent pop ins and static feel of the world. The texture streaming is really flawed and the matter is made worse with 60fps. I mean what good is a fast framerate if the engine can't load the detailed textures fast enough to keep up? The game would be so much better in 30fps since you won't have to worry dynamic resolution change and the high res texture would load up in sync with the frame rate.
So far not so impressed and I don't see how it got 10/10 from IGN in graphics.
