Gran Turismo 5 - gameplay only thread

I wonder why do people complain about the GT AI so much, I mean its pretty much just like Forza 3 (as the video posted few pages ago proves) and that game was instead praised for its AI. Is it because GT5 has 16 cars which makes for quite a number of instances where they bump into each other around tight corners ?

I think its may be just them living in the past. Previous gt's had on rails ai which would do the same thing no matter what is infront of them.

I never cared gt is the best racing game in my book, always has been ai or not
I don't get the UI hate as well, its elegantly laid out and its full of detail/information the only problem with it (and a big one) is that its very slow....it would've been awesome if the menus loaded instantly after you click something.

The Load times on the menu is IMO extremely irritating cuz they are to long.menu stuff should be instant. Loading for races is of course fine!Even though when I stated this in the gt5p thread I got jumped by people claiming they are just like any other game.

Did someone lend you a Countach yet? I have a fully tuned Countach that I used for that race that I can lend you. I have no idea how to do that, though.

That be great mate. Just add my PSN tag "Anthonynputson", then gift the car.

Thanks in advance

I think you can gift a car to a friend (1 car per day). When he's done, he'll give it back to you. Look for the "Gifting" button/icon.

You also have the option 'Share Online' - I think with that option you can also share a car with your friends? I have to test though - it could be that this only works online. But if it does work, it is safer, as in theory if you gift and get it back, a friend could dent it. :D

What's the thing about denting the car? If you smash up your car, does it stay smashed in the offline career mode? I haven't really checked this, as I always only race from cockpit view and you don't see much damage there. Even then, damage seems to be turned off in all (offline) races.

When playing with tha_con the other day though, I did go through some effort to smash up my car. Interestingly, when going into the pits it will repair mechanical damage, but the dents and deformation of the chassis stayed, even when going from free-run into race. I didn't check though if the car was still visually damaged when entering an offline race in the career mode or when you go into someone elses lobby...

Found this trick that should allow you to send a 'copy' of your car if your smart (can only do this 1 per day):

http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=140423&page=6

***UPDATE NOTICE***
You can't send multiple cars anymore even with this trick because PD limited it to 1/account/day!
Try at your own risk, you'll probably end up losing cars!
This stands as long as proven otherwise.
***

Hello everyone.

Are you annoyed of the one car per day limit? I think there is a solution:
-After choosing what car to send to your friend in the community section, press "ok" like you normally do.
-Wait for the "operation complete" confirmation. The game autosaves now. DON'T press the ok-button on this screen! Just quit the game by pressing the PS-button.
-Start your game again and you are ready to repeat this as many times as you want!

Notice that you can do this only when you haven't yet gifted your first car of the day.

Done. I guess we already added each other (I'm guessing back when the Academy demo was released). I just don't log in that often because I never play online.

The Countach only has 493hp (I think some of the cars in that race have 700+HP), but it's fairly light and handles pretty good with the wing and downforce on the rear maxed. To be honest, I only used this car for the Cote dAzur race and found it to be fairly easy. I used a Race Modified Z28 for the Deep Forest race, so I dunno how the Countach will fair in that one, but I'm assuming fairly well, as DF also has a lot of turns and few straights, and it's in the turns that you gain time on the higher powered cars

The only review that matters (its just part 1, part 2 will be coming next month):

They seem to love the menus/UI.
Though they are disappointed about lack of mechanical damage, but hey its coming in a patch atleast.

Maybe it's not the UI -although many racing games should learn from EA's Need for Speed Hot Pursuit in that regard- or the AI.

I have a theory about why some reviews undeservedly bashed the game with not so good scores (I really expected a 95+ as an average before the game came out) and that was maybe because Sony wanted the game out before Christmas and PD used a lot of recycled material.

Meaning the difference between premium and standard cars assets.

I also think that, from now on, racing games should use some kind of variation of the Autolog system developed by EA in NFS Hot Pursuit. It adds a lot of fun to the game and it works really well.

I am in my early thirties and my priorities regarding racing games have changed, but while I don't play as much sims as I did back in the day I expected better scores for GT5. Not that I mind scores much but GT5 is the flagship of PlayStation 3, and while there are great exclusive games on the console, this is the game that should deserve a 9.5-10. Such a mammoth project deserved more, but anyways.

Some reviewers tend to get in on charm and not out of any true qualifications, whether or not they have played the game intensively. Reviewers are also held to much higher accountability than users, so there is that as well.

I think Sony may have pushed PD to release it by Christmas, but TBH, at the same time, it should be done by now and the game still lacks the polish previous GT games had.

Not that I'm complaining... I've said many times how much I love this game. I just think that the game is near perfect and easily could have been improved. I also think that the game still deserves at least a 9 and I honestly want to punch the reviewers that rate it below a 7 in the face... that's how much love I have for this game.

So I'm curious, on the special event that lets you race the Nurburgring in that older Mercedes, what kind of times are you guys getting on the last event, the one which lets you race the complete track? I'm curious how far behind you guys I am.

Oh you'll be ahead of me fer sure. My SL300 was doing acrobatics throughout the complete loop. Miraculously, I bronzed it -- barely.

Beginner : 9:03.454
Intermediate : 7:31.274
Advanced : 9:48.742

I've yet to unlock expert. These we're just first tries, and good for silver.

9:29 on my one time making the event.. yes room for improvement :)

Thanks patsu.

Yeah, notice you an hour ago. Forgot to mention I sourced another Lambo and did DF 2nd time of asking. I'd already done Monaco with the 69 Camaro. In the Market for a race car now lol!

7:12. 8 secs away from gold. Totting up my individual sectors in the earlier tests, the theoretical lap would be a 7:02

The Beginner challenge? I just checked my beginner time and I got 9:00:973 on my second or third attempt. I'll check my other times later (have to go to work soon). I somewhat rushed through the challenges as I just wanted to unlock the track in practice mode. This was also back when I only had raced Nurburgring a handful of times. I know the track much better now.

@Antan, haha. I guess you can only lend 1 car per day. Plus I need most of my faster cars as I'm working my way through b-spec mode saving up for a F1 car for the race in Extreme. Hopefully someone else can help ya out.

btw, I think joker454 is asking about the Beginner challenge, in which gold is 8:49.

I have tried it only once yet, got a 9:26:060 apparently (I settled for silver for my first attempts unless they gave me a car or track I wanted/needed for an event). Have now started turning them to gold. My holiday starts tonight though, so I'll put it on my to-do list :)

Ah ok. Yeah the one a day is a wee bit stingy. I've 1.2m but am at the point now where I need to make inroads into building a fortune of around the 4m figure. I'm only 20k short of level 24 where the Dream Car tournie opens up, and Endurance races of course.

I have 3.2m saved up, a few championships to go still and I haven't done any grinding yet. I think I will chase some more special events (a few more to go and a bunch of golds) and see if that brings me close enough to the money needed for the FGT. Little over halfway level 23 still.

I've done a lot of credit farming, mostly in b-spec. I currently have ~5.8m. I find that doing the second race (forget the name of the track) in 'Like the Wind" with the Toyota Minolta Race car (the one you win from this event) is a good and quick way to save up credits. You only get 70k, but with the Minolta race car, it only takes me ~3:30 to win the 5 lap race.
