[PS3] LittleBigPlanet Impressions

I've uploaded a few more levels...a couple of Maze ones...the first 'The Crystal Maze' was my first attempt - most of the time was spent making the parts, the 2nd (much better IMHO) level 'Crystal Maze 2' is a maze that's rotating - had some pretty good feedback so far, so quite pleased :)

What's disapointing is the fact I spent ~ 40hrs on my Hunchsack level, I think it's fairly good - got some good feedback and overall I think it's a nice little level with a rating of 4 hearts. Problem is it's only had ~170 plays and I've pimped the hell out of it...how do people get thousands of plays - esp. when most the efforts are frankly average at best?!

Anyway, moan over...it's just gutting to spend so much time on something for it to be largely ignored :(

*edit* - oh, I should add the first maze gives you the components I made which makes similar maze levels really easy to make - you just need to have the large grid on and it'll all join together, for example...my 2nd level took <1hour

GOTY version it is then since I am using the US PSN store to buy things
There are no regional restrictions with whom I play online right?

I imported the GOTY edition from Canada and I have problems, I have yet to manage to get into an online game or "let" someone in (when starting an level in online mode)... Always connection failed, failing to load profiles (or something like that), once it even hung and I had to quit LBP ... There were maybe 10 tries and I have UPNP enabled, so it should not be an firewall issue.

Can someone tell me is this normal? Does LBP has online issues? Am I missing something?

BTW, Shifty, the first people I remembered to look for (lvls) were you and patsu :) . Didn´t had the time to play anything yet as I have so much to see and I´m even having problems with the first or second Savannah level, let alone with anything more complicated/harder :) .

I´m mostly looking forward to make some levels, but after seeing the bonus levels on the LBP disc etc., I think I will never publish my efforts because it is mind boggling what people made...

BTW, the beta for ModNationRacers was/is postponed to December 2009 (after typing the code for the 5th time I finally decided to check the internet)...

Cheers...

It was problematic at first but you shouldn't have issues now. You shouldn't have regional issues either as the online is international.

 Shame I never get chance to build anything these days. :( All that stuff I learnt making my other levels is experience wasted.

Hello, thank you two for your replies...

It was problematic at first but you shouldn't have issues now. You shouldn't have regional issues either as the online is international.

Well, for the bonus levels I can understand as it is NA only, so there could be connection problems overseas (altough I played COD4 with NA players without problem - higher ping but no problems); but I do not get why I have problems with the story levels... Will again try it these days.

Shame I never get chance to build anything these days. All that stuff I learnt making my other levels is experience wasted.

Well, you could always give us newbies a few tips. Too bad I cannot take an level and open it in the editor, this is usually how I learn best.

Ha Yemeth, I don't have time to make levels ! My kid is learning now. Wait 3-5 more years.

Fantastic, by then we can buy a PS3+LBP for 100 bucks, so the audience for your kid will be much bigger! ;)

Cheers...

My wife, the kid and myself played an amazing LBP level tonight. It's called:

Simple Complications (II)
by Vandz

If you like hardcore platforming, you should give it a try (Yeah, you. Those people who complained that Uncharted 2 platforming is too easy).

It is one of the most evil LBP levels I have ever played. I want to say it is made by some mad scientists. I can't believe we completed it.

I was annoyed, frustrated and gave up in quite a few places; but to my astonishment, my wife and the 4.5 year old completed these impossible stages via sheer will and quick reflexes. In other stages, they would give up and I had to continue on their behalf. The level includes puzzles and skills I have not seen in other LBP levels before.

I am so glad Uncharted 2 does not include this level of platforming puzzles and skills (Some of them were very painful to execute, but the satisfaction was great). I didn't think some of the mechanics/meneuvers were possible in LBP.

EDIT: Yes, I think it is more difficult, and more intriguing, than the wheel of death in the original LBP levels.

LBP search options does not work properly.

I tried both level name & author name but couldnt find the level you mentioned patsu. I gave up and decided to play a random level. So I chose " Busiest " from search options and guess what ; Simple Complications appeared as the busiest level , lol.

FIX THIS SHIT GG!!! :p

Btw level looks awesome , I mean it looks hard and I love hard levels. Thanks for it patsu.

What are the differences between Simple Complications and Simple Complications (II) ? If you found the former level, was there a way to list all of Vandz's creations, and hop to the right one ?

Were you able to collect all 26 letters ? We missed a couple (Too risky to take , we absolutely didn't want to repeat some of the stages).

I couldnt collect some of them too , I got %76 of them , so I think I missed 5 or 6 letters. Need luck for some of them imo , for example "P" , I couldnt get it even with jetpack.

Didnt look for the previous level btw ( blame broken Search ), so I don't know if there are differences.

So anyone know if Media Molecule ever actually intends to enable the "play create share" stats page in LBP? Seems absolutely bizarre to me that the counters are still stuck at 0 this long after release (embarassing even).

Cheers

What's the Play-Create-Share stats page ?

For searching and community related features, they may need a large server to hold meta info for millions of levels (read: extra cost/overhead).

To offset that cost, they may want to explore additional revenue (e.g., eCommerce with LBP merchandize, advertising, micro-transactions a la Playstation Home, value added services serving the larger Internet websites, etc.).

I wonder if they can explore these models with the Home team since the latter has similar needs. Home is also lacking community stats (e.g., Where are the hottest virtual spaces right now, who's hosting a virtual party in their clubhouse at the moment, what are all the folks playing right now, ...). But they seem to be further along than MM in exploring alternate income.

Earlier on MM hinted at some Internet publishing extension (probably just investigating). If they allow people to publish to websites and the Home world easily and effectively, that would be most awesome and most likely worthwhile.

Go to the leftmost planet that has details about you, four friends, favourites etc. They have been three scales locked at 0 forever!

MM have also been very slow releasing the online creation. Are they just scrapping the idea? I thought the beta went out ages ago. Likewise water mentioned a beta and now it's gone dead. The seem to be employing more and more people and yet producing less and less content. How many man-hours does it make to produce a couple of costumes a month? Either there's a mega pack due, or they've lost sight of the ball.

They could be waiting to integrate it all with LBP-PSP too. Good ideas though.

Honestly at this point, I wouldn't be surprised to see MM offer up an entirely new entry into the series.

Epic fail. No sooner than I post this, do I see MM saying a LBP2 would be counter productive.

What in the heck could they POSSIBLY be doing!?

So.... did you play the Simple Complications (II) level ? I want to know if you guys have trouble with the level :p

It took a lot out of me :)lol:). To tell you the truth, both my wife and I gave up twice halfway. I stood up, declared that the level was broken, and the designer deserved a punch in the face for wasting our time. I was ready to go to bed.

At this point, my feeble 4.5 year old picked up my controller and bit-by-bit, swinged up the impossible (!) slope. It's a little like catching your pet reading newspaper one night. Both of us were dumbfounded, shocked, and a little angry at ourselves (for losing to a kid). Had to swallow my pride and try to get some useful tips out of the little guy  He couldn't explain the mechanics clearly, but I sort of get what he did with the buttons. Didn't bother to retry that stage because there were more challenges ahead. I felt old and obsoleted. I am supposed to be the gamer in the house. ;-)

In another case (the vertical oscillating bar, JardeL would know), again he was able to scale upwards while both the adults were defeated. After about 20 tries, he managed to not only climb up the oscillator, but also jump far enough into the escape chute. All we could do was watch in disbelief and pride.

At which point, I made it a point to treat him more like an adult. The little man has better endurance than me. He also gave me an early look into my senior life (Sh*t !)

Heh heh, I know ! I saw this right after reading your post and chuckled.
