Formula 1 - 2012 Season

Great race by Kobayashi on home soil. Surprisingly good race by Massa, if he could just get the consistency of old he'd be a great second driver at Ferrari, with Alonso driving for the drivers championship and Massa raking in points for the constructors'.

Other than that a pretty dull race, IMHO.

Cheers

Can't see past Vettel now. Interesting to see that McLaren didn't try to get Hamilton past Button as well...I wonder if that would have been the case had it not been for other events this week.

One theory is that Button could still get 3rd, so it could potentially be a 3rd and 5th for McLaren. Maybe if Button didn't race anyone, he would let Hamilton pass.

Performance of Massa was sick, wonder what Alonso could have achieved!

Um... 2nd? Probably 5th. Button is a bit faster, but Massa benefitted from having to start on fresher types, thus at the end of the first stint he still got rubber left while Button and Kobayashi need to stop. Because of that, Massa can run longer and avoid being stuck behind TR.
The way I see it, if Alonso were behind Massa after the 1st lap, Massa would need to give way to Alonso, and Alonso would be on a similar tyre situation to Button and Kobayashi, thus the order between them would be similar, and Massa probably would be behind those train thus finished in 5th (because his obligation to help Alonso).
So, at best Alonso could finished in 2nd, realistically, between 4th and 5th. Massa had been awesome on Suzuka all weekend.

I feel a bit sorry for Grosjean. He's under a lot of pressure and when you are under that kind of pressure and *everyone* is highly critical, it must be very difficult. It's easy to see how he tried not to harm anyone at the start and simply got caught out by Webber turning right and slowing down.

IMO - he got a race ban for the wrong pile up. Spa was unfortunate, but he clearly did not see Lewis. Hitting someone (or being caught out) by a car in clear sight and in front is something different however. If he did deserve a race ban for a start-collision - this one in Suzuka should be the one and not the Spa one (regardless how close Alonso was nearly de-capitated).

This whole witch-hunt isn't helping.

This is interesting - McLaren has zero new engines left, they've used all available 8 engines on both Buttons and Hamiltons car, so the remaining of races they have to use used engines or get 10 place grid penalty for using extra engines.

Also, Marussia's Charles Pic has received 10 place grid penalty for Korea from using extra engine, not that it would really change his position much

Yeah, it is a concern for McLaren but they won't admit it. What is a bigger concern this weekend is them making mistakes on set-up. Lewis went totally the wrong way between P1 and P2 on set-up and while he had suspension damage in Japan, he also had set-up problems.

Lewis is going to Mercedes to try and pull a Schumacher and build a team up from the dumps, the difference is that Schumacher took many key technical people with him from Benetton and AFAICS, Lewis is not taking anyone.

Well, it depends on how many benefits exactly a new engine provides. Probably a 10-places grid penalty is something worth it to go for. If the new engine is strong enough to give competition advantage.

Interesting race gonna be tomorrow. Ferrari looks alright to fight back.

Good on aussie grit to take pole, and good on Fernando to get on row 2. Gonna be exciting tomorrow, but Grosjean better stay the hell away from any red cars!

Having no new engines rarely makes a difference, they can still use any of the other 10, and if other seasons are anything to go by engine 1 was only used in the first race.

Does someone still run the list of engine usage? Cannot remember who did it. Know it wasn't scarbsf1 or James Allen.

It does seem like poor planning on the face of it though.

Everything Mclaren seem to do proves Hamilton has made the right choice to leave.

Quite boring start, other than Alonso & Hamilton competing which can push Kimi out from track and/or his line more :p

edit: Cowboyashi smashed Buttons wheel off

Do you see how dirty the air is in Asia because of industry in China, India, etc? It's so awful, so polluted, these people over there don't know what a true sunny day is. Disgusting. :devilish:

Very very boring track and race.
And unfortunately with missing to finish in Belgium and Japan, I think Fernando can say bye bye to his championship title ambitions. What a pity. :(

Disgusting, where do these debris come from? Why is everything over there so shitty and low quality? How do they allow it?

Should be the last race in that hell. :devilish:

Dude you have some serious issues.

1. Asia is rather large. It's not like the whole continent has bad air quality.
2. The debris is from the tires, apart from that one part of astro turf. Has nothing to do as neither is made in Korea (well im guessing the astro turf isn't).
3. Stuff from Korea is pretty good generally. Chances are atleast a couple of your electronic devices has parts from a Korean company in it.

Anyway, not too exciting. Hoped Alonso could have put in a bit more of a challenge nearing the end but I guess 3rd is the best what the Ferrari can do at the moment.

I liked Hamilton's christmas tree car

You too. ;)

I don't care. What I see is that in China, India, South, North Korea, Japan the air quality is awful, the more western parts are deserts which means the air quaility over there is not good either.

Oh, come on. It took them 10 !!! laps in the beginning of the race to remove (or did they really? ) the carbon parts and yellow flags...
And who cares where exactly it is made in when the only thing that matters is that they used it?

Yeah, very funny indeed. Do you realise how dangerous was for him to finish the race?
Also, it was funny when at Spa Alonso could have been killed, no?

Every or almost every track uses it.
The yellow flags weren't there for the carbon parts, they were there because of Rosbergs car. The amount of time it takes for the yellow flags to stop is directly related to how close the closest crane is. It wasn't close at this time, like it hasn't been on many other races in the past on other tracks.

Are you suggesting that LG and Samsung products and/or components for example aren't good quality?
Yeah, very funny indeed. Do you realise how dangerous was for him to finish the race?
If it was really dangerous, either the team or stewards would have told him to pull over
Also, it was funny when at Spa Alonso could have been killed, no?
How is that related to Hamilton picking up some astroturf? And every F1 driver knows that they could die every time they sit in the car - it's not funny, but it's a risk they know and are willing to take.
