Japan Sales Thread

Well, maybe all the PSP games in the top 10, but that's unlikely to last.

Not like this maybe but I think it's setting a trend. The PSP has been selling well this year in Japan and even now is 200.000 sales ahead of the DS/DSi. Normally this wouldn't necessarily mean that software for the system is also picking up, but the Monster Hunter social gaming trend is putting PSP games back on the map for third parties more than anything and I think what you see in this list is actually representative of the PSP regaining popularity as a gaming system. Of course its presence in the top 10 is skewed because there's a much smaller amount of games being released versus the DS in comparison to the amount of units both systems have out there. But the PSP can do some things the DS can't, and when people are looking for something new after three years of DS, the PSP can be an attractive alternative with a lot of extra media features.

MS will surely break 1m in japan this time.

I think its very important for ms to shrink the console. A smaller console in japan couldh elp sales greatly

I honestly don't even think they have to do that. With Magna Carta 2 coming out, and the bundles they're putting out for RE5 and SO4, I think they've already done all they need to break 1 Million in Japan, and then some.

You know the PS3 is outselling the 360 in Japan as well. The PS3 is freaking huge.

Yea but the ps3 is the follow up to two 100m + selling systems. The 360 is a follow up to one 500k selling system.

The ps3 also has bluray which seems to be more popular in japan than anywhere else. I think that a smaller 360 will make it easier for people to pick up esp with the price diffrence . AAlso the ps3 isn't exactly selling gang busters either and neither is it selling consistantly well. We are talking about 2.6m units vs 800k units. Its not like we are talking about the 21.4m vs 500k of the ps2 vs xbox 1

You're not comparing like values there. Not that it makes any difference to the argument mind, but still, XB was 500k in Japan. PS2 was 20 million. So the difference was a market 40 times larger, not 200 times larger. Again, not that that makes any difference!

Then what? They will keep selling around 8k units per week just like they are doing now.

You can get to any number by consistently selling small numbers, but what's the point when competition gets there way faster?

Milestones don't mean jack. Average/Monthly sales do.
