Xbox 360 w/ HDMI spotted

If you don't how fast second generation HD DVD drive performs, then how is that an obvious solution?

Replace 2nd, with 3rd, or 4th, or whatever it takes until the HD-DVD drives match the speed of DVD. It's irrelevant.

The point is they will only be able to use a standard HD-DVD when the read speeds have matched 12x DVD which developers have designed their games around. So they will have to wait until that time, whenever it is...

I think i read somewhere that HDDVD or Bluray speed maxes out at 4X. Or was it 6X? Meaning that's as fast as the disc will spin before issues come up. That should provide faster data transfers than 12x DVD.

I just can't remember what the number for HDDVD/Bluray was...

It is pretty irrelevant isn't it, since more than likely a 360 with intergrated HD DVD will probably sell as well as the PSX.

Does anyone have a PSX and a PS3 since they are suppose to be able to link to each other?

lol, was that supposed to be a serious point? Or was just your way of admitting your so-called issue is non-existant?

Whatever the sales of an HD-DVD 360 are, is completely irrelevant to point at hand...

btw: You completely misinterpreted the original point posed by Rockster, and if you read a little more carefully you would have seen Expletive already posted the OBVIOUS answer to your non-existant issue: "They cant build an HDDVD drive into the machine until it reaches DVD performance equal to what theyve got now. "

What does it do to the installed base if they come out with HDMI, after some people have bought the HD-DVD add-on?

Nothing?

Seriously, it's like an extra doo-dad, not a userbase splintering situation.

What happens if they integrate the HD-DVD drive as many suspect?

And then come out with games on HD-DVD, maybe at first as special editions?

Will such a splintering of the installed base bring resentment from those who bought early and were told -- and they parroted -- how HD-DVD wasn't needed for games and HDMI wasn't important unless ICT was turned on?

They wont make games on HDDVD, for the 9 millionth time.

The fact we were having an irrevelant argument and you switching up of your point led to the travesty at hand.

I was skimming to fast and instead of see expletive making a statement, rockstar counterpointing and then expletive re counterpointing, I saw expletive first post and then mistaked expletive 2nd post as a counter post to his first post.

Basically I had a brain fart and thought expletive was arguing with himself and remarked that he missed his own point. LOL

Plus, you went from a very specific statment to a very broad statment to make your point.

"2nd generation HD DVD" does not equal the nth generation HD-DVD with 12X DVD speeds.

Simply, continuing an debate that was magically created by myself about a possible niche product seemed wasteful. I couldn't even bring myself to transition the argument to something more worthwhile. LOL, in otherwords "I gave up".

I can see an Xbox360 with integrated HDDVD (FOR MOVIE PLAYBACK ONLY) once the drive cost falls to peanuts making sense. In a "why not" sort of way. Of course I suppose, once that stage is reached you have uber cheap HDDVD players and the sales impetus is sort of moot.

Basically compare it to the PS2 having DVD playback. Early on it was, kind of nice as cheap DVD playback, and perhaps even drove some sales. Later on as DVD's became ubiquitous it became sort of irrelevant as a sales point.

People will remain hopeful as long as companies like Toshiba keep hinting at it. This is the only link I can find for now (from 9/30) but there have been a few other articles about it.

I only mentioned it as a possibility since it would make much more sense then a third SKU that leaves early adopters out in the cold.

There's been a more recent rumor about the HDMI cable. The rumor has the announcement pegged for tomorrow.

Cables: HDMI cables and prices should follow this hard drive news. Expect a $69.99 price.
