There's some stuff on GAF that Destiny is the most pre-ordered new IP (although that story is a month old) and some random claims his Gamestop manager is expecting 600 people at midnight launch.

Still, I'm surprised at Amazon. Now only two days and no version is #1, and the 2014 rankings haven't budged in ages.

Still, it is dominating the top charts with different versions. Current Destiny-Amazon rankings:

PS4- 3
X1 -4
PS4 Destiny bundle -6
360 -7
PS4 Limited Edition -15
X1 Limited Edition -16
PS3 -24
PS4 -Digital Guardian Edition -46

Also I guess the free game promotion is moving X1 hardware up. Currently #21. And the Madden bundle is still out of stock...probably nerfing X1 hardware sales at least at Amazon.

2014 rankings must be frozen or something... at least 1 or more Destiny SKU has been in the top 15 in June-August, and 3 of them have been in the top 10 all September. I doubt that none of the Destiny SKUs wouldn't move up. Regardless, I still have no doubts that Destiny is gonna be massive.

As for XB1 hardware, I believe it's a combination of things boosting sales. I'm seeing a lot more XB1 ads on TV now, with big celebrities in them, saying "Now starting at 399". Plus Destiny and their free game promotion. I think they know the PS4 Destiny bundle is gonna be huge for Sony and are trying to counter it.

It's weird that the Xbox One still hasn't come out here - it strikes me each time I walk into a store. And they're not making great press now that release is coming up: the official reason we were getting it almost a year later was that they didn't want to release it without native voice command support, but now Microsoft is saying that still won't make it. And apparently the language setting for voice command is linked to your region setting, which means that if we want to have our OS set to English so we can use voice commands, we need to set it up with an English registration address, buy from the English store, etc.! Kind of pathetic, imho.

They really need something good or they are going to lose all they have worked so hard to build up here ... They had a good opening with the younger generation more predisposed to buying a 360 than most, and they definitely did well with losing the Kinect from the bundle from that perspective. The video options are also definitely a good move. But they're very behind and not in a great spot at the moment. Will be interesting to see how the launch goes.

I know that I cancelled a PS4 hard copy for digital PS3 copy then cancelled that bc the download code was being held till launch on Amazon's website.

My guess is a lot of people are doing like me; cancelling PS4 copies for PS3 digital versions so you can own it on both consoles. Add the code delay and there isn't a good reason to buy from Amazon.

Not sure how codes are being handled foe Xbox versions but could be similar.

The Microsoft store (both online and retail), at least here in the US, is giving away a $50 gift card in addition to the free game selection with the $400 Kinect-less Xbox One. I don't know that it's promoted very heavily but I wonder if off deals like this would have an affect on Amazon number for shoppers looking for deals.

well I do
sure its gonna sell millions, but GTA or CD numbers, nah
Just got a feeling (and Im good at feelings, hmmm that sounds bad)

Crazy deals. Spend that money you saved on the GPU, Microsoft :p

PS4 #12 X1 #18 on Amazon. I'd think X1 could go very high if Amazon matches the MS.com deal, and gets the Madden SKU in stock so people can stack.

If it's any indication I noticed Wal Mart and Best Buy brick and mortar tonight both did have the Madden console in stock.

Since when did GTA/CoD numbers of last/previous generations definitively become the definition of 'massive'? That will be pretty hard to do this year, considering the high current gen adoption rate and relatively small install base of PS4/XB1. Not to mention that Destiny is a new IP.

I think it will be the highest selling title of the year, which is pretty 'massive' in my books. But no I don't think it will do GTA/CoD-like lifetime numbers, if that's what everyone considers the definition of 'massive'. Maybe more like Halo or Gran Turismo sales (~10M lifetime).

Wow that bad, so you're saying this high profile title releasing on 4 platforms ps3/4,xbone,360 will only sell what these other single platform titles did. Surely not that bad :???:

Damn, GTA V sales were higher than I thought... 24M in 6 weeks. Watch Dogs is already at 8M too I think.

Ok, check that... higher than 10M. I don't know what Destiny will sell lifetime, but I think it will sell extremely well and will be the highest selling title of the year.

But on the topic of PS3/X360 sales, I don't think it will sell very well on those platforms... the majority of sales will probably be on PS4/XB1.

Definitely. The Xbox One and PS4 versions have been topping Amazon for months before release.

A lot of core gamers have upgraded their consoles they'll be buying for their latest machine.

um no
ppl have moved on

but ultimatelyin answer to your question
yeah

You expect every Xb1 and PS4 owners to buy Destiny? Thats what it would practically take to do COD and GTA type numbers if the most significant contributors end up being next gen owners.

Those are mainstream titles which contribute a lot to their success. The bulk of the mainstream is still on the previous gen.

GTA V was 1st and 3rd best selling titles of 2013 for Amazon. And are still the 2nd and 6th best selling console titles of 2014. The COD 360 sku sits in between the two for both years.

Destiny can do GTA and COD numbers buts thats going to take alot of 360 and PS3 owners contributing to the overall sales of Destiny.

IMO the free digital upgrade will help the PS360 numbers a lot in the coming weeks. Many people online are saying they've cancelled their XB1/PS4 preorder and opted for the PS360 digital version and plan to take advantage of the free upgrade. You basically get 2 games this way....

The internet isn't very representative of the market IMO. While that offers a great value, it only gives you digital copies, correct? Most people want physical. That may help with last gen sales a bit, but I still think that the majority of Destiny sales will be on current gen platforms.

It is true that the info online is anecdotal, I shared it because the drop in a sale of XB1/PS4 due to free digital upgrade also results in an additional sale for PS360. In other words it could show up in an interesting way in the data, bc the cancellation and or purchase cannibalize the next gen sale.

Destiny becomes GAME's most pre-ordered new IP

Retailer GAME says that the Activision shooter has become its most pre-ordered new IP ever – not a bad achievement considering that it comes less than ten months into the new console cycle.

“We look forward to welcoming a huge population of fans into our stores at midnight,” a generic press statement read. “Tomorrow will be a pivotal moment for gamers all over the world, and we couldn’t be more excited to be part of delivering what is a ground-breaking gaming experience."

Sony said at Gamescom last month that Destiny had claimed the title of the most pre-ordered new IP ever.
