Gran Turismo Sport [PS4]

Greatly looking forward to it. :)

GTPlanet interviewed Yamauchi about the new thrustmaster wheel for GT-Sport, and he confirmed it's a direct drive motor. A linear signal-to-torque is a big deal, I think the only one that exists is the $2000 AccuForce SimXperience.

There are way too many things to purchase in 2016! My credit card is not ready. :runaway:
Kazunori Yamauchi talked to GTPlanet about the wheel giving some interesting insights. Firstly, Yamauchi makes note that this wheel will be ‘Direct Drive’ – meaning that the motor shaft is directly linked to the wheel itself without the use of belts and gears. A main positive in Kazunori’s eyes for this is that “It generates high torque from the motor, and the torque is stable.”. The stability of the torque is something Polyphony found important, pointing out that there are no wheels currently on the market that have a linear torque pattern, which is something the new GT Sport wheel will look to include.

“I always felt with other wheels that something was wrong – that something was off. When we actually used the torque meter to measure the torque on those other steering wheels, there were some that had a high peak but would then drop off – they would only give the torque in spikes. So we went and redesigned it so that the torque delivery is linear.

Even when you play with the wheel for hours at a time, the torque delivery will remain stable.”

“Balance and Precision” is what to expect from this wheel when it hits stores. Currently, there is no release window but one could assume we will see this wheel launch within the same window as GT Sport itself.

Fair to assume that PD are still using tessellation for car geometry judging by those screenshots or very high poly count for each car

Thats photomode and probably the mode which is especially designed for making artistic photos.
That mode traditionally used super high LOD that wasnt present in the gameplay sections in GT5 and GT6.
But the attention to detail is mindblowing.
They even modeled the rings on the second image

the level of detail is insane, actually. Details like those pieces protruding from the car with the Proxes decal. I don't think people are going to ever see that ingame, but GT keeps impressing people. We are more used to it these days, so I don't expect the "gran" devotion of the GT4 era but still...

Actually with photomodes and photo sharing built into the game, this is possibly the first time GT's detail will really be appreciated!

GT5 already had such details ... From some of my own favorite shots:

GT5 was good but they used adaptive tessellation in GT6 and made the closeup shots even more impressive. I think the only other racing game using adaptive tessellation for car models is the latest NFS.

But there is photomode in GT6 :)
Yes, but it was harder to share images. People are sharing PS4 screenshots and photomodes left, right and centre because sharing is part of the system. Just as the photomodes of old GTs show the limitations of the game models, PS4's GT photomode will show the astonishing, CG-level realism in the models and we'll all see lots and lots of images.

I'll not be surprised if this game will be one of Neo flagship title (basically a game that has a Neo mode). This game will be PSVR showcase and Neo showcase....
or maybe the real reason for the delay is because you guys complained about the audio and now they want to be the best car engine audio simulator with 22.2 channel, hrtf, binaural, dolby, thx, trueaudio support.

If I were sony I would have made them do a quick and lazy port of the last ps3 Gran Turismo for ps4 just to have the game there before having polyphony even start thinking about their "true next-gen" title. This thing will still take years to come out.
