Post Xbox One Two Scorpio, what should Sony do next? *spawn* (oh, and Nintendo?)

I'm not saying mid gen upgrades are bad, In fact I've always been for it personally.
But:
PS4 -> PS5 you will see/notice a bigger difference than
PS4 -> 4Pro -> PS5
Sure the flops between PS4 and PS5 may be the same, but it's then an incremental change. You will not see the huge difference because it happened incrementally.
Early days, but are people saying wow 4pro graphics are a huge difference?
That doesn't mean it's not a worthy upgrade though.

It would really depend on release dates.

Ps4 (2013) to PS4 Pro (2016) is a tiny jump and if they do a Ps5 in 2019 it would be a small jump from the pro surely.

But Xbox one (2013) to Scorpio (2017) will be a bigger jump and if MS waits 4 years again you have 2021 for the xbox next. We could see some very large gains then.

Of course Sony could wait also ps4 pro in 2016 to a ps5 in 2021 will be a big jump too or even 2022. I'd wager it would have to do with process nodes now and no really anything else.

Also since VR seems to be a hit for sony changes for rendering with that like eye tracking could lead to jumps that seem bigger than they actually are

1 - Even if Raven Ridge is released on December 31st 2017, when Scorpio starts production Zen will have been available for longer than Jaguar was when Durango started production.

2 - Lisa Su is definitely under NDA regarding Scorpio. To even think she isn't is pure naiveness.

3 - Mental gymnastics is a term used when someone tries to construct evidence out of facts that don't actually connect, which is not what's happening here as some others have pointed out to you in this thread.
Yes, that statement from Lisa Su seems to be pointing to Zen not being in Scorpio and if you want to stick your whole opinion to a single sentence then great for you.
It's less okay to claim to try to shoot down all other people's arguments by accusing them of doing "mental gymnastics", IMO.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Microsoft has been doing some very over-the-top software breakthroughs within the last couple of years, like backward-compatibility with X360, Hololens and now functional x86 emulation on ultra-low-voltage ARM CPUs.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if Scorpio could end up being able render every existing XBone title at e.g. 4x their original resolution, without any additional effort from the developer. That would make it a substantially smarter upgrade than the PS4 Pro could ever be and really inspire a large portion of the Xbone's userbase to simply upgrade.
Combine that with being able to use the console with decent $300 VR headsets and there could be margin for a very successful product.

As for a PS5 coming in 2019, then the XBTwo would come about one year later, which isn't all that critical IMO.

Sony would be on a seriously tight schedule. PS4 2013 , Pro 2016, PS5 2019 . That's really quick , Sony would have 3 machines out in the time they used to have 2 machines.

It's not a tight schedule, ps4 and ps4p all target same games, its fundamentally same platform this argument makes no sense.

That would be the purpose of launching a mid-gen console. The traditionally long periods of time without keeping up with the PC's aggressive evolution as proven to be detrimental to the console market.

Because if it was Zen it would be 4 cores. Unless you think they will put a CPU that is 8x more powerful than the jaguar in there with only a 4x increase in GPU.

As good as it is, Zen won't be 8x more powerful than Jaguar per core. Unless you think Scorpio would have its CPU clocked at 4.5GHz or something.
And given architectural improvements, you can bet the 6TFLOP GPU in Scorpio is well over 4x more powerful than the GPU in Durango.

Sony is just conditioning peole at that point to keep waiting after all 3 years later you will get a ps5 pro and that will run the games like you want. Oh but wait just a little longer and get a ps6. Not to mention that none of the consoles will get much dev time

Link?

start with the link to the ps5 in 2018 since you brought it up.

MS has already stated that they will put out updates to consoles when there is new hardware to warrant it and they wont be on a fixed x year format. Xbox one is 2013 and Scorpio is 2017 which is 4 years. We could get xbox next in 2022 for all we know.

Sony releasing every 3 years will just cause people to believe they will continue releasing every 3 years.

Wrong, I corrected you interpretation that PS4 is fundamentally a different piece of hardware from PS4. They aren't, same software - one targets 1080p displays and the other 4k.

Wait, did Sony or a poster mention 2018?
Like the Neogaf Scorpion downgrade its a stupid rumor started by one group of fanboys to disillusion the opposing systems fans from getting the 1.5 system. And to disillusion PS fans about the lifespan of the console.

Shouldn't anyone promoting that filth here have to at least provide the link in support of their claim so we can follow it to the BS rumor? Or is there any actual evidence?

i'd hope the ps4 is the ps4 and not different. I am talkin about the ps4pro .

Sony's message is to play the ps4 games at their best possible quality with the ps4 pro. A bunch of titles were recently announced that like the Last of Us 2 will most likely launch in 2018 when you claim a ps5 would launch. Which would make the assertion that either the last of US 2 wont work on the ps5 or that the ps5 would be the best way to experience the last of us 2.

Your trying to be a smart ass but your opening up worse possibilities. So will the ps4 and thus the ps4 pro be dropped in 2018 . Is the ps4 pro's life tied to the ps4 ?

Is the ps5 something different that wont get the ps4/pro games ? If so does sony expect its customers to have multiple consoles at home to play these games.

Are the advertising games like Last of Us 2 and the death stranding wrongly as they will infact be ps5 exclusive ?

If the ps5 is just a continuation of the ps4/pro line then why would u jump in at the ps5 and not wait till the ps5 pro or even ps6 if you own a ps4 or ps4 pro ?

Anyway this should all be in the playstation thread
