Fallout 3

I'm sure the gunplay won't be that great, this is Bethesda after all, they don't exactly make the most polished games in terms of gameplay.

With that said, I'm sure it will still be an excellent RPG, hopefully they've learnt some big lessons from Oblivion in terms of balance and levelling.

If this game is just Oblivion with a darker tone, better balance and better graphics, I'm already sold. It look great to me right now.

I wish Oblivion also had a pause/play option too. I do not mind given that this is not a shooter.

Btw, do not forget fighting in the first two Fallouts was turn-based.. The VATS system actually make this very close to what it was in these two games.

Give me a good story and I am in!

I'm back on board, it feels pretty much like Oblivion in Fallout universe, minus magic and melee (sorry Fallout fans). Even the voice actors seem to be same. I'll probably miss magic though.

Am I missing something? What is the appeal of this game?

The faces seem to be made of wood, guns don't even have recoil, the animations are lame, hit animations are not present or are horrible, the First person camera doesn't fell like a person walking, its as if you are moving a camera around !
The quests are the same old "find my dog" kindof quests ! I do not wish to offend fans but I fail to see anything good in it :???:.
I was hoping I could make a foray into RPGs with this one as it has shooter mechanics which, I thought, would aid the transition but I think STALKER is a much better choice for that.

I'm a huge Bethesda fan. I really am. I know that when I buy one of their games, it will be mediocre at best.
But a year later it will be the game I was dreaming about!!!

Ok, I'm not a Bethesda fan. I'm a huge fan of talented Bethesda fans that make excellent mods!!!

Great artowrk and it does seem to have athmosphere. But the combat hit animations, movment animations and weapon reload/shot aniamtions look horrible. Fix please and the blod is way overdone, to much and to generic looking. Excessive blod is only for wussies that needs a reality check.

...the First person camera doesn't fell like a person walking, its as if you are moving a camera around !...

Damn, thats exactly what I though too.

Btw, being one that has never played a Bethesda game, I wonder...
1) Will the devs improve the facial animation.. like actually moving the eyebrows?
2) Will there be a large cast for voice talents? ... since I could already notice repeated voices for different characters in the GC walkthroughs.

Still, I look forward to it since I'm a sandbox whore.

Having played several Bethesda games, I'd say... no. Bethesda are notorious for making these huge, open-ended environments with terrible production values. Bad textures up close, terrible models, etc. It's why the PC version may be a better deal -- at least with Oblivion fans came to the rescue with mods to fix the more glaring problems.

Again, if previous games are any indication, no. That's exactly how it goes.

True dat...Fallout 3 is handled as Elder Scrolls to me and these games have always been known to be high on substance but low on ... production value. Lots of quests, not much variation, big world, not much variation, lots of spoken dialogue, not much variation and so on if you catch my drift.

That we can't expect a dialogue system rivalling Mass Effect is a given (then again WHY is it?), but yea, at least improve on Oblivion for crying out loud.

Still buying it. I loved the walkthrough where you could blow up the nuke. Jesus Christ this game will be fun.

I was listening to latest 1up Yours podcast which has some good amount of hyperbolic Fallout 3 discussion.
Apparently the game has been pirated already.
I was wondering if anyone here knows a gamer forum with posters "brave" enough to post impressions based on pirated software. Needless to say, "fallout 3 impressions" search on our favorite search engine was less than successful.

Unrelatedly, I noticed the iso size is a little smaller than Oblivion's. Since Oblivion had a lot of asset reuse, one wonders how big Fallout 3 is compared to Oblivion.

It was confirmed a few times over that the Fallout world-map would be much smaller than the Oblivion one, vaguely remember it being half Oblivion's or something.

But it's meant to be a lot denser.

Well, for what it's worth, oblivion is about 1 gb textures, half a gb of models, and 2 gbs of sound (mainly voice).

So, my guess would be that fallout has less spoken dialogue for whatever reason. I don't really see how that has much impact on the game.

Oblivion had little variation of voices for characters. It could of course still hold it if they use some sound filters to morph the voice sounds to fit the characters (for immersion).

Oblivion has 40 hours of audio so i dont think anybody would care if the number is a little lower
