Edits: Microsoft PR says Xbox One and was up 63% YoY. So, calculated at ~274k.

So, XBO~274k, PS4 <274k is what we know so far.

They took April's statement. I fell for that too xD

Halo being Halo. PS4 leading in multiplatform games.

Uncharted low, but NPD doesn't count bundles.

Sounds like a slow month all around. MS squeaked by like I predicted and Halo is not the system seller it used to be. Now time to wait for the main show, November.

Ehh, we were conditioned to expect too high imo. Take a look at last October's numbers. 4 week month too. And hell even Halo didn't come out until late in the month, so some of it's hardware driving power might be felt in November (where it'll probably be drowned out by other factors, but still).

Quite poor start for Ps4's first price cut, but the real tale IMO will be Nov/Dec and if it can heavily blunt XBO's gains there compare to 2014.

Current hints on GAF seem to be that Halo 5 did very badly. If so I'm happy. 343 needs to go back to the drawing board.

Saw an interesting mod comment about game hardware something like "I feel like the public has been conditioned to wait for holiday fire sales". That feels pretty true. Microsoft leading the charge on that one. Not sure what could be done about that or where to start.

Oh, Amazon was theoretically wrong this month...but was it? Pre orders for Halo bundles charted in September too...but then you start getting into no matter which console wins you can justify it territory.

Halo didn't come out until late October, but the hardware bundle was available for pre-order since August. And the bundle was available for sale before the game's release. It was higher priced bundle at 499 though.

PS4 had a price cut midway through the month. It did, however, have Battlefront and CoD bundles hindering sales.

I still think it was a low month for HW sales. If November's sales are also on the low side, I kind of worry about console sales looking forward, at least in the US. The PS4 at least seems to continue to be selling very well outside of the US.

Anytime there are bundles available for pre-order, it's pretty much impossible to predict using amazon.
I actually predicted an XB1 victory based on amazon's rankings. It was the highest ranking XB1 SKU in August where the XB1 sold 202k for the month. And it was just 6 spots behind the highest ranking PS4 SKU in October.

It not about right/wrong, it is about what can be guesstimated since the sales of the Halo 5 bundle were distributed among multiple months. I was able to predict it using only Amazon, so it comes down to making assumptions about numbers given only sales positions. To me the close position of PS4 and XB1 in October on Amazon plus the info about previous month pre-orders made it clear (to me) the XB1 was going to edge out the PS4.

Buying a PS4 in October was kind of dumb, $50 is nothing when you consider all the reasons to wait until November. Now all the pre-orders for two Battlefront and one COD bundle will hit in November along with all the Black Friday sales. It's going to be a massive month. There are still four PS4 SKUs in the Amazon hourly chart.

I think they were saying Halo5 did around 2 million if you count 25% of physical orders as digital and about 10% bundle sales. That's still a good attach rate for the smalller install base of hardware, right?

It is in its own right for sure. But compared to other Halo titles, the sales are definitely on the low side.
The closest comparison would be Halo 3 on X360. Similar install base, first Halo game on the system etc. Halo 3 sold 3.3M first month, and that's not including bundle sales (HW sales were 528k for the month, up ~91% MoM), and obviously there were no digital sales back then.

2 million would be about 15%, which is very good. Nothing like the glory days of past where the Halo and Halo 3 had attach rates of over 50%, but Halo 5 has only had four days of sales.

Cosmic is now hinting Halo didn't do a million.

Granted, I expect digital to be higher than even the new normal. Maybe up to ~30%=300,000. That still wont bring it to good numbers imo.

Since XBO did 300k hardware maybe Halo bundles 200k tops? makes it more respectable maybe.

Oh and I guess H5 dropped 79% second week in UK? So much for that word of mouth...
