Amazing new PGR3 shots

That's actually 35,000 spectators without dropping below the game's normal framerate (which they coyly avoid specifying). That's really amazing. 35,000, even though not representative of in-game amounts, is just a really large number of things to draw without sinking the framerate.

Yeah no kidding man. I wonder what games will be like 2 years from now? There might be games pushing tens of thousands of people per track.

I would rather they make the cars look like they belong in the game instead.

LOL ! No god damn you.... I want crowds..... its all I care about : BIG CROWDS.... who cares about cars when you can have CROWDS... !! Infact screw the framerate too ! Lets just make Massive CROWDS !! ;-) :p

They should just take down the walls and allow you to plow through the crowds.....they serve no other purpose. Does add life to the game..but that amount of crowdage is excessive!

Great idea ! it could be included in the new Kudos system. Extra points for mowing people down. Infact, who cares about race tracks, lets just drive through crowds of people ! OK joke wearing thin now ! :-| ;-)

The next Carmageddon?
Ah yes, the good old days. Completing a race not by being first, nor destroying all the other cars, but by killing all 500-odd people stupid enough to be wandering around...

Jawed

The crowd is there just for test purposes, it even says in the pic " a render test" or something like that.
The final game won't have such large crowds.

Don't know what purpose does it serve to publish these "render test" images, but quess if you put a nice enough pic of a for example a highly detailed building front done as a render test, enough people will believe it's what the final game will look like....

they state right in the paragraph that preceds the screenshot that this was just a test to see how much the x360 could do without dropping framerate.

It maxed out at 35,000 which is pretty damned impressive IMO.

They stated for the final game there wil be thousands of people in the crowds, not 35 thou, but maybe 1 or 2 which would still be crazy...

All those people in the crowds might be necessary for Gotham TV spectators. I could see Gotham TV getting huge and they might need the large number of people for viewports.

Tommy McClain

that would be pretty cool... each spectator on the track online is 1 person viewing (even though they won't be at that one place, just so it adds the effect that there's people watching it)

I can't imagine how it would make the gameplay any better if the spectators accurately represented the number of people actually spectating the game in "game tv" mode, I mean who cares.
As long as the roadsides are populated with enough (detailed polygon) people to look believable, I don't think the spectators should be high on the list when the devs prioritize where to put the resources in a street racing game.
I find it kinda funny that Bizarre is hyping these aspects of the game (detailed building faces, massive number of spectators...) so much, seemingly neglecting the cars and racing aspect of the game almost totally. But maybe we'll hear more about those as the game developes more.

Bizarre is giving a (theoretically) weekly update on PGR3's development, not on PGR3. It's a voluntary move they've made to give their fans the kind of info they like reading. I appreciate it, anyway. So no, they're not hyping the secondary aspects. They're giving insight into Bizarre.

And quite frankly, I don't see how anyone can rationally critique Bizarre for doing this while most developers say nothing for months.

I have a better appreciation of the work going into the game with all the info they are providing. It's great to read.
