yeah a Killer Instinct would be pretty cool too. Brings back memories, maybe they should bring back alot of the classics from the genesis/snes generation.

    Looks like it to me.

Different approaches i guess. Those 3 screens are kinda weird, the characters are quite far away and not really "PR shots" like the DOA ones, which all seem to be "shot for purpose", in that they look impressive because of what's happening on screen.

The lighting in VF5 makes DOA looks totally flat, but i do agree that the backgrounds are less impressive, which has always been the case since DOA2 anyway so i don't know why people are surprised.

The shading and the lighting in VF5 is way better than DOA4, saying otherwise is being blind.

As i've said, it will take me a long detox to buy another fighting game so i'm not really bothered, VF5 looks like VF4 on steroids, and i've litterally played VF4 to death and don't intend to spend any more money for the same-ish game in a loooong time.

They look horrible. Wax fighters that put DOA's doll fighters to shame. Low res textures, dull blurry environments and ugly character models.

I concur. The skin in the Tekken video looks crazy good. If a fighter could make people look like people like that instead of having the "cartoon/animation" sheen to them still...!

I don't see it yet. Not from their first time out.

(And indeed I wouldn't put too much focus on character close-ups with impressive textures right away, as they could certainly lean on extra resources in "demo" or "museum" modes to make model improvements that you won't get from in-game fighting.)

The Def Jam 3 images may be hard to make out, but they seem to have a better approach to skin shaders than VF5 right now. Unless you're fighting in a big barrel of oil or it's raining cats and dogs out, understated is better.

Games tend to go crazy with the "shiny-shine" in general, but IMHO it's at its' worst when you do it to human skin.

The game is really looking great. I hope it can make it as a launch title.

I don't really like new Goh character. But oh well... All the other characters look awesome. And they still have a lot more time left to work on it.

:( Seems like we can't get a really great looking next-gen fighting game. I like these characters a bit more than DoA (and thats not saying much), but the environments are blander (again not saying much).

Come on Tekken....or Killer Instinct....someone is going to show these guys how its done.

Just to give some perpective. This is what VF4 looked like. I think everyone should conceed that VF5 is a mightly leap forward even they don't feel it's perfect.

Backgrounds look better on VF but characters should look like the skin in FN3...

    We need a Sega Icon!

Show some respect to Virtua Fighter, folks!

This game tops my most wanted list!

Yu Suzuki should be working on this, though, and not on some uninteresting MMORPG.

Yeah I remember those, cant wait to see what the final version will look like. I hope it still has the lighting style of the previous Def Jam. Dont get me wrong, I never liked the way EA does the lighting now adays with their titles (most wanted anyone?), but the previous Def Jam was on point imo. :)

That picture isn't what Virtua Fighter 4 looks like; that's the PS2 port which had to be scaled down all around and to half of the character detail. The NAOMI2 original still looks impressively dynamic in motion from all of the complex spotlights it sustains.

And if it does look like that I will be very happy. Just throw a little sweat on him (like Xbox 360's NBA 2K6) and viola you have a great looking fighter.
