I think 79% is typical though. Most games are front loaded.

John Harker of Gaf who has acces to NPD said this about Halo 5.

Very disappointing. Barely over 10% attach rate must be a bit of a shock to everyone

I'm not sure what the install base is though, 7-8m?

There is no way that $500 unit sold even close to 2/3 of all SKUs. It is absolutely terrible value. The numbers are looking a little weak all around.

Agreed. I'm guessing most consumers (especially the ones that are aware of the $299 XB1/PS4 skus coming soon) held-off any October purchases knowing better deals/sales are coming up within November and December.

Halo 5 retail sales compared to Halo 2 Halo 3 and Halo 4

Actually, I would say at least half. Remember the Halo bundle was available for pre-order since August, where it charted 22nd on amazon's monthly sales chart, higher than any XB1 SKU for the month. It was also the highest ranking SKU for October.

Hmm I wonder if the NPD data has the breakdown as in do we have a chance to get the accurate number for it?

Also I have to admit I didn't know it included the Limited edition of the game as well with the statue and the other stuff. I thought it was just the Halo branded 1TB console and the regular version of the game.

Halo 3 sold over 3 million in the first 4-5 days in the US iirc. Halo 5 doing sub 1m in the same amount of time is pretty weak. Even if digital sales double that amount to 1.6-1.9m sales (which is unlikely to say the least) it's still disappointing for a Halo game.

Yeah, the LE, statue and custom skin make it appealing to hardcore Halo fans, whether it's people just getting into XB1, or even existing owners.

2/3 of all SKUs is probably a safe bet IMO.

I believe it. On my friends list I have have b3D company and 4 other friends that own Halo 5. Compared to Titanfall and FO4 and Destiny, Halo seems rather thin for its weight.

Sign of the times I guess. I really like Halo 5, but I can see a lot of people not liking it (if you grew up on COD).

This is where we start talking about the threat of mobile gaming to the core of consoles in another thread. It's great that hardware is selling (I expect it to trend down now), but the ROI on these high budget games seems to be falling off.

I am not that surprised at the Halo 5 numbers. As I said before, 343 with Halo 4 and Halo: Master Chief Collection did a lot of damage to the Halo brand. This lead to everyone being overly cautious on Halo 5. I think Halo 5 is a great product, but the damage was done already and I dont know if word of mouth is enough to repair the community trust.

I am shocked that MS won October NPD. I frankly did not expect them to win any NPDs once Sony announced PS4 price drop to $349.

I don't know, as stated $50 drop with bundles round the corner...may as well hang on whereas MS released their biggest exclusive franchise and just won October for ~30k.

Exactly. I think people just opted to wait for the COD and BF bundles. That seems like a logical assumption, especially if you take into account that these bundles have been doing incredibly well in the rankings on Amazon and other shops during the month of October. As a result, the PS4 now has a big lead in November. The BF LE bundle was even doing well all the way back in September, so that's 2 extra months of pre-orders.

Historically (including 360) MS always does really well over the holiday, Sony (IMHO) have positioned themselves really well to try and 'combat' that this year.
