[PS3] LittleBigPlanet Impressions

I guess it's generally more painful to QA games that support user generated content -- just because pesky users do unexpected things. I am actually very impressed by LBP to date. Like I said, no crashes for me so far. The freezes pertaining to level search may be network related.

The more serious problem is lag. Netcode is not easy to fix if not designed right. Let's see what the online authoring patch bring.

More levels. Easy , fun to play & some interesting mechanics ;

Ancient Treetops - Phantom_2k
A Long Way - lil-klash16
LittleBigHouse - rumoz
Pretty Simple - jackofcourse [ This is interesting , as stated in Youtube video description it has multi-use platforms. ]

I'll check jackofcourse's other levels soon.

I played 2 of the levels you recommended above (The Mayan Temple and the Pumping Piston), with my kid. I can't remember the details anymore but I *think* we got stuck in the temple level after crossing a "flaming" river. We couldn't figure out where to go next. :)

All in all, we had a good laugh and good time. Keep 'em coming.

... just in case you thought no one tried your recommendations.

Nice to hear that .

By the way , Mayan Sane Temple walkthrough ; [ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u637ZRax2nM ].

It is also rated #7 here ; [ http://www.littlebigplanetoid.com/level/mayan_sane_temple ].

Has anyone here tried the PSP version of LittleBigPlanet yet? I bought it off PSN yesterday and I think it's amazingly rich in content. The levels are very well designed, and it is literally just about everything that's in the PS3 version except the multiplayer. There's even online leaderboards implemented the same way, you can create and share levels the same way, everything is voiced again in the same way, there are tutorials about everything again, etc.

Everything involving the online aspect is really snappy as well. I downloaded a level to test, and the levels are all really small and download and load really fast. It was a pretty decent level as well (simple platforming it was called or something, was the best rated level at the time).

Really great stuff. Probably deserves its own thread, though I'm not 100% sure, since there are so many similarities.

Aye, I wanted to get it but my PSP is being hogged by son playing Patapon.

The game helps me teach him the importance of rhythm (in gaming... and Piano playing). Can't complain. ^_^

It must only be available on EU, the US only has the demo. I'm downloading it now and will give my thoughts later. I'm hoping it'll be good enough to buy for our trip to Mexico.

Anxiously awaiting it's release on Tuesday!

Played the demo and it was quite nice, it translates well to the smaller form factor and to shorter play lengths.

Yes, I agree!

This also prompted me to play its big brother again. I still hadn't done the last level, and when I looked at the internet it turned out there were just the two machines to beat - I thought there'd be an endless amount of hard to beat machines, especially after some of the harder levels that precede it, but no. And it's actually quite easy to do also.

Ah well at least I got it done now, and they're on facebook together with two other easy trophies I didn't have :D

It's also the first time I got a trophy icon on facebook.

Leaderboards? Do you mean the "Play Share Create" counter that has never actually worked on the PS3 version?

No no, I was referring to the online high-scores for each individual level, both from the main story and user created.

Heh. I thought I saw PixelJunk Shooter and PSP LBP on the Playstation Store last week. I think they were only placeholders (folder and trailers).

This holiday season is like the last one but more spread out. There are too many good games jammed together (not counting Blu-ray movie releases).

Also just read that Sony will be donating PS3s and LBP to libraries and schools:
http://kotaku.com/5410944/obama-and-littlebigplanet-team-up-for-kids

The Sony LittleBigPlanet initiative, Game Changers, is part of a $2 million 2010 Digital Media and Learning Competition funded by the MacArthur foundation. It involves Sony donating 1000 PlayStation 3s and copies of LittleBigPlanet to libraries and community organizations. Participants will strive to create levels that involve science, technology, engineering and math.

That's a really great initiative! I have been thinking the exact same thing, would be really useful. I already made an emitter that ejects bleating sheep within a few minutes to amuse my son. :D

Patch 2.01 for LBP PSP is out by the way. It's a relatively new thing I think for PSP - you select the game on the memorystick (or at least that's how I did it) and press triangle to bring up the menu, which contains Update. The Update is thankfully small (4MB) and downloaded and installed really quickly. Apparently it improves physics performance (speed) and fixes one or two issues.

New Online Update
You’ll be happy to know that our development team at SCEE Cambridge will continue to support LBP (PSP) post launch with ongoing game improvements and upcoming downloadable content. And this has already begun with a new update available for download now. This first update will improve the performance of some of the physics and tools in the Create mode.

Updates are new to the PSP, so we thought a little step-by-step instruction would go a long way:

* Be sure to have online access on your PSP
* On the XMB, highlight the LBP game icon
* Open up the menu with and select “Update”
* Continue with the on-screen instructions
