Kind of amazing how big a turnaround things have been for Microsoft on the gaming side, both PC and Xbox since Phil Spencer took over.

This is a nice turn around from the Xbox foundation where they had a need to separate PC from console in order to give the console it's own identity.
But now that it has established itself as a console it no longer needs that seperation. Because Microsoft finally realise that most console gamers don't game on PC and most PC gamers don't game on console. There's some overlap, of course, but not a significant amount that the good will engendered by offering cross-platform games with cross-platform play would be diminished by potential sales lost to cross platform players.
Hopefully the other console maker's come to this realization as well. The last generation was the last generation where I plan to buy games on console and PC. Microsoft will still potentially make money off of me. But not so much the other two.
Although cross-platform licensing (getting one version if you buy the other version) might get me to still buy and play games on console if I also got the PC version (which would get the majority of my play time) along with it.
