Xbox Series X [XBSX] [Release November 10 2020]

It's been suggested in a few places that background download only works in Energy Saver mode when downloading game and system updates i.e full downloads don't work. Not sure whether people are simply guessing here or whether it's true. It's a bit more difficult to explicity test so I'll just have to keep an eye out on my update queue to see if things are piling up or not.

Maybe Microsoft rehired Peter Molyneux and put him charge of firmware. This feels like a disparity between claim and delivery that only Peter Molyneux could produce.

in what ? None of the consoles have it , I don't really see any modems with it. Motherboards are still 1GB from what I can see.

Higher end gaming (asrock) mainboards since atleast 2018. Asrocks z370 came with 10g and 1g port at around that time.

Today there are atx, i-atx gaming mainboards with 10G ethernet if you want.
I recommend a pci-e ethernet slot in though, much cheaper, i have the asus xg-c100 10gb, it was just over 100usd.

10G might not be common in consumer hardware, but it sure is available at quite acceptable prices. I have a 10gb LAN (alot of streaming/nas), it has it uses. Backups have never been this fast for me.
You dont need a 10g router/internet, a 10g switch will do for LAN work.

2.5gb is also quite common in gaming boards these days.

Edit: you can go cheaper if you want, TP link has 10g pci-e cards amongst others below 80/90 usd.

For mainboards they probably list 10g variants in this overview

Network speeds are rated in Gb/s (i.e., Gigabits per second), not GB/s (Gigabytes per second). There's an 8x difference between the metrics, so please don't be sloppy.
Sometimes more. The raw number of bits includes individual bytes of data but also often control commands and error correction and data packet overheads of the networking protocol. Gb/s tends to be used to refer to the raw performance of the bus connection, GB/s tends to be used to give people an idea of the deliverable throughput of your actual data.

As you say, there is almost an order a magnitude of difference.

We sell fiber "modems" its a router with SFP+ and it supports 10G. It actually does supports 10G throughput also (minus protocol overheads).
An ISP actually started pushing them out, to deliver 10G FTTH.
10G NICs, NAS, Switches etc has been in available for a while for the consumer market, its still pricey, but not out of range pricey for the "connoisseur".

Hmm I am thinking this year or next year might be the time for kinect to return in some form. 3 camera set up with its own soc. Hmm what do you guys and gals think?

Doubtful, IMO.

While all of these are unlikely at the moment, I'd put them in this order in terms of probability that XBS-X will get a new hardware accessory.
  • VR
  • AR
  • Motion controls unrelated to VR or AR.
    • Small chance of a kinect motion control and positioning assist camera be included to assist with VR or AR if either of those come to Xbox Series consoles.
That said. I'd currently say there's less than a 10% chance for VR and less than a 1% chance for Kinect. VR only becomes a real possibility (say greater than 50%) if Sony's PSVR 2 leads to really high sales of VR titles. OTOH - if PSVR 2 performs similarly to PSVR then the chances of VR coming to XBS consoles probably drops to 0%.

SB

just a BC for kinect would be wonderful. THere's so many awesome kinect games thats simply an instant fun

I wouldn't think of it as kinect as it was but kinect evolved. MS has VR stuff in development along with hololens and Kinect plays a big part in both of those developments but for the xbox it be a different reason for existing

I think you're missing his orangpelupa's point. He doesn't want to wait for what Microsoft has in development and buy something in the future, he wants to play Kinect games already out there.

I don't know if there is a technical reason why Kinect could not be supported on Xbox Series.

Hasn't the "gimmick" interface corner been completely taken by a much stronger contender called VR?

I am "thinking" more echo / facebook portal competitor plus live streaming from the console and teams family calling vs kinect sports. I am also "thinking" a price point of roughly $100
