Call of Duty: Ghost (Consoles)

Doesn't look great for a next-gen title, but there is more of a difference between current-gen and next-gen than I originally thought. The PS3 version looks like crap by comparison.

Some screens from the youtube video:

Great comparison photos. :)

Regardless... it doesn't look great for next-gen by any measure. A lot of next-gen games look quite a bit better than Ghosts on PS3... so it's not much of an achievement to say it looks "a bit better than that trash"...

There's a rumous they even tried to use tesselation on some scenes.
the pc version has no in game tessellation options but the config file has the following
seta r_tessellation "1_Near"
seta r_tessellationCutoffDistanceBase "960"
seta r_tessellationCutoffFalloffBase "320"

Thanks. :) The screens I took were from the YT video. There's higher quality versions on their site apparently, and there's a PC vs PS4 comparison too.

The first video shows a comparison between the PS3 and PS4 version of the game, but the limited footage doesn't let you discern much. The second video allows for a better comparison, especially the lighting engine, which is completely different. The colours are more subdued in the PS3 version and they look sorta muted in comparison.

It might be the compression of the video, but it doesn't make justice to a 1080p signal in some cases.

It holds up pretty well against the PC. Obviously the PC will, on the right rigs, have a resolution advantage.

Its more of an AA advantage in this case considering both are running at 1080p. Its interesting to note how big the aliasing difference is in that comparison though given they are both at the same resolution. NV's TXAA is doing an incredible job!

I love TXAA and in BLOPS2 it was really nice imo!
But lots of people don't like it due to some inherent blur...but I like a jaggie-free IQ.

Obviously, there's a major jump from current-gen to the PS4/PC version. But it's still not an exceptional-looking game overall, and it's still not doing anything near what Battlefield 4 is doing in terms of rendering. Not even close. That's why I'm surprised to hear that the PS4 version is reported to be suffering occasional framerate issues. Granted, these might be only occasional drops to 50 or 40fps in certain circumstances.

One thing I've noticed in all the PS4 multiplayer footage I've seen thus far is a distinct lack of ambient occlusion. The ambient occlusion is present in the single player, but not the multiplayer (sign of different developers for these two modes). Even the little bit of Xbox One footage of the game out there has ambient occlusion.

Here's PS4 footage of the same map (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Re1E2RpCjTU), and the ambient occlusion is a notable omission. Would be sad to see an effect like this cut out for presumably the sake of stabilizing framerate in multiplayer, as I really like the effect, and it adds a lot of needed depth to the image.

Tried having fun with this game........the game is boring :-/

BTW, is the player count upped for next gen versions? Cos that is one of the biggest gripes right now, followed by the shit Squad points system.

I really doubt that there's that much dynamic lighting going on in a 60fps game, so I'd expect absolutely no bounce lighting at all. It's probably more about a higher density of environment probes, better lightmap quality, better shadow quality, higher internal color precision and so on...

Also, next gen has HDR tonemapping in MP. Current gen doesn't.

That was... Unexpected. I pre-ordered the game mostly because of the 3D support and I have been like 6 years without playing a CoD game. I wish the wait has been worth it and I hope it is a fun game for me.

I thought the single player was really well done missions were a bit on the short side and I dont like the way it forced you to play at a certain pace, but it was enjoyable overall.

Well, the campaign started special, like i mentioned earlier,, but went down the mundane COD way afterwards. I am yet to complete it, but thw chopper mission made me stop, where wg have to destroy this factory or something :-/ ! The game does present some cool ideas in sp,i guess you had a better visual experience on pc and that helped.

As for MP, nah, i am not alone, the game is boring. The maps are huge , too huge for 6vs6, and u have to unlock everything using Squad points. Now, u get only 2 squad points for each level -up and a decent gun costs 8-10 squad points. That equates to 4-5 level ups just to get a new gun, the accessories are another grind.

Now, u can earn squad points by completing field objectives too, but those field orders are completely contrary to your game :???:! I am lpaying Domination and the game won't reward me for capturing or defending points , no sireee, it asks me kill 3 peple while jumping  to get extra squad points !!

Similarly, u can also earn squad points by completing operations, which are special mini missions IW sets every two weeks. Right now the very first mission is to run 5 miles using the Marathon perk. Well, lets do it: but the fact is that Marathon itself costs 8 squad points to unlock  ! And thats how it goes..........

So, all I am earning as a dedicated player is 2 squad points per level up in a 6vs6 game which makes sure my level ups happen in long times.

OTOH, with 12vs12 in. BF4, i am levelling up super fast and rewards are rolling like electricity ! I have already found favourite guns, getting accessories almost every match and the game makes sure I earn lots of points even if I find a remote way of contributing to the objective ! Also, DICE has made sure tha smaller match types have smaller maps for fast action while larger match types have huge maps. IW thought its just better nto to work and throw the same maps in every mode, leading to empty TDMs and Kill Confimreds. The pace is very slow in this COD.

If the next gen versions have higher player counts leading to fun-ner matches, then it might feel better as stuff starts flowing, but right now its better to go for BF4 , even if u lpay only Dom, or stick with BO2 or MW3 if u hate BF.

First review of CoD Ghost by Polygon:

"The two versions look nearly identical. Viewing the Xbox One release next to the PS4 , I had difficulty telling them apart. It's possible that the PS4 version looked somewhat sharper, but that may have just been my imagination after confirming the hard resolution difference. The next-gen releases of Call of Duty: Ghosts are so close together that gun to my head, I'd have no confidence in being able to discern which version was which — at least, while the two are standing still.

The Xbox One release's framerate was far more noticeable. As mentioned in the initial review, Call of Duty: Ghosts suffers from consistent framerate drops on the PS4, especially during multiplayer when action got especially hectic. The Xbox One version suffered no such drops, maintaining a steady 60 frames per second throughout.

For a multiplayer shooter, framerate consistency is paramount. Given its relative visual parity with the PS4 release, Call of Duty: Ghosts is a more playable, slightly superior (albeit disappointing) game on Xbox One."

Bottom Line:

Xbox One Score: 7.0

PS4 Score 6.5

From IGN:

When comparing the PS4 and Xbox One versions side-by-side, there’s little to no variation in textures and effects, but there is a discernible difference in resolution. While both are displayed at 1080p, the Xbox One version upscales the game from 720p resolution. In contrast, the PS4 version runs natively at 1080p, which makes character models, weapons, and environments look noticeably sharper and more detailed. The difference is especially apparent on larger-sized TVs, where pixel density weighs more heavily in picture quality.

Score: 8.8

You're royally f*@&$ed, Al. You can build a shelter as big as you want, but this pointless fanboy war is about to go NUCLEAR.
