August NPD is more than likely for Sony PS4 - again.

Analyst: PS4 sales slowed in August — Xbox One and Wii U both saw gains

In August, Xbox One sales were up 14 percent month-over-month to approximately 150,000 in the U.S., according to Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter. Nintendo’s Wii U saw massive growth of 111 percent year-over-year to 65,000 during the month. Sony’s PlayStation 4, meanwhile, actually sold worse in August than in July, but that doesn’t mean Microsoft’s console beat it.

“We expect PS4’s [August] sales to again exceed those of the Xbox One,” wrote Pachter.

Sony sold approximately 175,000 PS4s in the U.S. last month. That’s a 14 percent drop from the previous month.

“[PS4 still outsold Xbox One] despite the June introduction of a $400 Xbox One without Kinect and the August release of a $400 Madden NFL 15 bundle that includes a download code [for Madden], essentially bundling the game for free,” wrote Pachter.

Wedbush, which gathers its data by reaching out to retailers and content producers, estimates that Microsoft sold around 50,000 Madden NFL 15 bundles. That powered much of the system’s growth. As for Nintendo, Mario Kart 8, the racing game that has players driving around as Donkey Kong, Bowser, and other characters, is continuing to drive Wii U sales.

As of now, we're looking at for August...
PS4 -175K
XB1 -150k
Wii U - 65k

Destiny's PS4 version finally reaches #1 on Amazon US hourly updates.
XB1 version is at #3.

I can see this game doing 8mil WW in its first week.

Before going crazy over the numbers, remember that Pachter's estimates are not even in the same ballpark of accuracy as NPD results. That some outlets are reporting on them as if they're fact is currently the subject of Aquamarine's rantings.

I don't think anyone would be shocked that Patchers number aren't accurate ...its more so, what Patcher's is leaning towards sales wise for August - based on their gathered data. Nothing wrong with that... this whole thread is based on assumptions/whispers until proven otherwise.

PS4 is announced to sell 1 million in UK

http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/ps4-hits-1m-uk-sales/0138062

PS4 has sold 1m units in the UK, making it the second fastest selling home console of all time.

The machine reaches the figure after 42 weeks. Wii managed the same feat in 38 weeks.

By comparison, PS2 hit 1m in 50 weeks and Xbox 360 took 60 weeks to hit that target. PS3 was quite quick to 1m, selling to that number by week 46.

And UK MD Fergal Gara has told MCV that many of the customers that have picked up PS4 have come over from Xbox.

"We have certainly seen PS3 consumers come across quite hard and fast," he said.

"But a very significant proportion are people we have never seen on our network before. And from their behaviour and the types of games they are playing, it’s fairly clear that a big chunk of those have come across from Xbox, which is tremendous to see.

Finally an update on the matter

PS4 - 1 million in 42 weeks
1 - 5 (2013 LTD) - 530,000
6 - 42 (2014 LTD) - 470,000

Weekly average in 2014 - 12,703

USA PS4 life to date (before August sales)~ 3760k

So, slightly better than 1/4 as many in UK as USA. Whereas the raw population is about 5:1 in favor of USA.

HMMM Chartz was really close on their number....http://www.vgchartz.com/weekly/41875/UK/

Just makes me wonder if they have an actual UK figures leak....

The power of Destiny maybe? ;)

If we look at the figures it's easy to see why. At midnight last night Destiny went on sale and this morning the PS4 shot through the one million sold mark in the UK. For Sony, Destiny is a system seller, with the £349 PS4 Destiny bundle the main attraction.

Edit: Seems XB1 has shifted 666,666 units in the UK. Bit of a wicked number... :runaway:
Destiny launches at an important time for both the PS4 and Xbox One. In January 2014 Gara revealed that the sales ratio of PS4 to Xbox One in the UK was 1.5:1, and eight months later this remains the case. That means that if the PS4 has sold 1m units, then the Xbox One has shifted 666,666.

They say 'shot through' without citing any evidence. Might be creative license on EG's part, and the growth may have been pretty steady. Doubt we'll ever get those numbers.

10% of all sales of PS4 ain't bad for little old Blighty.

Doubt Xbone sold exactly 666k guys, approximations and all that.

But vgchartz was close on XB1 number as well (they had it at 647k week ending 8/23). Maybe they do have a Chart Track leak for UK numbers.

If so, for week ending 8/23 sales (last available) they had PS4=10,906, X1=5906. In case it means anything to give an idea of recent trends.

I should look at the numbers vs USA, at a glance PS4/X1 is swinging more to PS4 in UK than in USA. In USA it's not even 4:3 while in UK it's 3:2 apparently.

Also, some some guy on GAF (TM, R) says Destiny sold better on X1 than PS4 at his district of 11 gamestop stores in Florida.

Amazon paints a picture of relatively strong Destiny X1 sales relative to PS4 as well, compared to other multiplats. I've never bought the Destiny as PS4 system seller thing. Here's my thinking, 1, X1/Xbox players really gravitate to FPS. I think people really underestimate that here. A multiplat third person action game like Watch Dogs or Assassins Creed is likely to do relatively better on PS4 imo. 2, things like exclusive DLC have little effect on people I think. I never got the sense all that timed Xbox exclusive stuff on COD did that much for them. Possibly 3, X1 owners haven't had a major exclusive to soak up dollars in a while, while PS4 owners had TLOUR recently. 4, possibly the 1080P news? 5, possible bungie/halo affinity on Xbox.

But I think it's just mostly point 1, Xbox FPS affinity. The others are minor. Oh and there's no way I expect Destiny X1 to outsell PS4 version in any country, PS4 install lead is too high for that. Just that I think it will do relatively well on X1.

Amazon notes, PS4 12 X1 now seems stuck at 18. I think it could have maybe gone higher if they had the Madden bundle in stock.

Somebody said regards Destiny stuck at 19/21 PS4/X1 maybe the 2014 charts are broke. I'm starting to entertain that as a possibility, is everything stuck in the same position? I haven't noticed but I think maybe so. I also noticed if you try to look up September sales using the url trick, it doesn't work. Still works for previous months but not September.

The PS4 Destiny Bundle is one of the hottest items at GameStop and Amazon. The seven GameStop's within my area are sold-out. I'm also pretty sure the PS4 Destiny bundle will move more units than the Madden XB1 bundle, and possibly the Titanfall bundle within a few weeks. I think (believe) Sony has a real winning combination with Destiny compared to other bundles, IMHO.

That bundle has charted high on Amazon for months and months now. It's gonna be huge.

It's the nearest thing to Halo being on Playstation...

So you were willing to count the Madden bundle but ignore the Destiny bundle? PS4 is currently 6th and 10th, XB1 is 19th and 57th.

And I agree with the above two posts, the Destiny bundle has been charting high at both amazon and gamestop for months...they're gonna sell a lot of them. Here in Canada, the Destiny bundle sold out over a week ago at amazon as well as many other stores across the country. Plus Destiny in itself is a system seller for both PS4 and XB1.

As for the 2014 chart, it's obviously broken... it hasn't moved all week.

Oh, well I forgot destiny bundle is no longer just a preorder. Good catch it's now a shipping console.

Ok. Probably that's why there's no September. August rankings could be tainted too depending how long it's been down. But this throws into question a lot of my worrying about Destiny on Amazon. Although still no version is #1 hourly.

How can you say that it's due to Destiny or white PS4?

"We do have plans [to launch the white PS4 separately] and plans before Christmas, but we’re going to give Destiny a good, solid breathing space with exclusive claims on the white and then bring it out as a standalone product", said Gara.

Same thing could be said about SSO white XB1 bundle.

It's not just one thing that makes the Destiny bundle a hot item, it's a combination of the fact that it's white, Destiny is included, and it's a decent value. Destiny could very well be the biggest game of the year. Not knocking AC Unity or Far Cry 4, but if those were the games that were bundled with the white PS4, I don't think it would sell nearly as many.
