Formula 1 - 2012 Season

If we'd follow Kaotik's lead, he'd just make a list of the drivers he thinks are the best and then that driver (Kimi) would win the WDC. We'd be done in January each year. No reason to fool about with all this racing malarkey.

Dont forget that his least favourite driver each year would be summarily executed.

Not quite, there's few brilliant drivers, but none can really be put above the others when it comes to driving skill - one might be incredible on one lap speed but lose to rest a bit on consistency and race performance etc, but one can't say the other proves he's more skilled than a driver representing the other.
What matters after that is your car, luck and experience - some have better car, some have better luck, some have both and some neither. And then some are incredibly fast but do still mistakes from lack of experience, not lack of skill.

I'm pretty annoyed by this. I wonder how they do it - it's blocked for me since I exceeded 50 views, but for some reason, even if I change IPs (I use a proxy) and delete cookies, it still finds me that I've exceeded it. Strangely, even through my mobile with the mobile data subscription and therefore from an entirely different device, it blocks me. I seriously doubt I've viewed 50 stories from all 3 devices, so I'm a bit perplexed.

Regardless, IMO it'll be interesting to see if this will net them more profits or less due to people not being happy with their choice of how to get more income. It's a tricky one.

Are they using a super cookie for example a flash cookie, java cookie, silverlight cookie?

No idea. I could be wrong and simply misjudged how many times I've opened their site to read stories on either devices - but if my feeling is right, they could be logging which user-agent (or a combination of browser+resolution+OS - any information a browser submits when requesting a HTML site) together with the IP. It could very well be that because I've used the same IP address during any one time this month, all my devices are logged as being the same user which is why I can't view any stories from any of them anymore.

As easy as this would be to implement, I still have my doubts if they would go this far, because this would definately be a problem for companies where various employes surf using the same IP address and through a method like this, they would reach 50 views far sooner than if you would simply count the access from unique browsers irregardless what IPs they use.

Change your user agent and your IP.

I bet they are using non-traditional cookies. User-agent matching seems like a silly way of doing it.

Hotspot shield gets round it
it also lets Europeans watch hulu and americans watch bbci

the free version is ad supported its not too intrusive plus you can turn it on when you need then turn it off when youve finished with it.

Excellent. I'm a bit shocked - I thought it would happen, but now that it has, I'm surprised all together. Always been a fan of the McLaren/Hamilton combination, but IMO - (and I think since Button has signed for McLaren) it's time for Lewis to move on. I really hope the Mercedes will be somewhat competitive next year and this surely puts an interesting light on the 2014 season with the major changes of the sport.

This is going to be very interesting in regard to how Hamilton's signing for Mercedes will influence the driver market.

I predict, Perez will go to McLaren (assuming he's been offered a seat). I know he is a Ferrari development driver, but from his point of view, a move to McLaren being offered equal rights is surely more attractive than the prospect of driving for the Scuderia with Alonso alongside (who in turn will always be the prefered number 1 driver, perhaps also due to the large backing by spanish Santander). Moving to McLaren IMO would be a brilliant move by him.

At the same time, this would be bad news for Sauber, who is relying on a lot of mexican money. If he is to lose Perez, the question is who would replace him? Apparently, Sauber would be interested in signing Schumacher, but if Michael would be tempted by what would be seen as a desperate move, moving to a smaller team? I'm not so sure, even if this would be good for Sauber, at least on the technical front to have a driver as experienced as Schumacher.

This is going to be one interesting remainder of the season.

I'm also interested to see how much support McLaren are still willing to give Hamilton given he'll be leaving the team. How much does Hamilton know about next years car? How much inside information can he take to Mercedes that would help them make the car better for next year?

Why Perez? It doesn't make much sense. Perez could take one shot at glory and sign with mclaren and be dropped if he doesn't perform (like a lot of drivers with little experience signing for a top team) and say bye bye to his chances in F1. Or he can stick with a smaller team, gain more experience and when FA is nearing retirement step in with Ferrari, maybe lay low one season and be the top dog at Ferrari the next year. Assuming he keeps getting better.

Somebody like di resta (british and mercedes backing) would make more sense for mclaren.

I doubt mclaren has much to worry about upcoming developments going to mercedes. Hamilton isn't exactly known for his technical abilities and I doubt drivers have acces to data that really matters nor get told about specific design features this time during the season. Especially not a driver that hasn't signed yet.

Brave on all parties. Perez is good, but is he great? Lewis has shown greatness, but can Mercedes make a good car without resorting to a magic bullet like in 2009?

I'm not sure "being great" is or should be a requirement for the 2nd seat at McLaren. If you look at the alternatives, DiResta comes to mind - although his status has took a back-step with Hülkenbergs performance this year. There's also the point to be made that McLaren is losing Vodaphone as a sponsor, so signing Perez and his link to Telmex would be a very good catch. I also think that both Perez and Button could harmonize well as team-mates - even if just for the smooth driving Perez has shown this year.

For Perez, it's the best decision he could have made. Reports are suggesting it's a multiple year contract and McLaren are a proven top team. A move to them makes a lot more sense than a potential move to Ferrari where he would clearly have to play a suport role to Alonso. Alonso is bound to finish his career there. If Perez can establish himself as a top-driver alongside Button, he will be in demand and could always end up at Ferrari eventually.

This is a major blow for DiResta who - with McLaren ties - was probably hoping to step up to the team in Woking. It is also a major blow for Sauber. There's a slim chance that Schumacher might race for Sauber though which IMO would be excellent news.

In Lewis and Jenson, you had two winning drivers. One a blisteringly fast driver who can overcome car issues, and another who is unbeatable on the right day.

Sergio is smooth, Jenson is smooth. I don't know if this is the right choice for McLaren. It is of course a good choice for Perez, he would be a fool to turn it down.

I still think it is brave for everyone involved.

I see it as a big mistake from both sides, especially Hamilton is supposed to struggle with Mercedes and to miss the podium most of the time. See how money is the most important, those awful bastards think only 'bout money. :D

The only winner should be Perez...

Feel the same...will see how this turns out at the end, but Mercedes needs to construct a good car first. And in my opinion, Rossberg is one of the best current driver available, he will be a big challenge for Hamilton....

Now we will be able to judge Nico properly. Is he as good as some people think?
