The little black thing under the d-pad is a analog 'stick'/'ball'.

I thought it was a buzzer, or speaker :)
It must pop up somehow, as in the pics it is too low to be useable.

Are you sure? It looks more like the grille of a speaker.

Yeah, I didn't recognize that thing either... Maybe it's mostly set into the case, or an unconventional style...? I'd really have to see how it works, as it looks odd, and is placed in what certainly seems an awkward place.

    PSP details

follow the link above and scroll down to the middle of the page, there's a perfectly clear picture there. You should notice this black circular thing beneat the d-pad. That is the analog stick thingamybob. Also the article mentions that the PSP has two shoulder buttons as well.

Oh and btw hi :D I've been a long time lurker and well I got interested in this discussion so I had to register.

Hey Zappy, welcome to hell. As i usually say to the newcomers, from now on your life will end. You will spend the rest of your days refreshing these pages waiting for someone to post something. You will not have a social life, sex, eat, drink. Have fun!

Don't worry I'm used to it  I've been a long time member of various forums(sp?) across the internet, most notably the old BIS ones and the new IPLY ones as well as various other rpg forums such as obsidian entertainment's forums(the guys doing KOTOR2 and most of whom I knew from the BIS boards not personally of course), halflief2.net, nintendojo. I always go by the same name although in some forums I don't have the dollar sign since some don't allow $ signs in the username. As you can probably tell I'm already a bonafide forum junkie :D

Are you comparing this forum to those? Huh? ARE YOU?! Because you know what happens to people even mentioning other forums on here, right...

Yes, as I said before, it "pops" out from what I was told. And yes there are Left & Right shoulder buttons.

Yes, good point re: back on topic.

Anyhow that video is quite good. Very smooth and sufficiently detailed that I think the DS is pretty powerful. Would like to see how it handles bigger environments (e.g. farther draw distances) though.

Also have to say that both the Zelda and Advance Wars looks good. Can't wait to get them. Wish Nintendo had some sort of online component for Advance Wars multiplayer over IP.

You're extrapolating here Lazy8s, the fact that a market has never been "explored", doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
BTW Nintendo themselves showed a figure that stated that 1/3 of the GBA owners were >18.

Personally all this, reminds me of Super Nintendo > Playstation transition. (On a price/market point, nothing else)

The first "target/owners" of PSP are the classical target of this kind of product (High-tech junkies) + "hardcore gamers".
For example,in France (since i know the numbers for france) there's a potential of 300 000 persons labelled "high-tech junkies".
Sony will do what they always done, target one market after another (Harcore gamers/ high tech>Fans of videogames/High tech interrested people> Casual gamer/ broad audience)...

It always worked for their Home consoles, so they may try that to their new handheld market. Sure, that's extrapolation too :D

Hrm... I was hoping maybe it would be operational-as-inset, as if something "pops" out, putting enough force on it--which you may accidentally use when playing a game--may "pop" it back in. Definitely must test...

...and I wasn't questioning the existance of L/R buttons--just hoping I won't have to hurt my hand using them for any extended period. ;)

We all know ps1 won because it was the most expensive hardware with the most expensive software ..

I agree it is ps1 vs N64 all over again, but with the roles switched.

Fair point and something I didn't consider. The statement about shoulder buttons wasn't directed at you per se. My bad for not clarifying that in the first place.
