DriveClub by Evolution Studios [PS4]

nope i took those at the same time right before the start, you can't even move the car, but maybe sometimes blur is still up even when not moving, or it's a bug.

Sense of speed isn't what Phil is talking about. 30 fps has a visceral separation for players, making it that much more obvious that you're watching a TV rather than driving a car. 30 fps with lots of moblur can seem really faster in terms of motion, but also not as immersive as a slower feeling 60 fps-er.

You might get the same sense of speed but you do not get the same sense of control due to more blur and less motion resolution.

Also I think this "sense of speed" is pretty much bollocks. How fast you move in the game world is physically defined. How can that differ from other racing games with the same camera angles and cars?

Screw all the negativity, I've preodered the PS+ upgrade. I've gotta see this game, if it's anything like PGR I'll be happy.

In motion, it's even better because you can better "feel" the volumetric clouds and the dynamic lighting. It's the most realistic driving game I have ever watched / played.

Service status update
During the next 24hrs we are running essential diagnostics to help us improve the performance of the servers. This may disrupt online play for you when you do get connected.
We are sorry we don't have more news to share right now but we will keep working hard to get you all up and running online as quickly as we can.

I got a brief moment of connectivity (very brief) while playing today. Maybe tomorrow morning I have a shot at some online action / leadboards.

Still really like the game. 60fps would have been perfect, but other than that there is very little wrong with this game. I like both the circuit races and the point-to-point races a lot. The driving has a very satisfying feel, and hotlapping is still a lot of fun - you still have the sector by sector improvement itch, and the driving model has enough challenge and sense in it to keep it interesting (which is a big difference imho with a game like NFS).

Pro-tip for car sound lovers - choose manual shifting, set the car in neutral, and rev away. :)

I have no idea how valid such sentiments are, but it is possible to have a greater sense of speed despite the physical aspects being constant among titles. If the motion blur is longer (longer shutter speed), that'll help, and if the cars can get closer to significant distance markers, that could help too. There may also be a psychological element where more realistic visuals help convince the brain it's more inside a moving vehicle than watching a TV screen.

Field of view, the way environmental objects are laid out across various scales, motion blur techniques, the way the camera shakes on the ground...

There are a lot of things that affect the way the way the world parallaxes about the screen.

Track design is a big part of it; even in real life, driving at 60mph in a skinny lane feels faster than driving 60mph in a wide lane, for instance.

Does Driveclub offer a difficulty setting - specifically, an "easy" mode? Tempted to get this for my wife but based on discussion here and elsewhere, it sounds like the default mode will be too hard and demoralizing ("Yay, placed last again!")

Cheers
