To me it looks like a big difference. VF5 fighters' skin, from these shots (in this thread) looks plasticy.

I think many buyers like "shiny" look (which I do not like) and this is why everything is shiny in too many games. Kameo also has too much shiny look on everything! It is crazy and must reduce. Many games like COD2 do not have this problem so I think this is design choice and so maybe it is because of crazy designer.

Also, VF5 character model is not perfect. Look at wrist band and you can see not so round but with CELL this is no problem. Many things are better with CELL but what I am not sure is bandwidth for GPU of Lindbergh to main memory for textures. Main memory is 1GB! If bandwidth is good then maybe Lindbergh texture ability are better than PS3. I am not sure.

I would think that has more to do with art then "Whoa teh PS3 can't do that ever!!!"

The 1GB of main memory has nothing too do with VF5 per-se, it’s the general specification carried across all the Lindbergh arcade hardware. Just look at After Burner and the other Sega arcade games using Lindbergh hardware (same specs) just different applications. And by the way those other Lindbergh titles look like sh** (most of them anyway).

OMG!!! Check out the texture of the pants. The lighting is amazing and the muscle definition is crazy. I'm seriously starting to think the Tekken video is possible now.

Notice the texture of her pants. It's crazy that they can make it look soft like that.

Oh and Idagaki that's what self shadowing looks like.

You're so shocked by muscle definition and textures :?:

Where have you been?

Also neither one of these games look anywhere near the quality of that Tekken CG.

Everyone knows that DOA4 has a Barbie Doll look. It's accepted as such. And imo while the Tekken video looks better than VF5, it gives me hope that Namco can/may get very close to that video.

Vanessa has gone pop!

Gone Michael Jackson to be specific. :)

But yeah, this honestly pisses me off some. AM2 thought she had too much melanin for Japanese audiences or something? Ugh.

I was looking forward to this game untill I heard it won't be online enable (I hate AI competition). I hope the next Tekken won't go on the same direction.

Do what I do, force one of your gaming buddies to learn the game so you have someone competitive to play with. ;)

And the AI aint bad at all in VF4's Kumite mode, its by far the best the genre has ever seen. Can really keep you on your toes in the later levels and help you practice your favorite characters.

Unfortunately the game is so balanced on frame precision input and movement I doubt we'll see an online Virtua Fighter until everyone has fiber optic connections. As long as its still selling AM2 isnt going to compromise their baby for a less than nigh perfect online translation.

Currently, fiberoptic lines are already quite common in Japanese households. All the major providers have been doing a major push to get the remaining ADSL/Cable users to switch to fiber. The lines only cost only $30-$40 a month. In metropolitan areas, all the other forms of broadband are quickly vanishing.

The Tekken CGI is lightyears ahead of that.
Tekken 5 has sweat shaders, what appears to be subsurface scattering, and a nice set of skin shaders. But all of that stuff is being done or approximated in the NBA launch titles on the X360. I see no reason why the Tekken teaser couldn't be done in realtime on the X360 or PS3.

does VF5 have it?
NBA2k6 does. ;)

Damnit, don't tell me that you can't see a difference between NBA 2K6 closeup shots and Tekken5 CGI pictures... has everyone lost their mind here?

I'm just sitting back and laughing. Maybe techniques are being used that are the same but in no way are the visual fidelities of Tekken Tech Demo and NBA2K6 the same.

Tekken has 2 people on screen compared to 10. At bare minimum, they can spend 5 times the poly budget on the characters, all things being equal. I'm also sure they could allocate the extra verts from the stadiums to stages.

That said, what exactly about that Tekken teaser seemed to impossible? The geometry clearly is within reach. The textures didn't seem ridiculous by any means. The only thing I noticed was the cloth and muscle animations. Maybe you can elaborate on what put it over the top moreso than say...what we saw in the Blue Dragon clips, which you seemed less hesitant about. PEACE.

Kinda reminds me of what FCK looked like in the initial screen shots (in terms of materials and skin). Actually, the fabric for akira looks more like how those jerseys looked in Madden 06 for the 360.

The fabric is perfect. My karate kimono is exactly like that.

Not everyone, but lot's of people has lost their minds, or they didn't have one to begin with. Tekken 5 CGI and VF5 are clearly two worlds apart from each other, and to say otherwise just shows the lack of knowledge that has infiltrated this forum lately.

Why do people always post pics of DOA for The game hardly shows any difference at all when compared to the x-box version.

Not even Fight Night 3 has as much geometry detail as that Tekken5 character, not to mention the textures. Have you seen the close-up of the face??
And then there's the usual texture filtering, antialiasing, lighting and shading quality that's far beyond anything realtime...

Texture resolution, polygon count, steam effects, water effects, lighting and generally everything else that needs to be rendered offline. Somone who creates CGI for a living said the textures used just for the guys face would be too big to fit in the Xbox360's memory.
