Official GT5 discussion thread

Thats because in real life drivers dont overtake or are as risk takers as we are when we play. A small bump may result to a disaster in actual racing and so they do just that. If the B=Spec AI was acting like we do when we play a game it would have been less convincing. In real driving you take into consideration uncertainty. You dont know what the other guy in front of you is going to do.

The AI in Gt5 is stupid, with or without the x2010.

They were terrible in Gt4 (on rails) and things haven't progressed much on this respect on GT5. They are a bit more clever, but they all break to early, accelerate to late, and they don't know how to overtake. Often, i can see my driver get trapped behind a much slower car, when he easily could have passed on the outside lane.

The improvements in GT5 are actually pretty big. B-Spec is a slightly different beast still - the driver has a baseline personality (which mind you I reckon regular AI will have as well), an experience level that makes him a better or worse driver, and then a race contextual level (stress going up or down depending on how close he is to other cars). The race contextual level is the part that you can manage, by telling him to take it easy, keep pace, push it or overtake.

At higher levels, the AI puts up a decent enough fight, but top-level drivers will typically easily beat them. But this is as much to make sure that not only 1000 drivers out of 6 million can actually win a race in the game, as it is a limitation of the AI (which, make no question about it, is still limited). But advantages over the previous games are pretty significant, particularly in positional awareness in corners, which few racing games currently seem to match in my experience which is annoying, because getting touched at the rear-side in a turn, especially at speed, is more annoying than it is anywhere else.

Ya, b-spec is not indicative of the AI in a-spec. If it was, I would agree. Maybe I just suck at b-spec, but my drivers are dumb as f...

At least as far as I can remember, the AI makes many attempts to overtake. Try taking a slower car to make the race more even.

Unless you are blind anybody can easily beat the AI. Just break 1 second or so later than they do in every corner ;)

While the drivers getting some positional awareness is good, they should still understand how to take a corner without breaking a second early.

Tbh, id rather have the AI being agressive. If this entails getting accidentially PIT'ed by someone every now and then, id rather have that. Better than no oposition whatsoever. They dont challenge you if you have even cars - not at all.

B Spec AI is killing itself plenty of times when i watch it race.

You need to drive an underpower car in events, than the game become sort of fun because the AI becomes sort of competitive. Then you have endurance events, where the AI just let you win, they drive extra slow in those events, heck I was standing still for one hour reading this forum and still won the race.

In A-spec, when you get to level 40 do the AI become better ? I've sort of given up on the game. Played it only now and then.

My experience with the game is and has always been that you can make it as hard or easy as you want to by virtue of car and upgrade selection. If the AI was truly competitive, in the early races you wouldn't have a chance in hell as there is no qualifier and overtaking half the field in 2-3 laps would be impossible. If you like a challenge with this game with good AI, find some nice people online to race with. ;)

Patch 1.10 out now ...

http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2011/06/08/gt5-update-1-10-2/

For me the best improvements are likely to be saving during championships (I was waiting with the last few for that update), and easier parts management.

The prizes bit sounds interesting. And the parts feature is a bug bear of many of course. The A.I improvment will need testing which is probably difficult to gauge. Given whats happening in the Forza camp, i wonder if Kaz is aware of the improvements and refinements coming in F4 later in the year. Surely now PD MUST be seeing what other people are doing? An example of this is the various doors/hoods opening and the engine modelled in intricate detail it seems. Clearly if all cars do this then surely Forza will be more set for next gen than GT in this regard? Could PD refit the premiums to do such a thing? Clearly the manpower to do this is huge hence the vast outsourcing T10 do.

Finally some good challenging seasonal events. Loads of credits and XP to be won. And best of all, level 21, 22, and 23, car tickets. The 50% discount in the online dealership is nice aswell.

Back to firing up the BSPEC. Get your drivers ready! :)

Mine have been off-line forever, after I had some issues when switching from one PS3 to another while some drivers wre online. Could have had so much money. ;) But I put some back online now, hope you can use them!

I tried the lotus race in one of the seasonal events, and it's neat that you can now win prices up-to-and-including a certain level car (in this case a level 22 car for first place). Haven't managed level 22 yet though ...

I won the Fiat 500 race. No such luck with the other 2. I've made all 3 car available to borrow. The Fiat 500 should be fast enough, because I used some settings from GTplanet. The Elise and Impreza are only tuned to their max. BHP and weight requirements.

Who are you again on PSN? Would like to borrow your car ... ;)

I lost my last driver after migrating to the new HDD. I think it's because I started GT5 with a new save file. May have cleared my old server record away. :(

Copied my own save back from Cloud Save. New driver "Takagi" is online now. 0 experience. Is he out of your league ?
