Does normal TV matter at all anymore? I get it for sport events but here I even mostly watch NBA games on a pad/laptop. My big screen TV is only used for games or films. Political disinformation/news and the other fluff shows + ads are not part of my media experience anymore.

evidently it is not the tv itself nor just the shows.. it is the interactivity that is key here... adding multiple windows on top so rather than having a laptop open while watching you can multitask all of your needs even gaming during commercials for example without missing the content or extra info like stats and fantasy and socializing all on the big screen and all voice/ gesture activated

the fact that they didn't dwell on specs shows that what will sell to people are not those minute details but the user experience and that it definitely will run the same games on the same playing field as the competition. only forum warriors care on that front, this was unveiling a redefined experience for the future...

"game machines" are dead... long liv the entertainment machine

Yeah Nintendo thought so as well and their stock took a nose-dive after the Wii U's announcement because the world+dog figured it wouldn't be an actual next-gen console because of the lack of specs.

What the lack of specs means is pretty much conclusive.

Is anyone being able to see that Major Nelson twitch video feed? Isn't that feed supposed to bring more closure on hardware specs?

I liked the first part of the show. The OS looks awesome. The instant switching between apps, games, etc. But the game part left me wanting for more. I understand they don't want to blow their load today & want to show more at E3. Lack of specs wasn't much of a surprise, but wished they had more details. Can understand if the leak was spot on. As for machine, controller, etc: machine looked bland. Was disappointed there was no upgrade to new functionality to the controller. Would have been neater to see something new like a touchscreen or touchpad. No Illumiroom, not surprising, they will probably launch it year 2 or 3 to refresh it like Kinect did. No backward compatibility was disappointing. How are they going to transition existing customers & games? Is there going to be a new 360 system or not? Maybe all these unanswered questions will be answered at E3? Just kinda feel slightly bummed & cheated. :( Countdown to E3 started.

100W -> no way more than 12 CUs.

that wording makes no sense. are there going to different soc's in different xbox's? hardly.

unless they meant to say system power draw will vary by scenario, but can go up to 100 watts...

overall i doubt this will clock in at just 100 watts. but i suppose it's lightly plausible based on a hd 7770 running a 80w tdp.

oh yes, chatting with my FB friends while watching TV all using my XBOX... iPad anyone ?

BTW, was reading through the Engadget article. So Microsoft claimed they have 200 people working on IC design aka the SoC and used AMD primarily as "partner". Makes no sense to me. Sounds more like they are buying naked dies from AMD, do the packaging with the DRAM die and decided to do the bring-up and testing in-house (including the production testing). Maybe they even handle the fabbing themselves. So all AMD does is sending them a GDS2 layout file and getting royalties or maybe even a one-time fee.

I think the second-install fee is a fair move. You can still borrow it from a friend and play it cheaper than if you were to buy it new, or buy it used if you really want to.

Lets hope they can patch it out so we don't have a whole generation of games that doesn't exist when they shutdown the activation servers. Sigh, my worst fears have been confirmed..

What a horrible marketing team.

Is it a game console, or a PVR that happens to also play games on the side?
