So the message didn't pop after removing the HD.

Note the build string: 10553.1020.amd64fre.th2_xbox_rel_1510.151003-2016

"th2" is "Threshhold 2" i.e. the "November" update of Windows 10, so this preview dash is ahead of the release windows 10. Current insider builds of Win 10, as per my PC, are at 10547, so with this being at build 10553 it would seem to be at the bleeding edge of Win 10 codebase (on the PC they appear to be gearing up for an release of 10558, or later, given this build has leaked).
I'm hopeful this settles any ridiculous discussion over NXOE being a forked windows 8.1

A string is just a string, it could relate to anything underneath. The point of XBOX moving to Win 10 is not really about the dashboard performace benefits (which could be driven by other means) but about MS having a simpler support structure and the ability to roll out updates (performance, security, etc.) more easily across more devices. While they could be "faking" this is Win 10 it is incongruous to think that.

Just the time necessary to be surpassed by google or apple

In AR the technology is not ready. VR is more mature but far from perfect. I was thinking VR will be a reality for PS5/Xbox 2. Magic Leap(AR) didn't show any product and a more limited product like Google Glass is far to be ready for consumer market.

Adjusted to the new ui very quickly. I don't really have any complaints. It's simple, and easy to find everything. It's also faster. It doesn't feel instant, but it's much better in that regard. The only problems I've had are bugs, but nothing in terms of usability yet. So far I've logged about five bugs. Some app crashes, some corrupted text. I'd say the ui is a good starting point going forward.

I hope apps can push notifications in the future. That would be nice with Universal apps. Also looking forward to Cortana.

Just don't turn on the ease of access speech thing, that has some wonky bugs! Now if I could just figure out how my twins are turning it on I will be ok. Somehow they find a controller, start playing with it (screen is off during this), and always get the right button presses for it. It is their new morning ritual, wake up, find where the oldest hid the controller, fight over it, then turn on ease of access. Does not matter who wins the controller battle, they both know how to activate it.

I then have to power on the projector, hope the console will be responsive and not say out-loud unkown/unsupported button press. (I just hard reboot it now). Great stuff!! ;)

Edit: If you want to annoy the spouse, turn it on - instant anger... ROFL

I think if you opted in you got it today. Updating now. I'm level 2. My friend is level 1. So I'm guessing everyone or nearly everyone is being updated today.

Hold Xbox Button (long press typically until controller vibrates) then press Menu Button to turn on.

Repeat again to turn off.

Or Windows Key and Enter for keyboard shortcut.

I got in Tuesday night. Haven't had much time to mess with it, but I'm already right at home with it. I do need to post on their forums about my installation woes though. I will say that I know they are really pushing the LT & RT to get to & from the Pins/Games/Apps but I don't know if I'm liking it. It was a lot easier juts pressing LEFT on the D-pad. Also switching from main game/app to snapped app sucks. I used the double-tap + LEFT & RIGHT allot. Other than that I really love the new Guide. Huge improvement. Just found it strange they don't have a Achievements icon like the Windows 10 app.

Yeah, Cortana is still there. :D

For whatever reason, if you go to the settings tab on the guide, you can move up once. Hit the A button a few times and you will snap cortana.

Great interview. I wouldn't say it's somber at all. He's just realistic about what the expectations are now.

He also reiterates they'll have keyboard and mouse on console at some point.

Beating Sony would mean they have to dominate the american market to make up for Europe and Japan, and that is very unrealistic with how well Ps4 performs in the american market right now. I think they just have to focus on supporting X1 and produce good games to keep the interest high + increase the player base and try not repeating the E3 2013 blunder for the next Xbox.
