[PS3] LittleBigPlanet Impressions

Any of you playing a import version of the original LBP (e.g. Canada import to EU etc.)?

I had some bad experiences with my Far Cry 2 and Chronicles of Riddick import games (seems I get always connected to NA servers) so I want to avoid it.

But I can save lots of money if I import the game (and the customs don't catch it ;) ).

Thanks for your answers in advance.

Imports usually means you need buy DLC from the region you have bought the game from, ie US games and EU DLC does not work together.

Thank you, but I am aware of that. The problems I had with e.g. Far Cry 2 is that the lag was so big that the multiplayer was almost unplayable, it has nothing to do with DLC as I do not buy it anyway. I just do not want to import LBP and then have a horrendous lag in co-op etc.

Well finally beat this game. Feels good as those last 2 levels were killers and I never thought I'd get past the wheel of death. With the difficulty of some of the levels I can't see how any 10 yr olds hung in til the end.

I tried it for the first time through the demo and what can I say?

I am impressed!

Probably more impressed than anything I have ever played this generation. Its been years that I felt so many things from a videogame. And its unfortunate that such a work is underappreciated by the market. This as a creation is bigger than anything else I have played on my PS3 and 360.

I wish this got more sales and I will definitely buy it.

Simply spectacular.

If there is one game that deserved 10/10 its this one and only this one this generation so far

Before you go buy it, get the GOTY edition!

How did you manage to avoid it for so long??

I think the GOTY edition will only be released in the US. Not sure where I read that but a quick Google sort of confirms it. You could always import though.

Well there was no demo available before and no store that had it on display to try it on. Also I was a bit scared to spend 50 Euros and then have no time to spend for it. But after this demo I am sold.

Yeah it seems that the GOTY edidtion has been announced only for the NA territory which is sad. I am considering to import it then

Will the US version have any implications though on my experience such as during online?

I am from Europe

The only effect the NA version will have on your EU machine is DLC, meaning any DLC that releases, you'd have to buy it off of the NA PSN store, because the EU stuff won't work with it. Though, unless you plan on supporting LBP for quite some time, the GOTY edition has TONS of DLC included (I think everything released up until now, including MGS DLC).

GOTY version it is then since I am using the US PSN store to buy things :)
There are no regional restrictions with whom I play online right?

LittleBigPlanet is fully international, both playing and sharing content. I'd wait on importing the GOTY unless you already have US content purchasing in place. The water DLC is likely due soon, and they may one to get. If you're into creating. If you just want to play other people's levels, you won't need to buy the water to play water levels.

Speaking of which, no-one here is saying they're on the water beta. I'd have thought Jaeyden was in with a good chance of getting in. Do we even know if it's started??

The official answer is "No plans for GOTY for EU". Might want to complain loudly on SCEE forums to reverse and speed up that decision.

A bit more info about the water:

Here's what's in the option tab for the water tool:

-Level (set the level of water in your creating environnement)

-Wave/Tide/Ripple (whatever it will be called, it sets the waving of the water)

-Color (hell yes, you can put the color you want! welcome lava!!)

-Fog/Transparency (whatever it will be called, set the fog/opacity of the water. This is also welcome for lava!)

-Timer (time it takes to drown while underwater without the scuba suit)

After that they show the scuba suit (no timer underwater when you wear it) and the most amazing thing about the water update:

BUBBLE MACHINE. What does this do? This creates bubbles underwater so you can replenish you air, exactly like in SONIC !!!

This video shows water and online creation. Only don't watch it all! Skip to four minutes, see them add water, and then close it. It's very boring and shows nothing beyond adding water and scuba.

Aye, long video ! It's more like 5:00 minute when the water starts to appear.

Would like to see some waves in action.

I hope people continue to do water level without water though. They are kinda charming too, like this one:

I posted another Japanese level (with giant shark, octopus, jelly fish, etc) in this thread. That one is great too.
