I think I voted 16-17M. 18.5M is impressive. 4.1M is way more than I thought they'd sell in the holiday season.

It can. But that is a bit much to have in stores, especially since Sony mentioned they have holiday shipment problems in the EU.

Wii shipments I mentioned are for the same period as PS4 - first 5 quarters on the market.

PS4 launched few days earlier than Wii in US and EU, but it started much later in Japan [and it had weak game catalogue there].


edit - heh, by end of first full year of Wii sales, Nintendo shipped 5 million consoles to Japan. On the other hand, in same time period Sony sold less than 1 million PS4s [MediaCrete/Famitsu numbers].

PS4 december sales were the best in UK

PS4 was the UK’s best-selling console in 2014 and also the best-selling machine on both Black Friday and Cyber Monday in November.
It was also the best-selling console in the final week of the year and the best-selling across November and December combined, although it has previously been claimed that Xbox One was the best-selling machine in November alone.
Earlier today Sony said that PS4 has now sold 18.5m PS4s worldwide.
The most recent Xbox One count had the console pegged at 10m shipped, not sold, as of November.

Ture, but I expect the proportion of PS+ subscribers who upgraded would be pretty high, as being a PS+ subscriber makes one a bit more core, I think.

Wow. That's why MS was somewhat quiet about some of the Black Friday / Cyber Monday / Holiday talk, especially dealing with the UK.

The wording of the news item confirms ms won November in my opinion, otherwise Sony wouldn't have combined the results.

The net result of the holiday period in the UK though is the gap has again widened between the 2 consoles.

How are prices in the UK though? Are the two consoles similar in price?

USA got the price cut where X1 had an advantage there, but Europe did not as I understand it, leaving X1 at a disadvantage (well, given the hardware)

It looks like on Amazon UK the X1 is 279 pounds where the PS4 is 329?

However I dont know if this is a temporary sale on X1...it's ahead of PS4 on their bestsellers currently, which I would assume is unusual.

The xbox has been cheaper than the PS4 for quite a while here, it did coincide with the temporary price cut in the US, but it's been discounted pretty for most of the year in relation to the RRP.

I imagine Amazon UK sales tracking over the holiday period would be less likely to be as indicative of the wider market over the holiday season.

Most buyers over the hols will be parents buying for younger offspring, and given concerns with guaranteeing delivery times over the Christmas period, most will look to buy at brick and mortar stores rather than online.

I thought Germany liked Pc gaming more than consoles, on MS PCs? Edit: That list is very PS weighted, but I believe the German's buy their games online a lot. Not sure we have any German insight on this board.

I guess my estimate of 12m XB1 sold is based on faulty data. I assumed they sold 10m back when they made their announcement and have since then sold another 2m during the holidays. Apparently they shipped 10m back when they made their announcement and that included holiday bundles. There is also some evidence developing on Gaf that MS stuffed the channels. So they may be at 10m sold now.

Hmmm, I was not expecting this for the mid-week (first full week) update for Jan. 2015 on Amazon US.

Erm. I don't know how to explain this.

PS3 - 3D glasses at number 4. Did something come out recently that suddenly made those really popular?

7 Microsoft, 9 Sony, 4 Nintendo items in the top 20. Sony doing well with product sales despite Microsoft selling more consoles.

Halo 5 249.99 USD edition still hanging in at 67. I still can't fathom paying that much for a game. Although who am I to talk considering I've spent over 400 USD on Warframe.

I expect a lot more shake-ups before January is over. Although with PS4 falling a few spots, I'm not even going to try to predict where things go as I expected it to hold steady or even move up a few spots.

On the hourly charts X1 has now dropped to 12 behind PDS4 at 10. My point is I think it will just take a bit for the charts to catch up. Generally speaking anytime an item is from a 3rd party seller (which X1 seems to be now I guess because they're undercutting Amazon on price, or maybe because Amazon is out of stock of the Unity SKU) it's going to drop a lot.
