Yeah, just saw an ad in german tv, you can get this monday at Saturn a X1+two Lord of the rings blue ray (don't know which) and Shadows of mordor gane copy for 379 euros...that is quite a deal imo!

PS4 + 1 game $399 is #9
XB1 + 2 games $389 is #21

Amazon hourly. Not that either is likely selling many units.

Edit: now #10 & #25

Yeah, both have fallen a bit in monthly rankings as of the weekend update, but PS4 has fallen slightly less.

09 - XBO: AC ( down 2 spots)
17 - PS4 (down 1 spot)

This will be an important month for us leveraging Amazon US as a litmus test for NPD results. Amazon has shown X1 in the lead for some time (month view), and still in the lead for January, but it's possible from other reports it may not win the month of December. It appears that demand for X1 has dropped off significantly.

NPD should be this Thursday IIRC at 7pm EST?

I don't think December is much in doubt, but the gap will be smaller. MS had a sale all of November while Sony only deviated from bundle-less MSRP starting on Black Friday. December they both had bundles the whole month, but only XB1 had a price cut. January will be more interesting, a week or so of $349 and all units being a bundle should make the XB1 more competitive than before November. Based on Amazon hourly (#5 vs #20) it is better than the non-bundle which was around #40 before November.

One thing is clear, most buyers do not want Kinect. The Kinect UC bundle is #216.

And yet, if you followed any of the discount thread discussions on Slickdeals, Reddit, etc.. all of the discussions were about the deals that included the Kinect, the AC bundles w/ Kinect that people were able to get for the price of the bundle w/o Kinect due to advertising errors, the refurbished bundles that included kinect, how trading in a PS3/360 essentially got you a Kinect for free.. etc.

I think your conclusion here is ill-informed. It isn't clear that most buyers do not want Kinect. The evidence only indicates that people do not want to PAY for Kinect, which is entirely different.

People don't want to pay for Kinect, but of course we are talking about sales so paying for it is implied. I'm sure people wouldn't mind a free Kinect.

Right. We're talking about sales, in a sales thread. The fact that bundles including Kinect were more sought after than ones without - as long as there was not a price differential, flies in the face of your comment that it is clear that most buyers do not want Kinect.

There's really zero point in discussing the merits of giving something away for free.

How is it any different fundamentally than bundles including free games? The point being that discounts that allowed people to buy the unit including Kinect for the price of the unit without Kinect was just as much a contributor of people buying units from Nov-Dec as bundles that included other things for free - Live memberships, controllers, games, etc.

It's different in that you are trying to gauge people's demand for Kinect, yet you want to prove your point by saying that they want it but don't want to pay for it. No shit, Sherlock!

In the real world, if people don't want something enough to pay for it, they simply don't want it, and throwing it in for free doesn't make the item more in demand.

And yes of course the bundles were highly successful because they provided more value for the price.

Personally I'd love an XOne with Kinect. If only there was more software, I think Kinect itself is a great thing. Maybe later this year.

off topic

The only time I hate Kinect is when I am browsing the xbox marketplace and my son walks into the room. Kinect will log in my son, greet him and then parse out all the non G rated selections on the marketplace.

I have to put on the Kinect cover and log him out or else its log on tug of war between me and Kinect.

MS offering SKUs without Kinect is evidence enough of the demand for Kinect, i.e. whether people is willing to pay for it.

That only shows that there exist a significant amount of people willing to buy the XB1 but not with the $100 premium that Kinect's inclusion requires.

Past sales show that people didn't value Kinect enough to pay an extra $100. Not that they deemed Kinect valueless.
