Apparently there will be no need for HDMI for HD-video until at least 2010. The studios have apparently agreed behind closed doors to not enable the ICT flag until at least 2010.
This solves the 499 PS3 and the HD-DVD add-on problem for Sony and MS in terms of video.
HD audio on the new discs will still need to go through HDMI, if only becuase of the bandwidth required. I suppose it is still possible that the PS3 A/V port could have a 5.1 analog output ocnnections but that doesnt seem likely.
MS has said they will have everything required for consumers to enjoy the HD-DVD format, i wonder if they meant the audio side too, or just the video.
