360 gaining momentum in japan?

Blue Dragon is only going to do so much, as I stated earlier, but if you add in VF5, Lost Oddysee, Eternal Sonata, and possibly MGS4, with a $199 core system, they might be able to get sales up to a consistent 10k/week level. This would put the X360 userbase at 3 million or so long term, which is a good start for next generation.

Most likely MGS4 won't see the light of day earlier than a year after PS3-version. Sega won't even bother to release VF5 half a year later there.

PS3 is outselling 360 5:1 with no games. It´s really bad for Microsoft.

MS is selling more now than they did in the 2nd week after launch, as soon as the core pack got introduced sales spiked, and you see the major spike whn BD released:

10/15/2006 | 1,743
10/22/2006 | 1,287
10/29/2006 | 1,565
11/5/2006 | 6,580
11/12/2006 | 3,864
11/19/2006 | 4,050
11/26/2006 | 7,007
12/3/2006 | 4,053
12/10/2006 | 35,500
12/17/2006 | 17,000

I certainly don't have any hopes for microsoft in Japan, if Hironobu Sakaguchi/Toriyama Akira combo could only manage 80k units of BD and measer spike in sale for 360, then I don't know what will. Blue Dragon is bigger title than any of the 360 titles coming out next year..even bigger than Lost Oddysey.
Plus, I think Japan is moving away from home console to portable, not just hardware sales but in terms of software sales also. MS might not even bother to release next xbox in Japan.

I think there are much more exciting battles going on in japan than our good old ms vs sony fight....handhelds vs home consoles, wii vs ps3, declining gaming market vs attempts at revitalization are all excitilook interesting ones.

What makes you say that? LO looks stellar.

80k units sold in how much amount of time?

I am not saying LO is bad title..in fact, LO could be lot better title than BD. It was just that duo's last title was Chrono Trigger, which was one of most popular RPG ever to come out in Japanese market...that fact alone makes BD bigger title in terms of anticipation factor. Yet 360 failed to outsell PS3(supply limited and has no games) even with the release of BD...
If you want to sell console in Japan, it takes more than steller hardware and good software...it seems like it has to be Japanese also.

MS has definately picked up considerable momentum in Japan since the introduction of the core pack, and launch of BD:

10/29/2006 | 1,565
11/5/2006 | 6,580 <--- Core pack
11/12/2006 | 3,864
11/19/2006 | 4,050
11/26/2006 | 7,007
12/3/2006 | 4,053
12/10/2006 | 35,500 <-- Blue Dragon
12/17/2006 | 17,000
12/24/2006 | 17,213
12/31/2006 | 16,909

264,702 LTD.

BD bundled Core pack is only $250 in Japan.

Imagine if they released that in the US. It would be flying off the shelves. I wonder how much money MS loses on each unit.

Not sure if this is exactly Japan related, but it seems like Capcom is enjoying better than expected sales on 360 so far, with Dead Rising reaching 1M sales by year end, when forecasts only expected 880,000 by March 2007.

Probably not much and if they were smart... they would do that (with other game) in EU soon too (and US)

they would take that market share that they've been missing out on from the people that are more price sensitive to these "New Gen" pricing schemes.

It's a price drop without actually dropping the price. I expect to see more of this before an actual price drop (which I think is a great idea since the competition (Sony) is going to need to keep their price up until costs come down)

They already have, it's virtually impossible to buy a 360 and not have it bundled with some type of free game, 1600 free pts, and 3months of XBLive. At least in Canada that's the case. Bestbuy, Walmart, Futureshop, all the major retailers have these bundles at the regular price of $499.
