Without any temporal filtering the amount of flickering at lower res, magnified by the spatial filter, is often severe. With TAA enable to address these problems ghosting will re-enter into the equation. There’s no free lunch, as usual.
Never say never but I still have to see a temporally stable/consistent superres filter that is also spatial only, without the help of a temporal filter. Said that, I am ready to be surprised
I realize that there is no free lunch so I take the pessimist approach instead but what if we just accept having less performance gains altogether so we can run a higher rendering resolution for the spatial only filter ? I'm curious as to how much higher the internal resolution would have to be for a spatial-only filter to get a comparable result against a spatial/temporal filter ?
I could see that trading in temporal data for more robustness and easier integration being just as rationally valid option ...
