E3: Nintendo Conference

The audio/video quality sucks a bit on this one, but you see more people than in the one i posted. Look at the left bottom of the screen after the zelda video is over, there is some guy jumping up and down! I want more of them! :D

Interesting bits and pieces from the Perrin Kaplan interview at IGN.com

IGN: Is that the final design of the DS?

Perrin Kaplan: We're getting close to what will be a final design.

IGN: What changes will be made to the final design?

Perrin Kaplan: I think you should spend your time guessing.

IGN: Don't worry, we will.

Perrin Kaplan: No, you'll see it shortly. We're mostly home.

IGN: So when will we see it?

Perrin Kaplan: At? I'd say before launch. Once we begin taking this on the road again. Once we're home and get stuff wrapped up from E3, get ourselves ready, and go back out -- you'll see it about that time.

...

IGN: What's the battery life for DS?

Perrin Kaplan: Very similar to the SP and I think very different from the PSP. I'm not quite sure why Sony said "Two to 10 hours" [for PSP's battery life]. That must mean that it's two hours.

...

IGN: Where does Nintendo stand on DS and the Internet

Perrin Kaplan: 802.11b wireless will take you to the Internet [on DS] and you'll be able to connect that way. Nintendo is not opposed to online. I think people have this perception that Nintendo does not support online. We support businesses that are profitable. We don't agree with charging a monthly fee to be online. This is wireless and will work without you having to pay a monthly fee.

So there will be a road show and the DS is definitely going online!
Moreover, she mentions that the Nintendo Revolution will be present next year at E3, at least that's what they have planned so far. Late 2005 launch???

Just to return to the point that london-boy made about the new zelda looking worse than the tech demo shown at spaceworld ages ago, I thought this would be of interest. It's a thread on another forum where some guy called crazy monkey posts pics of the tech demo and some of the new zelda. IMO, I prefer the new one and think it looks better. There is a remarkable difference as it doesn't seem as bright, the colours are darker, dirtier if you know what I mean.

Nintendojo forum thread

To be honest, my main concern is that it plays like a zelda game. I'm a massive fan of the series, it's my most favourite nintendo franchise, and with my new confidence in nintendo I've a feeling they won't disappoint.

The Space World demo reminds me of a Soul Calibur fighting game. now obviously the Link model in GC Soul Calibur 2 looks different still.

Space World demo is incredibly clean and smooth. too plastic-like. And they could put all the geometry into 2 models and run it at 60fps.

the new Zelda game is much grittier, dirtier, very similar to OOT but with a cup of LoTR added in. Nintendo needs to iron-out the animation & pauses that occur when link is striking a foe. otherwise, it looks stunning.

The pauses are meant to be there, its exactly the same in Wind Waker. Personally I don't see why they think pauses like that are a good thing.. But its definitely not something they need to iron out, more something they just need to realise is not really a good idea.

Does anyone know where to get a HQ high resultion version of the conference video? I wouldn't mine signing up on ign or somewhere else just as long as the quality is very good. But those bastards won't tell you until you signup! I'm not taking that chance.

That desgin wouldn't work as there wouldn't be enough space for the electronics. Additionally, such a DS would be extremly fragile.
Perrin Kaplan if you read between the lines of the Kaplan interview there are some minor changes to be made, such as a holder for the stylus. Maybe they're going to use different colours. But the DS is definitely going to be clam shell and the model is going to look pretty much similiar to the one presented at E3.

Nintendo E3 Conference 2004

Complete video footage of Nintendo's E3 2004 conference, featuring the unveiling of Nintendo DS and its line-up, Zelda, Metroid and Advance Wars Cube sequels and more...

113 MB

:/ When I try to play this video, all I get is a staticy-pixelated bar on the bottom of the window. I think it must be the codec. Can anyone suggest a codec with which they successfully watched the conference?

For those here who owns a GBA SP, have any of you guys ever just let the the unit sit on a desk with the display angled at about 100 degrees and watch the automatic game demos? I swear it's so cool. It's like a micro notebook computer. Try it sometime and you'll understand what I'm talking about. The display angle has to be between 90-100 degrees for this example to work. In other words, don't open the display all the way.

That video uses the DivX codec. So you need to go to divx.com and download the newest codec or player.

Or skip the codec-mess in your system and get ffdshow :D (google it, its a release from 2002 but works with all divx/xvid movies I've seen so far)

OMG, that's one b!tch-a$$ ugly photochop... The hinge for the screen is sticking out when it's folded up and is a weak point (as it is narrower than the width of the screen), and the buttons sticking out on either side adds unneccessary bulk. The joystick will get caught on stuff when inserted into a pocket, could get clogged with debris or damaged.

OMG. Totally ugly! I'd rather eat ratpoison than buy that thing...

President of Nintendo Satoru Iwata has revealed how he has personally taken over third-party developer relations, inhabiting the role previously occupied by gaming supremo Shigeru Miyamoto.
In comments underlining the dramatic resurgence of the Japanese gaming giant, which became the talk of the show following a barnstorming conference call, we can reveal that Iwata-san, speaking behind closed doors during at the event, made the shock admission that he believes Miyamoto's skills have been effectively diluted by his overly-demanding role within the company, having to juggle both development duties with third-party relations.

Some good news i think, they let the man do what he does best: developing games.

Oh I agree. I just posted the pic because no one has posted it yet.

^^ Thanks! I actually used to have that program on another comp and had forgotten about it. It is a great program and did the trick for this video!
