Somehow I'm not thinking so... At least not in the US. It looks a little TOO weirdly stylized.

I'm sure a few dozen of us would love it, though. ;)

Woot, I never played the first DC, but DC2 is easily one of my favorite games on PS2 thus far. Hopefully they'll keep the nice cell shading and add some more vareity to the level generator hehe.

Oh, no. If they make a Devil May Cry ripoff, I will bomb their offices. Keep Cloud in the RPGs, thanks.

False. Dark Odyssey was the codename for SCEA's new game 'God of War', which btw. looks bone chillingly awesome :)

He was already in a fighting game. <shrugs> Why would it matter?

I just don't think Square needs to make a DMC ripoff. If they were going to make one, Sephy would be better for it, lol. His fighting style in FF7 was faster, IIRC.

I was checking the Release Dates schedule looking to see if any games were announced, delayed or worst yet cancelled.I scroll and see Street Racing Syndicate fro Gamecube.Well the thing is I get newsletters from Namco and when they mentioned SRS they listed it as a PS2 and Xbox game but not Gamecube.Could you clear this up please?

Matt responds: It's still coming for GameCube. Someone on the IGN Boards asked this very same question and a Namco representative replied. This is the official response:

Thanks for the email. We just wanted to let you know that SRS has not been cancelled for Nintendo GameCube. It will be available for all three platforms, and I think you will be impressed with all of the improvements that Namco has made to the game by giving it extra development time. We will be updating the product information page on the Namco web site to reflect this, and we will be releasing more exciting information about the game over the next few months.

I can't help it but I get the feeling that magicbox has quite deteriorated lately...

EDIT: quote repaired

Been playing some more of Siren lately. I know, I got this since last year, but I'm a busy man. I'm making a personal resolve to purchase no more than 4 titles per year.

Back to Siren.

It's a stealth game as much as a horror game. In fact, in certain aspects it may well be a better stealth game than either MGS or SC.

Surprise.

It acheived this by implementing a design that was lacking in the other 2 - enemies have true line-of-sight, not a restricted view that extends only a few feet in front of them. This is what a stealth game really is. If you can see the enemy, they can see you. Many times they can see you even when you haven't seen them - the shibito seems to have better vision than the player characters in the fog and the dark. Siren has definitely raised the bar for stealth games.

Remarkable. Siren isn't just a game for horror fans. Stealth-gaming fans definitely need to pick this up as well.

Siren is a highly recommended game, it may be difficult, though.

Siren a must buy?
Always a matter of taste and preference(Don't we hate this kind of answer?). It is a very good entry in the horror and stealth genre. But there are points that may not appeal to everyone.

How does it compare to SH/FF
SH has become very combat-oriented. You can say that FF is also combat-oriented - just that it takes a different form of expression. Siren is quite, or may I say very combat-unfriendly. The point being that players are not supposed to be able to beat nasties about, but are supposed to be fightened and running and hiding from them. Will gamers have issues with no londer being a gung-ho monster killer in a horror-filled scenario?

Stealth is unique to Siren, not present in the other 2. You can even say it is the main gameplay element.

SH's horror design is more "western", "modern", "disturbing". FF's design is "traditional" and "pretty". Siren's design is more similar to what Jap horror movies do.

Some more points/observations:

1) It is not an easy game.

2) Enemies have true line-of-sight, and very, very good eyesight.

3) Plenty of tense situations, where you can spent a long time watching the enemies' routines, just so to time that 5 sec interval when everyone is looking the other way.

4) There are many scenarios where characters are unarmed. Discovered = game over.

5) Characters are no warriors. They take a substantial pause between each attack to ready themselves again. Definitely a deliberate design decision. Don't entertain the idea of defeating everything in the area "to get it over with". The odds are against the characters.

6) Besides, a defeated shibito is resurrected by the red water. I didn't actually do timing, but it literally takes no more than 5 minutes for a fallen shibito to get up again. Moving slowly after defeating one shibito is not a good idea. Move away quickly, but make sure the characters know what's in front...

7) This can lead to some tense situations, when a character needs to reach a certain location to perform an action, but a number of shibitos are crawling around. Characters have to time their movements carefully to defeat the enemies around the area, then perform the action, then get the h*** out of there before the fallen piles nearby start moving again.

Big question: How to do a proper "Superman game"? Many development studios have tried, but the best efforts are usually not outstanding enough.

Will Team Sonic's Astroboy be the first good superhero game? The promotion video looks quite impressive. Anyone know who are the people working on this?

Windows streaming media, 56K unfriendly.

Preferably with control as intuitive and flying as fluid as NiGHTS.

People mostly come over from UGA, with advisement and consultation from the Home Team of Sonic Team Japan.

On to more SEGA stuff, I was disappointed with the geometric build of the PS2 version of Virtua Racing. It doesn't look quite like the 32X version as some had feared, but it definitely looks lower poly and not as nicely shaded (shading as in the use of darker colors to convey depth/angle/position of certain polys) compared to the arcade version. This can easily be seen in the pulled-back views where the road changes color at a single line too abruptly or on the complexity of the canyon in the background. For the arcade purists, they'll notice the differences in this just like they did when they spotted differences in the remade VF1 models of PS2 VF4 Evo.

Here are the arcade Virtua Racing shots, compiled by Megadrive1988:

Onto a happier subject, I know fans will start anticipating Xbox2 in 2005 (whether it launches in 2006 or not), but I think the first Xbox will see some great things around that time too:

When SEGA revisited the legend of Panzer Dragoon, Orta wasn’t the only new tale to be told. It’s obvious they weren’t planning to stop at just the shooter when you consider the determination they would’ve needed to construct such elaborate worlds and diverse ecosystems, the care they took bringing Panzer-style inhabitants and environments back so authentically, and how extensively they explored the lore of the series in Orta (the backstory and its various ages).

If you found yourself playing through the game or looking through its encyclopedia and lamenting how all of that detail will end up underappreciated within the confines of an overlooked shooter, remember SEGA’s words at the Orta announcement which mentioned that Xbox gamers would be the “first†to re-enter the magical world of Panzer Dragoon with PDO.

I can’t wait for Panzer Dragoon Saga 2 (Genos: Panzer Dragoon RPG in Japan - or whatever subtitle it’ll end up using) on Xbox in 2005.
