How Do We Know that the PS3 Will Be 100% Backwards Compatible

As was mentioned before, Sony had actual PSX hardware in the PS2 to facilitate b/c. Do they have the same thing in place for the PS3?

As Shifty was saying, Ken did say that the PS2 used software emulation to get BC with the PSone. It seems they are going with hardware and software with the PS3 too just like they did with the PS2.

Well we do know how good of a job Sony did with the PS2 BC. Shouldn't we respect history and feel it's going to be the same this time around too. You know Ken hasn't told us everything.

All we know is they did not get a 100% compatibilty . This time they have 2 systems to emulate / provide partial hardware solutions for

I'm not saying they wont come close but since they admit to software emulation why is it that people believe sony will come closer in thier goal than ms ?

Because they've talked big enough, and MS hasn't. Maybe they'll have 0% bc. Anything can happen, but given what they've said so far, Sony seems far more confident in delivering the goods, and MS has yet to step up and keep them honest on it. So far, MS has been losing the backwards compat. PR war. It may be that they don't want a fight and are keeping humble, or it could be that Sony's simply got it over them in that department, and they know that engaging in a war of words will be more damaging than just not saying anything at all. PEACE.

all your doing is assuming .

We shall see when its launched how well thier bc works out of the box

And you are not making assumptions?

You keep saying they didn't hit 100% backward compatibility, as if to say they were way of the mark, when in fact it was pretty much 99%. Please stop making it into an issue.

jvd:

Sony has claimed b/c with over 13000 games. Whether that translates to 100% b/c or not is irrelevant. That is a huge number of games and Sony wouldn't claim that number if they weren't confident they'll achieve that. You can rest assured that Sony will test the most popular game franchises to ensure that they're working with the PS3.

MS on the other hand is much more vague on the subject and rightly so. It is harder to emulate xbox games even on the xbox 360 for a number of reasons:

1) The games for the xbox are made with the assumption there's a harddrive in every unit because HDD was standard in the xbox which is not the case with xbox 360.

2) The xbox is way more complicated to emulate than the PS2 and certainly the PS1. It has the most advanced GPU this gen which is made by a different vendor than next gen xbox. Well behaved xbox games (direct x) will be easier than games that are done "more to the metal". The PS2 in comparison has a much more simple GPU and the CPU, emotion engine, is doing most of the calculations. Emulating the emotion engine on cell shouldn't even make the cell microprocessor break a sweat. Details have yet to be announced, though.

Just get over it, jvd!

I find almost no reason to agree with that. The PS2 is far more complicated than the Xbox is. Hasn't this been fact for years now? Besides, emulating a multiprocessor CPU (EE) on another multiprocessor CPU (Cell) has to make for some really difficult problems.

Sony has never claimed when it will have b/c with over 13000 games .

Not directly:
Sony said:
In 1994, SCEI launched the original PlayStation® (PS), followed by PlayStation®2 (PS2) in 2000 and PlayStation®Portable (PSP®) in 2004, every time introducing the latest advancement in technology and bringing innovation to interactive entertainment software creation. Over 13,000 titles have been developed by now, creating a software market that sells more than 250 million copies annually. PS3 offers backward compatibility enabling gamers to enjoy these enormous assets from PS and PS2 platforms.

However there is no ambiguous "top selling" or "most popular" in the statement, but dont let this stop your FUD crusade.

Nor is there a when we will be able to enjoy these titles .

It doesn't say out of the box or on launch day .

Mabye now you will stop your fud campian

Either you dont understand what FUD is, or you have become some hilarious self parody. I fear it may be too late to save you jvd.

Either way, I have to say that post has just been the highlight of my day.

These are screenshots from Sony's press conference at E3 2005. Case closed.

Now, before you post a silly answer. Consider this: Sony delivered b/c out of the box with the PS2. Why wouldn't they do the same with PS3? Remember, PS3 was designed with b/c in mind from the very beginning.

Err

I can take a snip of voice from alard saying the xbox 360 wil lbe the most powerfull console. Is that case closed ?

How do we even know what comming sping 2006 refers too . I believe it refers to ps3 and now bc .

I mean how moronic are you ?

I'm done with this thread

Well..the coming 2006 could be in reference to the release date of the PS3 and not exactly BC. But I believe that BC will be out of the box for all those titles...how they do it is a mystery to me but I also believe they have an easier time since the actual GPU of the PSX/2 are Sonys and aren't estranged from from a company that could help them with BC.

Thats an opinion and "Power" can be interpreted in many different ways....but Backward Compatabiltiy is either there..or it isn't.

Thats just mean.

There are varying degrees of bc

As for it being mean. I'm tired of newbie trolls posting like they are the second coming and posting stupid meaningless things .

If i wanted to vist a sony forum i would go to psinext or ign.com ps3 forums .

jvd:

I really think you should go watch a video of Sony's press conference at E3, consider that PS2 delivered b/c out of the box and then re-read this thread. I think you will have to re-evaluate your opinion on what could be considered as "stupid and meaningless".

Are you comparing a PR comment of J Allard with Sony's backward compatibility, that up until now has not let any one down, hell the reason MS has backward compatibility is PS2 and PS3.

Let me put it this way,the xbox 360 will be the most powerful console when it hit that is true but to a point, now MS is a master of this things, like when they say 1 billion, and the change it and say they only mean to get the over all consoles number to that point,to the joe average person the massage was clear...

Bakcward compaitbility should no be question not on PS console,we know it work not 100% but very near that number,it is say that hardware and software will be use, which is kind of what happen with the PS2 and PS1.

Also there is no need for insult, more when he prove you wrong.

I've already watched it , many times actually and never once do they say they will have all 13k titles working at launch out of the box .

If you care to find where they say it that I may have missed then we can talk . Till then your paper thin defense is meaning less and stupid
