[360, PS3] Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Those dual shotguns are ridiculous, they kill at even medium range, some guy was just running around clearing whole rooms of guys with them.

And whats with all the crazy fast people who lunge at you with a knife from like halfway across the room.

And AC 130s can shoot through walls?
MP now seems even less realistic than Halo!

Yeah, akimbo are annoying as hell. I once picked a pair of shotguns lying around and started shooting at walls across a fair distance just to have a look at the range. It's quite amazing how big the holes are and how much is in your hitting zone as the spray of bullets spread out nicely. After having seen this, I'm not too surprised how lethal they are. Especially if you consider that you effectively have 4 bullets that you can fire in an instance.

The other annoying aspect is, as you found out, knifing. With the right perk, you can pretty much kill someone from long range and once he's initiated the knife trigger, he's pretty much invulnerable.

Then there's also snipers which I just don't get. I started playing around with some sniper rifles and I've never been able to kill *anyone* with a single shot other than to the head - which is pretty difficult as is. Yet, when I get shot by a sniper, it's always a one-shot-one-kill and thanks to the killcam, I *know* that he didn't headshot me. I've tried picking up those sniper rifles and tried it for myself and I just can't replicate it. How do they do it? I've tried it with the bullet-penetration perk but that didn't make much difference. Do you need the strong ammuniation as well to pull it off or is there some perk that I've missed that does the job?

Do they have the Stopping power perk? Or unlocked one of the better sniper rifles?

I actually find it hard to spot anyone at a distance (especially ghille suited snipers) due to how detailed the game is and how much garbage and newspapers etc fly around to distract you, and i'm playing on a 46 inch set, I wonder how people with SDTVs cope.

And when you do spot them you're most likely already dead.
It is very much a lethal game of hide and seek, I don't remember COD4 being this insane.

I suppose the only way you could snipe was if u'd know the map layout pretty well and as soon as the match begins scramble to perches overlooking high traffic areas and just camp there for the rest of the game, and perhaps use the tactical insertion perk to spawn there again if someone does take you out.
Because running around with a sniper is pretty much impossible in this game.

Do they have the Stopping power perk? Or unlocked one of the better sniper rifles?

I'm fairly certain I've tried that - also tried all the sniper weapons too (I've unlocked them all). To my knowledge, the Barret .50 is the strongest of them all and even with that, I need two shots unless I get the lucky headshot. The most fustrating thing about it is, that IMO it's already difficult enough to get a single hit and when you do, he either survives by not being instantly killed and I never get that second hit because the recoil sends your aim flying off after every shot, or someone else kills him and I'm left with the 20 assistpoints...

Since I hardly kill anyone with the sniper rifle, I haven't really been able to unlock any of the upgrades for that weapon. Perhaps the FMJ (or whatever it's called) bullets are required in combination with the stopping power perk to get one-shot-kills?

Using Stopping power with any of two sniper rifle available from start [Intervention & Barret],without any silencers or so means you can pretty much 1 hit Kill anyone [minus painkiller ofcourse] as long as you don't hit the arm or foot. [you will never OHK if you hit in arm or the foot]. And using FMJ bullet attachment means its a OHK anywhere...but still there will be a good few times when you still won't OHK due to poor hit detection of the game.

P.S.Use Sleight of Hand Pro with Sniper rifle]

Well at the very least COD4 had maps that helped snipers a lot, here its either an open area or an area which has atleast 4-5 different entrances to look for.

Exactly, if you have Stopping power you can get one shot kills pretty easily. I find sniping very boring so I never do it, but if I wanted to I would choose a map like Wasteland where you have vast open areas.

Yes, you need to know the maps inside out and find a position that let's you target the hot spots. You can surely run with a sniper rifle, check zzirgrizz's videos on youtube. You can use then no scope/quickscope technique and run and gun with a sniper rifle. It takes a lot of practice, though.

lol...he's like the best COD player on console in the whole world.
Half of the tricks that people perform are discovered by him....not everyone plays like him :p

i had big problems with snipers at the start, i was unable to kill anyone and i was dying a lot. Adding ACOG scope and heartbeat sensor to barret helped a lot. Still im not very skilled with snipers. I dont know how abut you guys but imo lmg like aug hbar with red dot performs rly well on long range and dmg is insane.

Uh.. I started sniping today (never liked it cuz i play FFA, and that would require camping). Did like 30-50 kills each round with barret .50 cal on team based modes. On sens 9 its quite nice, as you can adjust for recoil.

I fell in love with sniping in cod today after soloing the stealth veteran spec op missions with the sniper. 5 headshots in 2-3 seconds gives one confidence :)

I use Stopping power, and barret .50 cal kills most people in one shot to the chest. Do note that silencing the weapon etc will reduce damage. I think the intervention is more powerful, atleast i picked one up and got one shot kills each shot.

The guns are dead accurate, so its actually supringingly easy to snipe in cod. Aspecially on team based objective modes, as you know where people are coming.

Okay I played a few games of TDM in MW2.
Didn't like it too much, is it just me or has the game got even faster since MW1? It's ridiculous, like Quake 3 on steroids or something, you walk anywhere and you get shot and you don't even know who's shooting you.

Stop whining. You have a little less health than in cod4. Quake 3 is 10x faster than this.

The dual 1887 or whatever, is not able to kill squat at medium range. Its deadly in smaller rooms, but unless you havent played in months (before patch) the range is fine. You people are exagerating. If he cleared a room, you played with a bunch of noobs. The 1887's are not that great, ive tested them quite a lot, there are plenty of secondary weapons that are just as good if not better.

Dual Magnums, Desert Eagles are amazing. 2 shots will kills in the chest, range is good also. All the machinepistols are very good counters. Just point towards the head and spray. In CQC that is all you need. And its just as good as the dual shottys.

The 1887 are only 1 bullet per. The rangers (lvl 44) are 2 shots per gun, but you can only fire 1 barrell at the time (But with little delay). The automatic shotgun which is first unlock is just as good. So are the more powerful modern single shot shottys aswell.

The weapon balance is just fine. I just did 1-44 after prestige in like 10 hours, 2.01 k\d, being far from sober and not doing any camping or spawn killing.. The game is however not very noob friendly, and if you run in the open and make yourself volnerable, you will get dropped very quickly.

All the killstreaks can be countered. (IF your annoyed by KillStreaks, setup a "invisible" class with anti vechile weapon). You can also use perk setup that makes you invisble for turrets, uavs, airsupports heatbeatsensers, thermals etc.

As far as shooting through walls: powerful weapons can shoot through thin walls. They cannot shot through concrete. Do note that often buildings have broken roofs, and windows (you can shot a missle through the window).

As far as commando (increased knife range) goes, lightweight + smg combo will let you dodge at close quarters.

Aug hbar is insane. I dont like it because LMG's are so heavy and i like running, but Aug Hbar +extended mags + stopping power + steady aim, is one of the best guns in game.

Try the Intervention with Stopping Power. FMJ will make pretty much any upper body shot a one shot kill -- but you don't need that.

Btw, when someone kills you look at the kill cam, it tells you their perks + look at the gun.

PS3 Folks,

I received this XMB message that says if I forward said message originated from Infinity Ward to all my friends, I'll get a free MW2 DLC. This is a hoax right ?

Of course ;)

I've had a ton of such chain messages ever since the copy/paste feature was implemented (FW 3.00?). Like if I forward to 20 friends I'll get $20 on PSN, or Infinity Ward will make a terrorist zombies mode if 100,000 people forward the message.

Even in maps like Bog or Backlot, I don't remember the snipers to be such a problem, if you knew which areas to avoid.

On other maps like Overgrown I used to actually have great fun sneaking behind enemy lines in TDM games and taking out enemy snipers with a silenced M13 and UAV jammer.

in MW2 if I walk out anywhere and i'm dead in 10 seconds, if I run around like a maniac I get shot, if I try sneaking I still get shot. Even CS is less intense than this.

The gameplay has definitely changed from MW1

And Ostepop I think you belong more with the likes of zzirgrizz, than with us mere mortals

curious here, why do you guys use extended mags instead of scavenger? it gives u also extra ammo and u can resuply from dead bodys. It helps a lot in my case for non stop claymore spam combo.

The main advantage of extended mags is that it doubles your magazine capacity, letting you kill more people without reloading.

I can usually clear a room as long as i dont run out of ammo, reducing the chance of having to reload increases my kill chances by a lot. In addition, some guns the in the are severely gimped by low magazine capacity.

The SCAR for example is a excellent gun, but i cant really use it without extended. 20 shots just isnt enough if you are planning to be offensive in team match modes. With the extented mags its allmost like having a Mini-LMG that is dead accurate and very powerful, with very quick reload time.

UMP is super sweet with extended mags. Uzi also. Alot of the machinepistols are aspecially nice after extended mags. The high rpm and good ammo capacity makes em perfect weapons for CQC. Just pray and spray and it gets the job done. They are very easy to fire accurately at full auto, just aim for the direction of their head and fire away. Recoil will take care of rest.

Further, a big problem for most decent players is ammo capacity for the full auto rifles s and smg's. This lets you double up without using scavenger.

I recently started screwing around with mp again, and yesterday I focused exclusively on the Barret .50 cal sniper. It does seem to me that getting one shot kills is somewhat inconsistent. Sometimes, I shoot a dude who is running right at me and he doesn't go down. Other times, I can get osks with ease. It might just be the guys I'm osking are already wounded. I'm using stopping power pro too.

So far, my favorite Barret config is ACOG scope, stopping power, and sleight of hand. The ACOG scope isn't as accurate at range, but it makes the Barret more like a badass semi auto assault rifle, which I find easier to aim.

I'm also gonna try the hbar LMG too.

ACOG is going to be a major issue with any sniping rifle as you are essentially no-scoping. The rifles become accurate when you look through the scope + hold your breath. You cannot hold your breath with the ACOG.

I don't usually snipe much but I got the Intervention + FMJ last night. Steady Aim + Stopping Power is one shot kill to the upper body. Give it a try. Trick: At close range scope with the enemy in the center of your screen and IMMEDIATELY fire. Just hit zoom and fire almost at the same time.

If you want a close range accurate gun go FAMAS+Stopping power. 3 round burst, head shots are 1 burst, 2 bursts to chest takes an enemy down. My favorite config--and you aren't neutered like the Barret ACOG.

You will do good to play with some friends NRP :p So stop ignoring my invites. And my KDR has risen a lot (from sub 1:1 the first 2 weeks I got to the game to almost 1.5 now). I could use someone who could offer some cover and teamwork :D

Is anybody still playing spec ops (edit: on 360)? Without a mile-long friend list, this mode is completely useless to me (and many others, I'd imagine). I really can't believe that they could'nt find a way to include matchmaking. Boo.
Anyway, if anybody still has any stars left to get, my gamertag is Dr.Meaty.
