Official GT5 discussion thread

One hopes that these source models are ready for all future GTs no matter how advanced the render tech gets, meaning the work on GT5 will carry over into GTs 6 and 7 and beyond, adding considerable value to the original investment.

Only trying to be honest.
This game feels like it was put together by so many different teams and then put into a blender.
I find it hard to believe they played their own game and thought, yeah people are gonna love this.
They tried to hard, tried to be too ambitious but ultimately failed.
I really tried to like it but all you need, is to be honest with yourself and realise that you're. Not really enjoying it and there are far better games out there.

There is still a tonne of stuff to pick and choose from. There's a fantastic, unparalelled game for you in there, and the only way you're going to realise that you're not enjoying it, is either that you don't like driving games in the first place, or you don't realise that you can pick and choose. I think this is why yesterday when I looked in my friends list, more people were still playing GT5 than were playing LBP2 for instance ;). But then of course I have a friends list skewed to GT5. For the record, I'm playing LBP2 myself ...

I've not enjoyed a game this much since Uncharted 2 and God of War 3.
Only thing keepin me from playing is that the wheel setup is more work than just grabbing the Dualshock3 and playing a few LBP2 levels. Also if I sit in front of the wheel and GT5, I likely won't get to bed in time and feel tired next day at work.

Eh… to be honest (rather than just trying ^_^) ? I suspect a lot of people, including myself, enjoy the game.

I met 2 non-gamers during the past 2 weeks who bought GT5. They brought up the topic over dinner. I didn't even know they have a PS3. One of them also bought a Logitech wheel. They commented to me how it consumed their spare time, and were getting tips from me on how to play better. :devilish:

+1. If you like racing simulators and cars, more chances than not you'll like GT5 simply for the fantastic driving model and the huge selection of cars.

Try harder , you might end up admiting it's good to hate GT5.

Just driving (with a wheel) different cars in this game is amazing. There is so many possibilities of driving fun, from hightly powered historic cars ( f330, ford VI) to LM types , or a super powered up mini in urban tracks...

The driving model is fantastic ,as is the track topology, mass transfer physics and how car customisation affects behavior.I easily can live with some cardboard trees , standard cars and some unefficient menu structure.

GT5 is the best of its bloodline.Hands down.

Better games? Are you lalking about driving simulators?
If you are... Dream on.!

GT5 is by far the best racing simulator in console market.
In physics and photorealism, GT5 puts all the competition in a corner.

I would agree that GT5 is the best driving simulator out there now, but Forza 3 (and especially 2 for feeling oh so GT-ish) are still very good games in their own right.

I just finally picked up my GT5 reserved a few days ago and while the driving is just what I expected, the initial reaction was pretty moot with all the installing and loading times just going between menus, and that's where any of my real frustrations with the game lie. I think for the next game in the series, Polyphony needs to take a real hard look in how they are designing the interface and menus. Yes, nice menus look great and all, but when they suck up this much resource, it's just a huge hamper on the experience. I remember GT1 was hardly a problem in this regard, then GT2 packed on the load times between menu screens. GT3 if I remember correctly fixed this problem, and I honestly don't remember too much about GT4. I'm just a bit annoyed at how "next generation" of graphics and realism somehow means the fucking menus need to be so advanced (uselessly) as to require so many loads just to get to a few places. Come on PD. Oh and all th pop up indicators annoy the shit out of me. They could just tell me a new race series is unlocked with a scrolling bar down at the bottom or something like that.

Especially after GT4, it seems GT is getting too pretentious for it's own good. I want the feel of the original game back, with it's very straight forward menu system that emphasized what the game was about: racing. All the jazz music, shiny looking OS X/Windows 7 interface items really just need to be dumped. Browsing the city and the car dealerships was always enjoyable, and since they left that kind of system after GT2, GT's simulation mode has felt a bit lacking.

Yamauchi mentioned that the game hits the network when navigating the screens. During launch, the network + server latency caused the slowdown when traffic was heavy. Not sure what dynamic data they need to send to/from the servers, but they should make the exchange asynchronous.

Kaz just replied to my question on Twitter:

"Kaz, will the new seasonal events be up soon?"

Reply:

"A little break".

Hop over to Polyphony site to see what they're up to. Looks like they are busy with the GT5 Academy races.

On their Japanese website, Polyphony Digital has formally announced they’ll be pulling the plug on GT5 Prologue’s servers June 30th of this year.

GT5 Feedback Forum: Submit & Vote on Game Issues
http://www.gtplanet.net/gt5-feedback-forum-submit-vote-on-game-issues/

Now, that’s all about to change with the introduction of GTPlanet’s new GT5 “Feedback Forum”. This new site feature isn’t a traditional “forum” or message board – it’s a fresh new way to organize and vote on constructive feedback submitted by the community. You’re allotted 25 votes to submit or distribute among the issues most important to you. The most popular or urgent topics will naturally rise to the top for all to see.

Sony, Polyphony Digital, and Kazunori Yamauchi himself are all well aware of GTPlanet and our large community of die-hard fans who want nothing but the best for the GT series. I’m hopeful our new Feedback Forum will be a valuable resource for Yamauchi and his team as they prioritize fixes and features in GT5’s updates throughout 2011.

The new forum has now been integrated as a permanent site feature (you can find a link to it in the main header of each page), and I will be closely moderating the feedback to ensure it remains as realistic, relevant, and constructive as possible.

Yeah I filled the GTP forum form a little while back. Really good idea if the right people happen to "stumble across it."

Latest round of the GT Academy has been scrapped! In the next game update, collision physics will be improved to stop people cheating by cutting corners or riding the walls. Maybe this is why the seasonals are on hold?

I can't believe the amount of care that went into some of the little details in this game.
I was using photomode on my F40 on the Eiger racetrack and noticed that the gearstick is in the postion of whatever the cars gear is in.
Fantastic.
Also off-topic, loving the online portion of GT5, racing around the top gear track in freedrive with other drivers really does ffel like a club meet.
I really hope sony gives PD the time and funds to finely tune this game.
Give us the grand canyon rall track please.

http://www.gtplanet.net/gt-academy-usa-round-2-cancelled-gt5-update-incoming/

The start of round 3, previously scheduled to begin on February 14th, is now “subject to change” pending the next GT5 update, which has been confirmed to introduce more sophisticated corner-cutting and wall-banging detection mechanisms to “prevent this type of inappropriate driving”.

Though some with fast times at Rome and Madrid will be least pleased with this outcome, it is a wise decision to uphold the integrity of GT Academy while absolving SCEA from making subjective decisions about individual disqualifications. The awkward nature of the Rome and Madrid city courses were also particularly unsuited for such an important time-trial competition.

Players world-wide will now benefit from more reliable collision and corner-cutting detection, providing greater integrity in GT5’s online races and ensuring such a fiasco does not happen again when GT Academy returns to Europe.

New stuff was released:

And
GT series creator Kazunori Yamauchi gave an interesting speech at D.I.C.E. 2011 yesterday, titled “On Gran Turismo and I”. Hosted by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences, the D.I.C.E. (Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain) Summit is designed to “bring together the top video game designers and developers from around the world and business leaders from all major publishers to discuss the state of the industry, its trends and the future.”
