DriveClub by Evolution Studios [PS4]

I was kind of looking forward to this but I am always happier to play a delayed game that is great than a rushed game that is sh1te. But still more news would be appreciated unless, of course, the release of DC coincides with some super secret sauce that Sony are planning with VR and whatnot.
 
There is always the chance that delay happened because of VR. They need a showcase game for that tech, and what better to use than a driving game?

I really, REALLY doubt that. You wouldn't delay a potential million seller for the sake of promoting some geeky eyewear that very few people give a crap about. Sony is also notorious for bringing out peripherals, letting them fight for themselves for a while, and then leaving them to rot.
 
I think VR has reached the point where it is actually a feasible reality in people's living rooms. Certainly EA are getting behind it in a big way, probably because MS are pushing them with a stick. I'm intrigued as to what Sony will deliver and playing something like Skyrim or The Witcher with a viewpoint I can just turn my head to look at is a very exciting prospect.
 
I think they simply weren't all that pleased with the looks-worse-than-forza-but-runs-at-30fps reception so far.

I would like to see more companies, where they are able to finance extensions, not release 6/10 or 7/10 scoring games when with some extra time they could be 8/10, 9/10 or 10/10 scoring games.

If money and developer time/commitment isn't an issue and a game can be changed or or polished then I would be astonished if the economics don't favour fixing an average game - particularly if it's multiple years in gestation like Drive Club (2-3 years based on Motorstorm Apocalypse launching in March 2011) or Watch Dogs (5 years before the delay).

Does it matter? Sony seems to be putting a lot of time and money into that thing so apparently they have at least moderate expectations. I just do not think that a bunch of hardcore nerds buying an oculus rift dev unit is really representative of market trends.
 
I'm not disagreeing with you at all here. I just don't think it has anything to do with some sort of peripheral.

Nor do I.

I would have commented in the Watch Dogs thread but the Ubisoft hate/conspiracy theories put me off. As far as I'm concerned the publishers looked as these games objectively and decided they needed more work if they are to get the scores (and thus returns on investments) their budgets demand.

Not to stray too far off-topic, but I thought the general impression was that the game had pretty good graphics (or put another way, what looked bad :?: ).

I dont know if this would ever be a "million seller", especially since they always talked of it having a very large "free for PS+ users" component that can be optionally augmented with a full game. I think that they always viewed this game as an experiment.
 
Yes I don't think the delay was about the graphics.

It should be about the handling of the cars (I hope) which looked not that great on many videos I have watched.

In one notably I could see that a developer had trouble to have clean trajectories and was clearly struggling, as if the analog control was off and he was driving only with the D-pad, but he was using a wheel.
 
Well to be fair, I don't think they wanted this to be a sim racer. You usually can't race clean lines in an arcade racer

Nah, there were others. Most of them tanked, though. And despite being pretty good no less.
The two racing games Blackrock (I believe that was the name of the studio, or is Blackrock an EA thing?) developed for Disney Interactive spring to mind. One was a quadbike racer and the other was set in some faux gameshow with a look evocative of a Michael Bay Film.
Pretty sure there were others too.
 
Ah yeah, I'd forgotten those. After Motorstorm any racer where you couldn't see the driver getting mashed up in rag doll fashion after a crash felt a bit bland :devilish:
