Does Driveclub offer a difficulty setting - specifically, an "easy" mode? Tempted to get this for my wife but based on discussion here and elsewhere, it sounds like the default mode will be too hard and demoralizing ("Yay, placed last again!")

There's no difficulty setting for carieer mode but you can choose individual races AI skill level. This is too bad as game is way too difficult for the most players (who stream or post youtube videos). So far I've only found one or two players with enough talent on various twitch streams. It's weird for bumper car physics game. For pure arcade like Mario Kart 8, you'll find plenty of extremely talented players.

Maybe, but even that wow factor will wear off eventually - just like everything else. Pretty frames are perhaps what makes us take notice of games or feel that our shiney boxes are efficiently used and maxed out (or lead to endless discussions on which games are technically better), but it's the gameplay that keeps us playing (or not).

Okay, it's definitely better than I was expecting. Sound levels start off messed up though. music is off as default and is really low volume at 100%. I'm gonna knock the rest of the sounds down and turn up the TV's volume.

i also tried to see the LOD transitions for the trees by moving very slowly but could not notice it, it must be done very smoothly, it does not pop.
