Killzone 2 pre-release discussion thread

Well, I'm talking specifically about the dust the ship blows. It dissappears too abruptly.

We have seen longer swirl effects in Corinth River (If I remember the name correctly). I don't know how well made the animated GIF is. It basically chopped the actual video into spaced out frames. So I don't think you want to judge the duration or subtlety based on it... unless you intend to play in the animated GIF ^_^

You shoot the flags with a rocket and the explosion would light them on fire and cause them to burn, not sure how you can stop something from burning by shooting at it.
I agree. I guess I misunderstood you. It seemed like you were stating it did something you thought was inappropriate, when I read it. Sorry.

Hopefully it lives up to the hype.

So far so good.

I think for a game as big as Killzone 2 is, Sony would rather start the party early and get people excited for the game, let the great word of mouth begin, it's not like they're going for a stealth release here, they can do the one week thing to all their other shooters but Killzone 2? It's too huge a deal for them and definitely the game is too good to wait until a week before release.

What caused me to comment was simply that I don't think I recall formal reviews ever coming out this early in the online media; nearly two months in advance now of a trickle-out review stream. It's bizarre IMO, whatever the motives. This is the kind of game I would expect to have a concurrent and massive review release at one time, whatever that time might be (though probably not so far in advance).

I agree, but I trust user reviews here more than professional reviews.

I feel it will be a great game, but let's say I'm being a little bit pessimistic so that I can be pleasantly suprised :)

Personally, I only trust my own gaming experience, but a lot of other people go by the professional reviews. Here's to pleasant surprises (though half the gameplay is on the net). *raises glass*

A lot of the reviews seem to say that it's not particularly innovative in terms of design or gameplay (or story) but end up giving it a 9 anyway, which is interesting.

Show's you the difference top notch graphics can make to title.

Tactical gameplay which isn't as arcadey as COD4, would plug a gap in my shooter collection nicely though.

I think the problem is that Sony has to get rid of the Killzone 1 stigma. I know a few people who are still wary about KZ2 because of 1, they need to let people know 'wait, this is actually good', they probably can't rely on hype pushing massive preorders like GeoW2 or GTA4.

I think Killzone 2 is one of very few console releases that has the retail copy finished way before the game is out, and can thus release it to reviewers early, so that even all the magazines can have reviews out on or even before release date. If you've followed the game in development, its relation to Resistance 2, etc., then I think you'll see how this makes a lot of sense.

I will certainly want to get it if it does have KB+M support. Otherwise I'll probably wait. It is a very good looking game and reviewers seem to be coming to the conclusion that, while it doesn't innovate, it represents the best of all of the innovations that have come out in prior FPSs.

Are there any PS3 FPS games that actually supports KB+M?

the demo goes live in a few days , the 3rd I believe. I'm waiting on that to see if i'm going to buy the game or not. I'm a bit shootered out playing l4d , crysis war head , gears 2 , cod ww. I will most likely buy it cause a few friends that only have ps3s will buy it and i don't get to play with them online oten

A game doesnt need to be particularly innovative to be great. The impression i got from the reviews i have read (ign and eurogamer) is not that its the graphics that make it great but the actual gameplay, the central combat and enemy AI is supossedly exellent.
If you take say COD4 and add clever AI you would have a much better game than it is already, you can improve on a proven formula without innovation as long as you improve the core mechanics.
I realy like how the reviews ive seen arnt putting too much emphasis on graphics, it looks like its actually going to be a great game underneath its stunning looks.

Yeah, the Eurogamer review suggests that the real star of Killzone 2 is the AI, since the HGHs have very dynamic and unpredictable behaviours. The higher difficulty settings are said to be utterly brutal and relentless in terms of AI tenacity and resilience.

I missed the last 48hrs where reviews were released and such. Does anyone have links to SP movies that are/are not in HD?
