Xbox Live Fall Update 2010 *rename*

Oh... maybe I have a shoddy memory, but it looks like the avatar + accessory now have shadowing in the dashboard. :p At least, I only just noticed one of the accessories casting one on my character plus his own head shadow.

Current NXE avatars cast shadows. They are ok, kind of blocky up close.

The Preview legalese now matches the Beta legalese so those who wanted self-aggrandizing, you can now take comfort...

Personally I think it's a crock of shit that the "press" was able to get into the same preview we got in and then still blab to the whole world & we're not allowed. Wouldn't be so bad if the fact that most people in the program can't even send feedback to Microsoft on their own Connect.Microsoft.com site. We're relegated to only posting in the private discussion forums on Xbox.com.

This was essentially my point with the difference between a preview and a beta; I would not expect to be allowed to offer connect.msft...feedback during a preview. Having said that I have more than a short list of issues/problems/suggestions that I hope the beta users are noting and MSFT is addressing. One of these days they will spend more than five minutes in their video/media sections...

The first update was good. The 2nd update added lag to the gui. I wonder if I should clear cache. Really strange.

Actually this was the first time Microsoft has not allowed Preview users to post to connect.microsoft.com. I've already posted the very small amount of complaints & bugs on the forums. I won't go into specifics but I will say that I generally like the update & think it's a great refresh to the original NXE. I think it will accomplish what they set out to do: make the dash more appealing & easier to use for the upcoming more family-oriented Kinect audience. I found it interesting they were able to do that without totally alienating what hardcore gamers expect & enjoyed from the previous versions.

Again, I'm not talking about games...and this was not the first-time; do you use connect outside of XBOX?

Yes, I use it for the XNA Framework and XNA Game Studio & have posted bugs & suggestions there with no problems. Also, I just recently joined Microsoft Game Studios' Beta program, but haven't posted anything there yet. BTW, when I said this was the first time, I should have said for myself. The last 2 times I've gotten into the Xbox Dashboard Preview I was allowed to post to Connect with no problems.

Not a problem.

As an aside, I have cancelled all of my Kinect pre-orders along with the device itself. As I mentioned in the games thread I was having difficulty envisioning it working with my soon-to-be setup but I also need to see a deeper Kinect Hub media manipulation demonstration. My hope is that NDA and embargoes are lifted well in advance...which given the closeness of the launch means really, really, soon.

Umm, I cant download any demos? Is this something with preview program or wtf??

I just tried to DL the Castlevania demo like 3 times in the last 12 hours and it wont let me. Simply thinks for a bit when I click DL then goes back to the previous screen.

I cant download any demos.

Go to the actual game panel and download the game "trial". EDIT: The only foolproof way for me has been to go to the full game panel and then going to "extras" (sometimes needing to 'Show All') before being able to download.

Damn, it's pretty buggy at the moment. I've had everything from losing every sub-field (such as Friends, Games Marketplace, etc) on the vertical menu except for My Xbox and Spotlight, to wierd visual errors where everything is zoomed and huge. In all cases, a restart is the only solution.

Oh, and in the UK it seems there's no xbox beta forum to post issues, and no other way to give constructive feedback either.

Still, MS have another few weeks to get it right.

Hmmm, just started the 360 (somewhat drunk at the moment) to find a new update. In the UK at least, LastFM and Skyplayer have also had updates to bring them into line with the new look. Will have a more in depth look when sober.
